Guy Hottel FBI UFO Memo: Roswell ‘Proof’? Not Exactly
New Mexico site of numerous UFO crashes in the late 1940's, early 50's? Close encounter in 1964?

April 24, 1964, Socorro, New Mexico UFO Dramatization
Recently we’ve seen news reports linking the recently released 1950 FBI ‘UFO’ Memo to the 1947 Roswell UFO incident. We have another theory, the memo isn’t related to Roswell, there could have been a second UFO-aliens incident in New Mexico which may have occurred in 1950 during the time frame when hundreds of witnesses in Farmington, New Mexico, saw ‘hundreds’ of UFOs for three consecutive days, the incident dubbed the Farmington UFO Armada. (More info later on one of the most amazing mass witnesses UFO sightings in the United States.)
Over at the Daily Mail, the headline, ‘The memo that ‘proves aliens landed at Roswell’… released online by the FBI’. The Daily Mail ‘proof’, FBI agent Guy Hottel’s memo dated March 22, 1950, named New Mexico as the location where ‘flying saucers’ and ‘aliens’ had been recovered. The Daily Mail provided documentation from 1947 of the Roswell incident as further ‘proof’. Unfortunately for the Daily Mail and other news sites who are linking the memo to Roswell, the facts stated in the memo and the documentation don’t match up.
In the memo (posted below), which the Daily Mail posted online, Hottel never specifically mentioned the date or the location in New Mexico. The Daily Mail posted another archived UFO document dated July 8, 1947 as further proof the Hottel memo referred to Roswell. Reading the memo and the document there are distinct differences between Hottel’s descriptions of three UFO spaceships–’circular in shape with raised centers’–versus the 1947 document description which stated ‘one flying disc’, ‘hexagonal in shape’. The flying disc, ‘suspended from a balloon by a cable’.
1950 FBI UFO Memo
1947 ‘Roswell’ document
Based on the different accounts we’re speculating there were two separate incidents of UFO spaceships with aliens recovered by the military in New Mexico within 3 years: 1947-1950.
On March 17, 1950, an astounding news report from the Farmington Daily Times, HUGE ‘SAUCER’ ARMADA JOLTS FARMINGTON. (The original article has been copied and posted to numerous websites.)
[Excerpt]
Crafts Seen By Hundreds [sic] Speed Estimated at 1000 MPH, Altitude 20,000 feet For the third consecutive day flying saucers have been reported over Farmington. And on each of the three days their arrival here was reported between 11 and noon. Three persons called the Daily Times office to report seeing strange objects in the air just before noon. Persons along Main Street once again could be seen looking skyward and pointing. High winds and a dust storm prevented clear vision.-Fully half of this town’s population still is certain today that it saw space ships or some strange aircraft — hundreds of them zooming through the skies yesterday. Estimates of the number ranged from “several” to more that 500. Whatever they were, they caused a major sensation in this community, which lies only 110 air miles northwest of the huge Los Alamos Atomic installation. The objects appeared to play tag high in the air. At times they streaked away at almost unbelievable speeds. One witness did a triangulation sighting on one of the objects and estimated its speed at about 1,000 miles an hour, and estimated its size as approximately twice that of a B-29.Farmington citizens stood in the streets yesterday watching the first reported mass “flying saucer” flight ever sighted. Traffic was slowed to avoid hitting sky gazers. The office of the Farmington Daily Times was deluged with calls from persons who saw the objects. A Red Leader Scores described the objects as silvery discs. A number agreed they saw one that was red in color — bigger and faster, and apparently the leader. Clayton J. Boddy, 32, business manager of Farmington Times and a former Army Engineers captain in Italy, was one of those who saw the startling objects. Boddy was on roadway when all of a sudden I noticed a few moving objects high in the sky.” Moments later there appeared what seemed to be about 500 of them,” Boddy continued. He could not estimate their size or speed, but said they appeared to be about 15,000 feet high. Boddy’s account was confirmed by Joseph C. and Francis C. Kelloff, retail grocers from Antonito, Colo., who were in Farmington to inspect the site of a proposed new store, and by Bob Foutz and John Burrell of Farmington. The Kelloffs said the objects appeared to be flying in formation. One of the most impressive accounts came from Harold F. Thatcher, head of the Farmington unit of the Soil Conservation service. Thatcher made a triangulation on one of a number of flying craft, He said if it had been a B-29 it would have been 2,000 feet high and traveling more than 1000 miles per hour. Knows Engineering” I’m not a professional engineer,” Thatcher said, “but I have engineers working under me and I know how to work out rough triangulation on an object.” Thatcher emphatically denied an earlier report that the objects could have been small pieces of cotton fuzz floating in the atmosphere.” It was not cotton,” he said, “I saw several pieces of cotton fuzz floating around in the air at the time, but I was not sighting on any cotton.” The “cotton” report was started by State Patrolman Andy Andrews, who quoted several Farmington Residents as asserting it was cotton they saw. The residents denied Andrew’s report. The first reports of flying saucers were noted a few minutes before 11 a.m. yesterday. For a full hour thereafter people deluged the Times with reports of the objects. A second large scale sighting occurred at 3 p.m. At that time, Mrs. Wilson Jones, 27, and Mr. Roy Hicks, 33, housewives reported seeing objects to the north of Farmington, flying in perfect formation. Others reported the same sight. Johnny Eaton, 29, a real estate and insurance salesman, and Edward Brooks, 24, an employee of the Perry Smoak garage, were the first to report the red-colored sky object. Not AirplanesBrooks, a B-29 tail gunner during the war, said he was positive the objects sighted were not airplanes. “The very maneuvering of the things couldn’t be that of modern aircraft,” he said.
On March 26, 2011, the Durango Herald (Colorado) filed the report, Alien visitors, Enthusiasts gather at 14th Aztec UFO Conference.

Saturday featured a full day of lectures from UFO experts, as well as guided tours of the Aztec UFO crash site.
Led by “Indiana” Judy Cowan, the 1½-hour tours took groups 12 miles northeast of Aztec into Hart Canyon, where it is believed a large spacecraft smashed into the ground March 25, 1948.
Over at the site AztecUfo.com more info about the March 25, 1948 Aztec ‘UFO’.

It was the columnist Frank Scully who first alerted the world to sensational stories of recovered flying saucers and little Aztec Crash Site Area men in his best-selling book Behind the Flying Saucers published in 1950. Scully claimed that up to that time there had been four such recoveries, one of which was alleged to have taken place around Aztec, New Mexico, when sixteen humanoid bodies were recovered together with their undamaged craft. According to Scully’s informants, the disk that landed near Aztec was 99.99 feet in diameter, its exterior made of a light metal resembling aluminum but so durable that no amount of heat (up to 10,000 degrees was applied) or diamond-tipped drill had the slightest effect.
‘Frank Scully’, any relation to Agent Scully in the X-Files?
And,
Sixteen small humanoids, ranging in height from 36 to 42 inches, were supposedly found dead inside the cabin, their bodies charred to a dark brown color. Scully was told that the craft landed undamaged, having landed under its own guidance. The craft was eventually dismantled, the investigators having discovered that it was manufactured in segments which fitted in grooves and were pinned together around the base. The complete cabin section, measuring 18 feet in diameter was lifted out of the base of the saucer, around which was a gear that fitted a gear on the cabin. These segments, together with the bodies, were then transported to Wright Field (Wright Patterson AFB). Some of the bodies were later dissected and examined by the Air Force, and were found to be similar in all respects to human beings, with the exception of their teeth, which were perfect.
The 1950 UFO FBI memo stated a total of 9–’three bodies in human shape, 3 ft. tall–in three spaceships were recovered. The Aztec ‘UFO’ crash info, one spaceship with ’16 small humanoids’.
On April 24, 1964, a ‘close encounter’ with a UFO and aliens near Socorro, New Mexico.

‘Creepy Stick Aliens’ caught on security camera, March, 2011?
(In 2007 a security camera caught on film two small ‘creepy stick-like aliens’ in Fresno, California. Similar type creepy stick aliens were caught on security camera footage in Yosemite Park near Fresno on March 28, 2011.)
As a longtime resident of the Southwest familiar with the ‘Four Corners’ area where Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico intersect, Aztec is located 22 miles northeast of Farmington. Thirty-seven miles further west, the town of Shiprock located near New Mexico Highway 491 which used to be Highway 666– the ‘Devils Highway and Highway to Hell’–until 2003 when the state of New Mexico changed the number to 491. A fun read about Highway 666, The Unexplained Phenomenon of Highway 666. Unexplained phenomena including ‘Satan’s Sedan’ and the ‘Hounds of Hell’. In line with ‘UFOs’, the following paragraph about people who allegedly ‘disappeared without a trace’ or lost track of time.
Many individuals that have started down the ominous path identified as either Highway 666 or U.S Route 491 have seemingly disappeared without a trace. In some cases, a vehicle or another part of the person’s property have been located, but in other cases there is no trace of any evidence that indicates that the individual has even been on the road at all. Many that have disappeared for extremely long periods of time have reappeared with no explanation several hours or several days later. These individuals typically have no concept of time and have not felt as if they have been away for very long. In many instances, they have no recollection of the events that have previously transpired. Then, there are many that have traveled down the ominous highway and have discovered that they took longer than expected based on the accounts of others and are unable to explain the loss of time. This unexplained phenomenon has happened several times throughout history.

When this memo was produced by Stan Friedman it was called bogus by many debunkers. Now that it’s real it doesn’t mean anything.
It is interesting to not that June Crain who worked at Write Patterson as a chief Stenographer from 1942 to 1953 confirmed in her sworn statement that she also was told, after handling a piece of the object, that their was three crashes of these disks. June with a top secret clearance decided to come forward after the Air Force published Roswell case closed. She also stated that the “engineers” who heard the balloon story got a big kick our of it. June’s close friend a Sergent saw the bodies and almost lost it. June was dying of cancer when she came forward.
I don’t know how many people and proof we need to start to be brave enough to say we don’t need anymore proof. Whatever crashed in that desert was not a balloon and the disgraceful way we have treated this folks who cam forward with our pontifications is human ego at is worst. J

Joe,
It does mean something. While the memo doesn’t include specific info–the exact date and location–it does validate there was a credible UFO crashlanding incident with aliens in New Mexico that wasn’t Roswell. Proof the government hustled off UFO evidence before the era of supersonic technology. Whenever you read a scientist’s opinion there’s no proof of the existence of extraterrestrial life visiting our planet, someone should point out there’s ample evidence to contrary. Evidence our government chose to spirit away and not to reveal to the public. There were lessons learned with the Phoenix Lights. Thousands of witnesses see several UFOs, an event which should have been broadcast around the world. While the news media reported the event their job doesn’t require them to ‘explain’ it. That role was the government who ignored the event. The only way we’ll ever see a response from the government, a giant UFO hovering over the White House.

to the extent that this memo is genuine, it is also important.. in fact it seems potentially hugely important.. I think the above article is taking the dismissive tone because it is intellectually fashionable to do so… not much substance though. And I agree with the other commentor about the importance of this memo’s corroboration of the June Crane account.. because she seemed very credible even without corroboration.. now this just strengthens both!

When I say it doesn’t mean anything I mean for the future of UFO witnesses who come forward. MUFON spends more time proving hoaxes on You Tube than proving UFOs are real. The only resource we have are the UFO witnesses and yet they are the ones always attacked. Every major government investigations on UFOs have found UFOs. There are UFOs out there why aren’t we finding them. Why aren’t there clear photos lately. Maybe it’s because MUFON would rather investigate hoaxes then real real UFOs.

Joseph,
I see your point about future witnesses and ridicule which has been part of the UFO ‘game’ for decades. Ridicule, a very potent weapon used to discredit a witness, effectively shutting down discussion. Ridicule can also be ignored while seeking out the source. In the infamous 1969 University of Colorado, Dr. Condon report, Condon suggested psychiatrists should ‘study the believers’ of UFOs. The Air Force shut down Project Blue Book in 1970, citing Condon’s report. The Air Force added, nothing (UFOs) to see here, move along despite the fact they stated a percentage of the UFO sightings they investigated were ‘unexplained’. If something cannot be explained, it’s a mystery still to be solved.

Why do these things always occur in the USA? Millions claim to have been abducted, in the rest of the world… hardly anyone. One can than only conclude that US Citizens are very interesting species… . No, seriously, I think there is life on other planets (impossible us being alone, the universe is too big). If the universe was created 13.8 bn years ago, and the earth 4.5 bn yrs ago, than, knowing how only a few shreds of dna can swiftly evolve in the most various types of creatures, there is a very plausible possibility others have spotted us(or have even been here). They had the time to evolve, or being irradicated by others or themselves. If, on earth, creatures can live in acid, or ultra high pressure circumstances, than the plausibility only raises. We don’t even have to consider other dimensions (though ‘they’ might just even pop in and pop out of ours as they want). But, to them we can only be ‘study cases’. There might be a whole federation out there (like in the movies), but we are certainly not invited (so far). We are still bashing each other’s heads…

“Why do these things always occur in the USA?”
I saw UFOs in Hungary and Austria and I know a few people in those countries, who have seen UFOs too.
Not only US people see UFOs, but the reports come mostly from them.
There is a database for UFO sightings and there are reports from all over the world:
