Video is the Engine of Internet Growth

CONTINUED GROWTH COMES AT TIME OF PROPOSED INTERNET REGULATIONS

YouTube is more than just a place to see videos of cats being shot out of cannons and squirrels sling-shotted across yards. It’s one of the engines of the Internet’s explosive growth.

And it’s going to continue, according to the following story.

From Video spurs explosion of Internet traffic:

Internet traffic will have increased six fold by 2012 in a five-year period as more users view and post videos online, delegates at an Internet forum heard on Wednesday.

From 2007 to 2012, “traffic will increase sixfold,” Robert Pepper, a vice president of Cisco, told the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Increased traffic on the Internet can’t be bad. It comes at a time when freedom of speech is under assault, both in public life and on the Internet.

The Obama administration has proposed more Internet regulations in its first year than any other. Hopefully, the increased traffic will result in more voices being raised against those regulations and the increased attacks against Internet free speech.
