Advice to the GOP Candidates: Never Apologize
The Granite Sentry
If only conservatives–and the GOP candidates who hope to represent them–could contain themselves. No, it’s not what they actually do that’s the problem: it’s conservatives’ insistent urge to apologize for it–whatever “it” turns out to be. The Granite Sentry has the details–including Rick Santorum, Foster Friess, the Left, aspirin and the bad choices of women–which he offers with no apologies.

Never Apologize
Sorry, but it’s back to the subject of apologies.
It comes up because a supporter (financial and otherwise) of GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum was on the air last week with a silly old line in relation to the Left’s mock concern with “contraception.”
Appearing on Andrea Mitchell’s MSNBC show specializing in minute and hypercritical vivisection of conservative points of view, Foster Friess chuckled that women used to use aspirin for birth control — held between the knees.
Shocked silence from Leftist womanhood.
Followed by howls of rage. How dare he A.) crack wise on such a sacred subject, and B.) suggest that there is some connection between a woman’s behavior and subsequent good and bad things cropping up in her life?
Haven’t we established that a woman’s behavior — choice of clothing, hours of recreation, consumption of alcohol, selection of bedmates — exists in a magical no-fault zone in which laws of causality are trumped by her inalienable right to self-empowerment?
So of course Friess was duly sent out to apologize:
“I can understand how I confused people with the way I worded the joke and their taking offense is very understandable. To all those who took my joke as modern day approach I deeply apologize and seek your forgiveness. My wife constantly tells me I need new material—she understood the joke but didn’t like it anyway—so I will keep that old one in the past where it belongs.”
Every time somebody on the Right knuckles under this way to the humorless Left it harms our ability to speak freely about what is wrong with the country — presumably a key element of what we’re trying to do. It just adds to the laughable notion that the Left is the only rightful arbiter of what is right and wrong in America.

Santorum deserves credit for standing firm on his comments over the weekend about President Obama’s theological approach to environmentalism, and for grinning but not giving an inch through a withering blast of astonishment from CBS newsman Bob Schieffer on the subject of prenatal testing.
His upright refusal to waffle has left Santorum pretty much in control of the attack headlines.
Republicans at every level can earn their way back onto the front pages by simply crossing the Left’s imaginary line of acceptability and taking an aspirin…
…and then holding it tightly between their lips until the urge to apologize passes.
