Mike Castle: Obama and Biden Chat up Castle Tuesday Night
There are no moderate Republicans
Mike Castle, Barack Obama and Joe Biden hold a tele-chat Tuesday night after Castle loses to Christine O’Donnell. No, it’s not the beginning of a bad joke. Or is it?

WHY THE TEA PARTY DIDN’T BACK MIKE CASTLE:
* HASN’T CALLED TO CONGRATULATE O’DONNELL
* WON’T ENDORSE O’DONNELL
* STILL CLINGING TO POWER
Just as there are no moderate Democrats, there are no moderate Republicans.
More on that thought later.
Michelle Malkin asks a very intriguing question: What was Mike Castle talking to Barack Obama and Joe Biden last night about?
Hmmm: What did Mike Castle talk about with Obama and Biden last night?
It’s been 24 hours since Delaware GOP Senate primary winner Christine O’Donnell dethroned nine-term Soros Republican incumbent Mike Castle. As of tonight, he still hadn’t placed an obligatory call to congratulate her — and his e-mail to supporters doesn’t mention her at all, according to the Delaware News Journal.
Even more intriguingly, the paper tweets that Castle’s lines of communication worked quite smoothly when he took calls from…President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden last night:
MM asked for readers to speculate in comments. There were several good speculations.
truesoldier: “My guess is that they are trying to convince him to run as a independent to siphon votes from O’Donnel in exchange for either a Czarship or one of those “unpaid” positions they offered Sestak.”
love2rumba: “Do I hear another Charlie Crist joke coming?”
Isn’t it about time all of the pro-Castle pundits got on the phone to talk Mike down off the ledge? Where’s the Weekly Standard guys? Fred Barnes? John McCormack? What about the NRCC? Where’s John Cornyn? It took a ton of pressure from the Right before Cornyn finally embraced O’Donnell.
There’s a lot of conservatives who point out that wind-sniffers like Mike Castle needs an intervention–and conservatives can’t do it. Where’s the GOP bigwigs who moaned about losing a chance to take control of Senate with Castle defeat?
Christine O’Donnell has cut sharply into the lead of Chris Coons (D-DE). But if Castle goes off the reservation, scratch any chance of winning. Remember: the same people who told us that Christine O’Donnell couldn’t beat Mike Castle seven weeks ago are now saying that she can’t bet Chris Coons in seven more.
In any other field, they’d be laughed at instead of listened to seriously.
Castle was the guy we were supposed to back because he gave us the best chance of “winning.” We would have heard no end of “calls for unity” if Castle had won.
Instead, Castle won’t endorse the Republican winner.
Just like Charlie Crist.
Just like Arlen Specter.
Just like Dede Scozzafava.
Just like Lisa Murkowski.
This is by no means a complete list of the ‘moderate’ Republicans who’ve shown just how much loyalty they have to their party. The same party who lectures conservatives to get behind these hacks after they’ve won a primary.
There are no moderate Democrats: that’s a given.
Moderate Democrats always vote for their party when the chips are down and run like hell when they get back home among the folks they fooled into voting for them because they were supposedly “moderates.” How many moderate Democrats defied Nancy Pelosi?
There are no moderate Republicans.
Moderate Republicans are GOP Strong when they’re the party’s pick to enjoy the trappings of DC power. Conservatives are told to quit throwing up in their mouths long enough to pull the lever for these weasels.
But where are the so-called moderates when they lose?
See the list above for starters. They bolt the party, run as independents, run as write-in long shots: anything to cling to power. It’s about time for moderates to break the pattern and show some loyalty. John McCain? Remember 2004? Maybe he’s going to be John Kerry’s VP?
It’s time for the Establishment GOP and the pundits who support them to get on the horn and call in some chits. Otherwise, it appears that the GOP Establishment and the Democrats are more alike than different.
Wow, all of those people over the years who insisted that “there’s no difference between the two parties”; that “they are all just politicians.” Kinda makes you feel like a sucker if Castle takes a powder, doesn’t it?
In more ways than one.
What were Mike Castle and Barack Obama and Joe Biden talking about last night?
Here’s a guess: it wasn’t about supporting the winner of the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in November.
UPDATE: Forgot to include this originally. Cassy Fiano makes a great point–probably better than I tried to make it. Lessons from Delaware: Establishment Republicans are just as bad as the Democrats

No moderate Democrats? Huh??
What were you, in a coma during the health care reform fight? The Dems had a filibuster-proof majority in NAME, yet couldn’t pass a Public Option despite the vast majority of the country wanting one. They couldn’t do this because of the huge wing of the party from red states that are conservative (ie, moderate) Democrats. Again, which drugs were you on during that time period? And so many others.
Are you living in the parallel universe where Spock has a beard? Amazing.

Mark,
For the record, any drugs I may have been on were paid for out-of-pocket.
Seven weeks from tomorrow, the country’s voters will clearly get to state their preferences about health care on a national level for the first time. (Missouri’s voters got an early jump on registering their views on ObamaCare.)
We’ll see if your “vast majority of the country wanting [the public option] materializes.
Apparently, bearded Spock is living amongst quite a large percentage of the USA.
Thanks for your comment.
