Libertarian Top 50 Sites: June-July 2011
Posted on July 14, 2011
DBKP’s Top 50 list featuring Libertarian sites.
DBKP Reports has released its ratings of the top 50 most popular Libertarian websites on the Internet. Ratings are based on the sites’ 3-month average of Alexa worldwide traffic as ranked on July 13-14, 2011.
The Libertarian list has expanded from the Top 40 to the Top 50 sites this rating.
The Libertarian 50′s top five most popular sites is led by Lew Rockwell, followed by Reason and Ludwig Von Mises Institute. The top five is rounded out by The Daily Paul and the Big Picture.
New sites making their way into the Top 50: Personal Liberty Digest, Gary North, Ron Paul, Daily Bell, Economic Policy Journal, Free Talk Live, Free Domain Radio (and Forums), Cop Block, Free Keene, Big Head Pictures, Humble Libertarian and Frazier Institute.
Like all lists, the Libertarian list covers a lot of ground; our broad definition: all these sites cover topics of interest primarily–but not limited to–Libertarians: individual freedom and liberty, small government, unabashed defense of capitalism and the free market and fiscal restraint.
As with DBKP’s other lists, it’s planned that the Libertarian list will expand in the future to 100 sites as more become known. If your website (or one that you frequent) has been missed, drop a line to: mondoreb@gmail.com.
Those interested in comparing an individual site’s Alexa rankings with those of the March Libertarian ratings, see Libertarian Top 40 Sites: March 2011.
NOTE: These lists tend to be “works in progress” the first 4 or 5 months after they’re started until we’re aware of everyone. Over a year after starting the Conservative 100, it has only been in the last three or four months that everyone who belongs on the list is actually on it. Since this is the first edition of the Libertarian list, expect some of these sites to drop off, a lot of additions, until–in about 5 or 6 months, there will be a fairly credible list which contains everyone who belongs on it.
Additional notes and “sites Missed” follow after the ratings.

MISSED SITES
We’ll list below any qualifying sites we missed and have become aware of. Look for them next time! To qualify for inclusion, a site must be primarily a libertarian site and have a 3-month Alexa average lower than 1,000,000. If the site slips below 1m later, it is still included–unless it stays below 1m for 12 months.

NOTES:
* Several sent in Anti-war.com for inclusion. While being against wars is a frequent position of Libertarians, it is also a position held by Progressives and some Conservatives. While realizing this is a judgment call, we’ll include Anti-War in the Alternate News-Information 100 list next time. [NOTE: After checking, Anti-war.com is already on the Alternate listing.]

Lots of great stuff in that list, thanks!
You’re missing Carpe Diem run by Mark Perry, a consistently libertarian blog. It would be #23 on this list. Also, I have to echo others, how the hell does Ritholtz make this list? You call your entire list into question by including him.
Also, Alexa has never been that popular and has been dying out from what I heard. Compete.com might be a better source of data, they have eff.org way ahead of ritholtz.com.
Surprised not to see Infowars and/or Prison planet. Are they too “radical”? I think not.
Conservative/Libertarian
campaignforliberty.com has recently been transitioning to campaignforliberty.org.
How does http://www.cobdencentre.org rank?
I agree with Dave. Why are Infowars.com and Prisonplanet.com not on that list? Infowars.com has been gaining tremdous ground over the last yr. It’s the #1 alternative news site in the world, and Alex’s radio show has been gaining new affiliates on a weekly basis.
Alexa is good for knowing where IE users who don’t remove spyware from their PCs visit in between paging VM files and losing at minesweeper.
Are there any alternatives to Alexa? I suppose most of my regular readers have NoScript and would never install the Alexa spyware tool.
The Big Picture? Don’t get me wrong, I read The Big Picture everyday but it is far from a libertarian site. It is more Keynesian from what I have seen, though Ritholtz is against bank bailouts.
http://freepatriot-press.com – current Alexa ranking 5,767,348
Infowars and Prison Planet are both on the Alternate News-Information 100.
Infowars is #1, I believe.
Thanks for your comment
Amazing. While they may cover Libertarian topiocs or issues, none of the sites actually advocates Libertarianism or even has Libertarian in the name.
Most are run by the usual right-wing extremists either as false-front or in some cases denying they’re Libertarian.
[...] extrapolating, but that’s my guess from these rankings of libertarian websites. LRC is of course #1, with the Mises Institute at [...]
I don’t accept the anti-war.com reasoning.
1. It’s run by self-described libertarians
2. Yes, there are people against particular wars on the left and right, depending on who’s in office, but libertarianism is anti-war Per Se.. which is why noone from the left or right started anti-war.com
3. By the reasoning given, why would any of our great economics sites be included? After all, There are market fans on the left and right as well!

Here is another site to consider:

Thanks.
You missed economicpolicyjournal.com
Anti-war.com is listed in the progressive/liberal top sites while it should ONLY be in the alternative top media sites. UNLESS you add it to the top libertarian sites (perhaps conservative ones too as you mentioned).
Thanks,
I forgot to add that Anti-war.com, as another comenter said, is by mostly self-described libertarians. Why on not put in with the top libertarian site and take it off the liberal/progressive site?
They say in their about section
“The founders of Antiwar.com were active in the Libertarian Party during the 1970s; in 1983, we founded the Libertarian Republican Organizing Committee to work as a libertarian caucus within the GOP. Today, we are seeking to challenge the traditional politics of “Left” and “Right.”"
They go on
“The totalitarian liberals and social democrats of the West have unilaterally and arrogantly abolished national sovereignty and openly seek to overthrow all who would oppose their bid for global hegemony.”
Don’t worry FP, I’ll still follow ya. lol
One thought on some terminology, though; The term “alternative” media is nothing more than a msm(mind stupifying media) attempt to discredit other news sources. Just like the “black” market is to the Free market or “gun” violence suggests that death by Estwing hammer is NOT violent.
To continue using msm verbiage is to support them.

I didn’t see the LIbertarian Party’s web site, LP.org, on the list. I’m curious where they would stand.
Thanks for putting this list together – could you please fix the name of my show please? It’s Freedomain Radio.
Please consider adding my libertarian site to the commentary and/or libertarian sections. Thank you.

What a fraud.
This is ridiculous-most of these are conservative or sites dealing with Libertarian causes. The tip-off is not one of them uses Libertarian in the name. Several even go out of their way to say they’re NOT libertarian.
I suggest start with (non-partisan) http://www.Libertarian-International.org or the many Libertarian Party or movement sites.
