Ft. Hood Oxymoron of the Day: Army Intelligence

FT. HOOD SHOOTER TRIED CONTACTING AL-QAEDA

From Officials: U.S. Aware of Hasan Efforts to Contact al Qaeda

U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.

Joe Lieberman is calling for investigations.

On Sunday, Senator Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) called for an investigation into whether the Army missed signs as to whether Hasan was an Islamic extremist.

“If Hasan was showing signs, saying to people that he had become an Islamist extremist, the U.S. Army has to have a zero tolerance,” Lieberman told Fox News Sunday.

“IF”?

Army Intelligence is still aware of those Al-Qaeda contacts after Hasan gunned down 41 people at Ft. Hood. But, in the words of our Dear Leader: “Don’t jump to any conclusions.”

Our first conclusion-jumping exercise?

“Army Intelligence” remains an oxymoron. After the events at Ft. Hood last week, it becomes an even larger one–if that was possible.

UPDATE NOTE: We missed the following sentence upon first reading of the ABC story. “It is not known whether the intelligence agencies informed the Army that one of its officers was seeking to connect with suspected al Qaeda figures, the officials said.”

So, we’re guilty of conclusion-jumping about “Army Intelligence” on this point. However, once upon a time, this writer was in the U.S. Regular Army. So, the general concept still applies.

LBG: This a huge scandal which incurred mass casualties within our military forces., The public needs to know whether the head of Homeland of Security had been informed, and, or the Commander in Chief, President Obama.

UPDATE: “President Obama was as craven as a community college diversity vice-president when he said that no one should jump to conclusions. Everyone did, and he lost credibility with people who cannot stand civic piety in the face of the murderous kind.”
