SPECULATION! Report: January 30, 2012

What’s today’s speculation? Sarah Palin offers GOP voters some 20-year-old advice from 1992; Internet writers and readers will have to now deal with SOPA’s bigger, more evil twin: ACTA; Where’s the REAL reporting on Obama?; Question of the Day; Allen West and Alienation; Bob Livingston has some dire 2012 predictions; Caroline Kennedy talks about My Uncle Teddy–Plus MUCH More!

=====================================================

WHO’S HER RESEARCHER? Sarah Palin resurrected some loser advice from 1992′s election: Sarah: ‘Annoy A Liberal. Vote Newt’. Back in the 1992 election, it was President George H.W. Bush against unknown Billy Boy Clinton. Thousands of bumper stickers were distributed which urged “Annoy the Media: Vote Bush!” That didn’t work out so well for Republicans.

Anyway, when the best reason the GOP has for supporting its candidate boils down to annoying someone else, they’re pretty much toast. Questions: Who’s doing research for Sarah Palin? Is this the best she has these days? Is this the latest sign that Gingrich will be the nominee and that Obama is a shoo-in? What a depressing set of questions.

THERE GOES THE INTERNET NEIGHBORHOOD: Worse than SOPA? Worse than PIPA? Worse than the other Internet censorship bills in Congress whose names escape me? YES! ACTA is here: Obama Tries to Bypass Congress with Deadly Global Internet Treaty ACTA.

Before the American people were protesting the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect Intellectual Property Act, the president managed to sign an international treaty which would permit foreign companies to demand that ISPs (Internet Service Providers) remove web content in the United States without any legal oversight. Entitled the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), the treaty was signed by Obama on October 1, 2011, but it is currently a subject of discussion because the White House is circulating a petition demanding that senators ratify the treaty.

What’s worse is that the White House has done some maneuvering — characterizing the treaty as an “executive agreement” — thereby bypassing approval by members of Congress.

Those who view Republican “opposition” to Obama as something more akin to pro wrestling than what we were taught in school about how our political system works aren’t very hopeful about getting ACTA stopped. Republicans will posture (“We’re gonna bust you up, Obama!”) and then, after the cameras stop rolling, give the President whatever he wants and go back to back-slapping all of the President’s men.

ACTA will do what the other Internet Censorship bills had hoped to accomplish with one twist: some guy in China can now claim your Internet site practices piracy and–voila!–you’re shut down without due process. So much for free speech. If a site is doing independent news analysis and someone gets upset, no need to worry. Just file an ACTA piracy claim and your worries are over. We’ll be here until that happens.

Surpassing the body of work accumulated by George W. Bush in the field of treading on American freedoms was a tall order, but BHO managed to do it. Thank you, Mr. Obama! MORE: Obama Signs Global Internet Treaty Worse Than SOPA.

NEWT, MITT OBSERVATIONS OF THE DAY: #1: If you’re having trouble beating Mitt Romney in any state other than New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Michigan or Utah, you’re not all that. Are you listening Mr. Gingrich? #2: Blaming your electoral troubles on “Mitt’s minions” or “Mitt’s millions” (pick ‘em!) is a little bit like driving a car that’s on fire and blaming the temperature in the car on a bad thermostat.

ONE DAY, BUT NOT NOW – One of these days the Corporate Media will do some real reporting on Barack Hussein Obama and his shadowy past. But that day is not likely to come before it will make a difference in 2012′s election results. For years, Agent Mulder kept insisting “The truth is out there.” And so it is. The Secret Life of Barack Hussein Obama was a start. But how much further could someone with the resources of the Corporate Media have gotten?

Barack Hussein Obama was a U.S. senator for four years, has been president for three years and what is known about him–outside of the mythology of Dreams from my Father–is practically nil. Doesn’t that intrigue anyone in the Corporate Media? Of course not. For 10 months in 2007-2008, we asked the same question about John Edwards and the answer was the same. If only someone at the National Enquirer would get interested in Mr. Obama…

For those long-suffering folk who have patiently followed the foibles of Barack Obama: The day will come when the Corporate Media will go Full 24/7 on Obama–but that day is sometime after the 2012 election. Until then, Obamaphobes will have to be content with surfing the Internet, searching for bits and pieces to the Obama puzzle.

QUESTION of THE DAY – Once Greek debt is dealt with, which of the PIIGS will be next? One good question deserves another: does it really matter?

IT’S OKAY, HE’S ONE OF OUR GUYS – Another loudmouth speaks up for alienation: Allen West Tells Liberal Leaders To “Get The Hell Out Of The USA”. West is what passes for a conservative “statesman” these days. He’s ex-military, so that means he’s no-nonsense and “tells it like it is.” Of course, if Nancy Pelosi had said something similar–and she has–conservatives would rightly be outraged. And that is the whole point.

It’s no longer about governing the country. it’s no longer about finding solutions to our many problems. It’s all about creating and then stoking outrage on one side or the other. It’s like a couple of junior high kids throwing insults back and forth–and the kids are amateurs compared to Pelosi, Allen West and their ilk. Critical thought these days has degenerated to cheering on someone–anyone–from “our side” who most effectively alienates anybody who is trying to assemble possible answers for the country’s problems. The problems are creations of The D.C. (Den of Corruption) criminal cartel; instead of working together to clean the place up, we’re cheering bozos like West.

No one will ask, “Gee, what has Allen West ever accomplished as a Congressman?” Everyone will know that he told the other side to “Get out of the country!” And for a large majority, that’s all they need to know to pull the lever for the guy next time. “He’s okay–he’s one of our guys!” No wonder the country is spinning down the drain. The other side has Pelosi and Obama; conservatives have West and Gingrich. Are there any questions about why nothing constructive gets done?

PESSIMISTIC OR REALISTIC? Here’s some predictions from Bob Livingston: The Next Few Years. Readers had better buckle up your chin straps before reading them. Here’s a sample:

“Oh, yes, we still have the national symbols of liberty — but in name only. We have widespread corporate corruption as well as the corporate corruption of government and politics.

As with the collapse of all paper money systems in the last days of a fiat regime, everything is for sale with almost no exceptions.

The American people are under final siege, but precious few are aware. Most people are obsessed with their materialism and sports craze.”

Regular readers should be able to immediately identify why I like these predictions! Check out the link–there’s many, many more.

DBKP: From our Emailbox

Received in the email box from Caroline Kennedy and titled “My Uncle Teddy”:

Friend –

Four years ago today, I joined my Uncle Teddy and thousands of excited students at American University to endorse Barack Obama as the next president of the United States.

Barack Obama had stirred something in young people and the young at heart. I saw the passion in my own teenage children, and I heard it from a different generation of people who said they felt like they did when my father ran for president.

That’s about all I could take. Readers who have a higher tolerance may find out more by poking around on barackobama.com, the source of Kennedy’s email. Will My Uncle Teddy join My Pet Goat in the liberal lexicon?

LINKS of INTEREST, LINKS OF STEEL!

* New U.N. draft resolution gives Syria 15 days to comply. Pretend answers to pretend problems by an organization pretending to care.
* HOW CONVENIENT – Pundits fear ‘perfect storm’ despite official optimism. This time, the pundits are right.
* Campaign promise of the day. I remember Operation Moon Base–but never got one. Just like I never got a 007 Attache Case or Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots.

That’s this writer’s SPECULATION! for January 30, 2012, as America continues to its march to the cliff’s edge.
