What’s today’s speculation? Newt Gingrich is this week’s lucky GOP winner in South Carolina; Firefox constantly crashing; Change the Game; Newt Gingrich avoids answering a “despicable” question; limit Republican debates to 88; Rick Santorum–Plus MUCH More!

DBKP Speculation Report

=====================================================

NEWT IS THIS WEEK’S LUCKY WINNER – Another week, another Corporate Media Stooge prattles on–this time it’s a Mr. Toby Hardin from the UK: The fight is on! Newt Gingrich victory in South Carolina means no more Mr Inevitable for Mitt Romney. Newt wins in South Carolina and the media script still has a boring sameness to it: blah blah blah, Mitt Romney front-runner, yada yada yada, Newt anti-Romney. Only in the deep dark recesses of the stooges’ hive mind was Mitt Romney EVER a front-runner. C’mon! The guy won the micro-state of New Hampshire and couldn’t even win a jerry-rigged politico-media event like Iowa, for cryin’ out loud! That’s right, Toby: Mitt was a real steam-roller.

And what does that make this week’s lucky winner, Newt Gingrich? How about a “giant killer!” The Anti-Mitt! Newt-mentum: can you feel it?!? Please, if we must listen to this constant media droning, at least hire some better writers. When they interrogate me, just play hours of the GOP debates and follow that up with the Corporate Media “analysis” and I’ll talk…

ROMNEY’S A ‘LEADER’ LIKE NEWT IS MONOGAMOUS – To reinforce that Mitt Romney was the GOP “leader”, the media outdid itself, producing hundreds of articles based on nothing more than media guys talking to each other and then reporting the results. Newmax put up one such article and it was hard to tell which of their two themes were most noteworthy: Gallup Editor: Romney Lead ‘Collapsing’.

Was it the attempt to convince people that Mitt Romney was somehow the “leader”–this was only about the 1000th attempt, so you gotta give the CorpMedia credit for trying–that should be noted? Romney’s had an eternal struggle to find support outside of his mid-20′s; this is “the leader?” After his win in friendly New Hampshire, one Fox News anchor posed the hilarious question to a guest, “How will anyone be able to stop this Romney momentum?” No, seriously–it was meant as a serious question. But there was one more aspect to the Newsmax article that garnered attention.

The incestuous nature of CorpMed political coverage is highlighted by the first sentence in the story.

“Gallup’s top editor told MSNBC this morning that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s lead in the polls is “collapsing” across the nation, citing polling numbers that have changed dramatically over the last few days.”

So let me get this straight: the guy at Gallup told the guy at MSNBC about Mitt Romney and then someone at Newsmax listened in and wrote a story?!? Sounds pretty authoritative to me! If the guy at Gallup insists that Romney is the national GOP leader, well then, let’s work it into the headline somehow, shall we?

The upshot of all this blather about Romney and his “lead” has been the same from the beginning of the GOP parade: if someone somehow manages to outdo Romney’s steady 27%, then that makes them the instant “leader!” See how it’s played? This week, it’s Newt Gingrich, a man whose flaws are stretched over a frame of flesh and bone. This is where the constant attempts to leader-ize a light-weight like Mitt Romney have gotten the Republicans.

MY MY MY – Am I the only one that has to deal with a never-ceasing series of crashes of Firefox? Seems like they increase whenever a new version hits the ‘Net, but that might only be my newly-configured cynicism at work. The latest series of crashes wiped my browser tabs clean of a host of good SPECULATION! Guess I’ll have to rely on that thing we used to call “memory.”

HBO’s STILL ON TV? – Who knew? Reviewer: HBO’s ‘Game Change’ Relentlessly Mocks ‘Ignoramous’ Palin. Face it: if one is counting on HBO for information of any sort, then that viewer is most likely irretrievably lost to the part of the population that actually thinks. Either that or they’re confined to a hospital bed.

Readers might remember “Game Change” as the effort by two members in good standing of the Corporate Media, John Heilemann and TIMES’s Mark Halperin. The book was greeted with breathlessness by the Establishment. What few wrote about was the amount of information that Heilemann-Halperin kept from readers DURING the 2008 election that showed up only months later in their book as “insider” scoop. Neither writer dared write so much as a sentence about the John Edwards Scandal as it was unfolding. However, a few months later when it didn’t matter–except to pad their bottom line–Game Change was released portraying its narrative as edgy. Here it is in 2012 and life goes on and on and on amongst CorpMedia…

NIGHT OF THE NEWT – Speaking of Corporate Media Stooges, the morning buzz a few days ago among those who still wear the conservative heart on their sleeve was the boffo performance of Newt Gingrich. Seems some cad from CNN asked Gingrich about the allegations of one of his ex-wives. Newt was cheered for counter-punching the questioner (the guy was from CNN, so it wasn’t like it had to be a very skillful counter-attack) for even posing the question. In all of the uproar, the question remains unasked–which may have been the point–”Was what she said true?” Newt has never disputed what his ex-wives have said about his “conduct while married.”

NOW, all good little conservatives/Republicans/whatevers will associate any question about Newt’s sordid character (at least the part about his multiple marriages) with that clown from CNN who asked him that unfair question. Granted, the latest of the endless debates–by this time, I’m sure most observers feel like the kid in the back of the car who keeps wondering, “Are we there yet?”–might not have been the best place to offer a question about Newt’s checkered character, but when would be the best time? Is there ANY time that Mr. Gingrich would have NOT used the word “despicable” as a non-answer?

At any rate, Bill Clinton got it with both barrels–if possible, he should have gotten it with 15 barrels–when the subject of his vile character came up. Why not air Newt’s past? Judging by the reactions of the South Carolina partisans at the debate, it appears that character no longer matters to most of the GOP faithful. Which is fortunate, but only because they’re going to be faced with the prospect of another Obama win 10 months from now.

WAKE ME WHEN THE NEXT DEBATE IS OVER – Surely I’m not the only person stupefied by the endless parade of those media creations featuring those media-created candidates that the media is calling “Republican debates.” They ought to start labeling them like Super Bowls: with Roman numerals. The only problem then might be the number of media people who know Roman numerals above L. Maybe everyone involved should just agree that once the number of GOP debates hits 88, we’ll just call it quits. Seriously, the only people edified by these media monstrosities has been Campaign Obama.–they’re hoping there’s 200 of ‘em.

NICE WEATHER WE’VE BEEN HAVING – In an effort to end on a high note: the winter weather has been usually balmy–ice storms notwithstanding. It seems it will continue until the end of the month, which is a good thing. Of course, the farmers like to see a real winter cold snap “to kill off the bugs.”

DBKP: From our Emailbox

LOOK AT SANTORUM’S ACTIONS, NOT WORDS – In the email box is a letter from the Columbia (S.C.) Christians for Life. It points out that Santorum never sponsored a piece of Personhood legislation in his entire time in Congress or the Senate. Santorum’s defense? Basically, it amounts to “Hey, Washington’s a big place and how’s a (supposed) pro-lifer like me to know about pro-life legislation? Give me a break: I’m only one guy!” Another poseur pierced.

Another interesting email from CCL is titled, “National Right to Life’s long -term lawyer James Bopp, Jr. supporting pro-abort Mitt Romney ( again) !!!” Yeah, for anyone who pays more than a fraction-of-a-second’s attention to the section of the pro-life movement which is fake, that’s not too surprising…

LINKS of INTEREST, LINKS OF STEEL!

* SUCKERS! Confidence in Housing Market Improves. How do you gin up “confidence in the housing market” these days? Not to say that that’s what happened here, but maybe take a sample of people who have no knowledge of either, 1- the housing market; or, 2- their real future job survival prospects.
* QUESTION! – State of the Union: Totalitarian-Style Neighborhood Screenings for Obama Speech?. Did he or didn’t he?
* DANGEROUS! – No More Electoral College! Presidential Winner to be Chosen by Popular Vote Alone! Am I the only one who feels the hand of tyranny around my neck every time some “genius” tells me how giving up one of the safeguards to my freedom is “progress?”

That’s this writer’s SPECULATION! for January 22, 2012, as America continues to its date with destiny.
