Groups of young folks from Young Life and others prepare for the Westboro invasion.

The crowd starts to get into the mood.

“Go Home!” USA! USA! USA!” and sundry insults were traded back and forth between the crowd and the lady with the quad-signs arrangement.

After about 20 minutes, fully 300 people were surrounding the police barricades set up to keep the two groups apart. The police’s main duty seemed to be keeping various members out of the street to avoid getting hit by passing vehicles.
A large crowd gathered across the street in front of the Cathedral of St. Joseph because there was no more room on the side of the street where Westboro was set up.
Several couples on their way to evening mass wondered who the “crazy people were and why they’re like that?”

The president was not spared. Who does the Westboro graphics?

Interesting sign from one of the counter-protesters. Fight hate with lobster abstinence!

These two locals were well-prepared with appropriate signage.

Mary from Moundsville and her husband, John, had a milder message–which reflected the overall tone of the counter-protesters.
Post will be updated with more pix and captions later on Sunday.
