Steve Schimdt: The Man with the Toxic Touch
From Schmidt calls Palin claims ‘total fiction’:
WASHINGTON (CNN) – John McCain’s former presidential campaign manager Steve Schmidt is the latest McCain adviser to cry foul over accusations Sarah Palin has penned in her yet to be released memoir “Going Rogue.”
Excerpts obtained by The Huffington Post characterize Schmidt in an unfavorable light, particularly in reference to the prank phone call Palin received from someone pretending to be French President Nicolas Sarkozy. “Right away, the phones started ringing,” Palin writes. “One of the first calls was Schmidt, and the force of his screaming blew my hair back. ‘How can anyone be so stupid?! Why would the president of France call a vice presidential candidate a few days out?!’”
Expect more of the same from uber-weenie Schmidt, who has mostly spoken to reporters as a “senior campaign adviser for McCain” or words to that effect. What else is the guy to do?
He was responsible for an inept campaign–the only ‘bounce’ it received was after Palin was named to the ticket–and started sniping in the press before all the ballots were counted on Election Day.
We’re tempted to label him a loser, but that doesn’t fully describe his campaign record. Schmidt’s campaign won-loss total is mainly one of losses with a few wins (Arnold Schwarzenegger) thrown in. It’s a tip-off that both the New York Times and TIME think he’s just the ticket–for Republicans. The McCain effort won’t add any shine to his already lackluster resume.
Many conservatives will be watching to see where Schmidt lands for Election 2012–and they will not be voting for any campaign with his toxic touch.
