War with Iran: Corporate Media Uses Speculation to Beat the War Drums
War with Iran: Coming soon to an Asian landmass near you?
Is War with Iran inevitable? How likely is it? When? Are events taking place which guarantee that the USA and Iran are on a collision course? Much of the media chatter seems to be talking up such a possibility. A look at what some in the media have been “reporting” about a coming War with Iran.
The Stooges at Corporate Media have begun seriously beating the drums for war with Iran–and they are using “speculation” to do it. A quick Google search of the term “War with Iran” returns a number of such speculative pieces, including many from the past week.
Has the War with Iran Already Begun?
A week ago an article with this title appeared in the National Journal. It was subtitled “The evidence of an extensive Western covert program against Tehran, and Iranian retaliation, is now too obvious to ignore.”
Two incidents that occurred on Sunday—Iran’s claim of a shoot-down of a U.S. drone, and an explosion outside the British embassy in Bahrain—may have been unrelated. But they appear to add to growing evidence that an escalating covert war by the West is under way against Iran, and that Tehran is retaliating with greater intensity than ever.
Asked whether the United States, in cooperation with Israel, was now engaged in a covert war against Iran’s nuclear program that may include the Stuxnet virus, the blowing-up of facilities and the assassination or kidnapping of scientists, one recently retired U.S. official privy to up-to-date intelligence would not deny it.
The article goes on to recount a number of items over the last several months and link them together into a whole that supports its thesis. This is what reporters used to do as part of their job. Nowadays, it seems that only pieces doubling as intelligence briefings–unless they are magazine-length pieces about celebrities and their pretend lives–accomplish that.
The NJ story also scored a two-fer: besides quoting the “recently retired U.S. official privy to up-to-date intelligence,” the Journal managed to work in a plug for GOP has-been, Mitt Romney as well.
“It’s safe to say the Israelis are very active,” the official said, adding about U.S. efforts: “Everything that [GOP presidential candidate] Mitt Romney said we should be doing—tough sanctions, covert action and pressuring the international community — are all of the things we are actually doing.” Though the activities are classified, a senior Obama administration official also would not deny that such a program was under way. He indicated that the U.S. was not involved in every action, referring to recent alleged explosions at Isfahan and elsewhere. But, he added: “I wouldn’t assume that everything we do is coordinated.”
The report also mentioned the recent downing of the U.S. unmanned drone which has the Stooges at Corporate Media cabal news channels absolutely captivated. {Iran downs US drone violating eastern airspace: Reports]. The Drone Episode (And no, that’s not the title to the latest Charlie Sheen sitcom pilot.) stories and speculation didn’t take long to quickly escalate by several orders of magnitudes: Iran downs a U.S. drone: Is ‘all-out war’ next?
Of course, the next order of magnitude in speculation is to take any story and add a healthy dose of U.S. partisan politics to the mix. Such stories seem to be the last refuge of the witless–which explains this writer attraction. “Would a Republican President bomb Iran? was one example of the inane speculation masquerading as reporting/analysis. No doubt, the same writer is working on an exciting piece about The Pope and beanies.
Back to Iran.
Those beating the war drums in the USA would do well to remember that a war with Iran also likely means a war with China. In the real world, such a prospect is not as scary as in the media-created world of pretend–where China is the 800-lb. World Gorilla and Iran is its barking pit bull. One recent example was the breathless story of Iran’s “navy” sailing for U.S. waters. The flotilla consisted of three ships. Of course, anything can happen in war–that’s just one motive for not getting involved in one, especially in Asia–which is exactly what the those who weave worldly scheme are counting on.
The National Journal article closed with reaction quotes by various go-to sources, none of which were particularly enlightening. However, they all seemed to focus on the “troublesome” aspect of the escalating “war” between iran, Israel, the U.S. and Great Britain.
One wonders if the article was news–or a sort of predictive programming?

UNRELATED NOTE/MINI-REVIEW: The recent release on DVD of Steven Spielberg’s Super 8 by J.J. Abrams was a looked-for event. The film unexpectedly provided an evening of (almost 100%) wholesome entertainment. The only undercurrent in the film was the predictive programming of seeing the Air Force cordon off a town, evacuate it (under a bogus pretense) and have the AF personnel take the townspeople to a “holding area.” All this supposedly happening in the 1970s.
Which was interesting, if only because many U.S. citizens in the 1970s were still aware that it was illegal for U.S. troops to be operating on U.S. soil in the capacity of law enforcement. The local law enforcement, in the character of the local deputy sheriff, was the good guy, and bravely battled the evil Air Force honcho. After a few decades of such scenarios repeatedly being shown in the popular cinema, one wonders how many youth realize that the military does not automatically operate on U.S. soil in times of crisis?
One guess: not many.
It’s just one less thing planners in The D.C. (Den of Corruption) have to worry about in a time of coming crisis. Wouldn’t do to have the citizenry asking inconvenient questions instead of getting in line to be herded who knows where…
