Time’s Greatest Mistakes of the Past Three Years Originally, this was to be a story on “Time magazine’s greatest errors”. After a little cursory research, it was determined that a book would have to be written to cover that subject. Part of the reason is Time’s been around since 1923. But a larger part of the problem can be traced to the moment when Time’s management made the decision that liberal political shilling–whether for global warming, taxes, the latest Democrat “next big thing”–would be an acceptable substitute for objective news reporting. So the subject was limited to the last couple of years, a more manageable topic. This is by no means an exhaustive or comprehensive list on the subject. It’s just a look at a few of Time’s mistakes of the last three years. Most of the mistakes, retractions and errors stem from Time’s substitution of a liberal opinion for actual news. NOVEMBER 2007: FISA Falsehoods by Joe Klein Joe Klein tells outright falsehoods–we called them “lies” when I was a kid–about the FISA bill and misleads his readers about what the bill contains. We don’t often agree with Glenn Greenwald, but he does a pretty good job of calling [...]

Gaining knowledge is a circuitous thing. How many times have readers went looking for a particular nugget of knowledge on the Internet, only to find something completely different from what was searched for originally? Looking for bits and pieces from The Posthumous Luger‘s improbable engineering projects, another completely different post there was discovered. The title proved irresistible: “The Worst Writer in America“. So, we’ll save the engineering piece for another day. We don’t pretend to know who the “Worst Writer in America” is, but we were willing to take a look at TPL’s nomination. In the TPL’s opinion, the title of “WWiA” goes to Mark Morford, of the San Francisco Chronicle. Now, as can be expected from its location, the Chronicle is reliably left and Morford is apparently the Chronicle’s “fun and crazy guy”–if “fun and crazy guys” were eternally pissed-off about most things American. Here’s TPL’s take: Mark Morford of the San Francisco Chronicle. I simply can not find a more loathsome combination of content and writing style in a mainstream American publication. Each column begins with a 12-comma rant of hatred, followed by a few hundred words of justification, then ends with an “it’s all tripe, anyway” signoff [...]
