The Drug Clock has been up at the original DBKP site at Blogger, almost from the very first day we started. Before we moved it–at an undetermined future date–we decided to feature the popular Drug War Clock in a post. The clock keeps track of the approximately $600 per second spending racked up on the War on Drugs. // DrugSense Drug War Clock Money Spent on the War on Drugs This Year. Just like burning money.
Eliminate odors from fabrics while spreading a light fresh scent. Whether it’s car, pet, pot, or general home odors, Febreze Fabric Refresher has a great solution. The Laredo Police Department received an anonymous tip Thursday regarding suspicious activity at a residence near the area of Saunders and Interstate 35. After police set up surveillance it was determined there was enough cause to search the house. According to Officer Jose E. Baeza, police then raided the residence and found 90 bundles of marijuana wrapped in plastic along with several bottles of Febreze. Four men were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and engaging in organized criminal activity. Police said the home was a “stash” house located in a residential area. Three heavily loaded police trucks with an armed escort moved the estimated 1 ton of pot with a street value of $803,000 along with “several” bottles of the fabric freshener and household odor remover Febreze. Produced by Proctor and Gamble, Febreze was first introduced into test markets in 1996. The product’s active ingredient, cyclodextrin, is a type of modified starch having a shape similar to a donut. The molecule binds or entraps various hydrophobic compounds within the donut shape.[2] In [...]

Corrupt Cops, This Week in Drug History, Reforms, News, More! Our January-February Special Edition of the “Failed War on Drugs” is a special combo edition that covers all that we’ve received in the last two months. It takes a look at all aspects of the second longest-running war in U.S. history. Only the “War on Poverty” is older. 1 It’s Safer to Be a Cop Than a Farmer Police deaths in the line of duty were up last year, and so was the number of cops killed by gunfire. But only handful died. enforcing the drug laws, and policing remains safer than a good number of other professions. 2 This Week’s Corrupt Cops The Detroit drug squad is under investigation, a Pennsylvania police chief is accused of stealing money from drug busts, and a Wisconsin prison has a problem with pill-stealing guards. 3 Seeing Someone Smoke a Joint Outside is not Grounds for Police to Enter Home The California Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled last Friday that police cannot enter a home without a search warrant just because they see someone smoking marijuana inside. Police may enter a home to preserve evidence of a crime, the court held, [...]

Time for the December Edition of the Failed War on Drugs. Resources and links illustrating the futility of trying to legislate people’s chemical preferences. And we have a Christmas stocking full of stories, links and ONE job opportunity for a student anti-Drug Warrior! First, a look at the latest Zogby Poll concerning drug use and Americans. December 5, 2007 99% of Americans Wouldn’t Use Hard Drugs If They Were Legalized Zogby Poll Suggests Prohibition Doesn’t Reduce Use Washington, DC — Marking the 74th anniversary of the repeal of national Alcohol Prohibition, StoptheDrugWar.org today released polling results suggesting that drug prohibition’s main supporting argument may be simply wrong. Drug policy reformers point to a wide range of demonstrated social harms created by the drug laws — crime and violence, spread of infectious diseases, official corruption, easy funding for terrorist groups, to name a few — while prohibitionists argue that use and addiction would explode if drugs were legalized. But is the prohibitionist assumption well-founded? Zogby polling data released today asked 1,028 likely voters, “If hard drugs such as heroin or cocaine were legalized, would you be likely to use them?” Ninety-ninety percent of respondents answered, “No.” Only 0.6 percent said “Yes.” [...]
