Texas Ranches Seized by Drug Cartel: Story Confirmed

Story details confirmed by copy of Police blotter

The story of the two ranches near Laredo, Texas, has been confirmed-or at least parts of the story. The story which broke over the weekend of July 23-25 has been on the back burner until Kimberly Dvorak, one of the original reporters posted a copy of the police report.

Details of the story from over two weeks ago about two ranches which were occupied by members of the Los Zetas drug cartel have been confirmed by one of the story’s original reporters, Kimberly Dvorak of the San Diego Political Buzz Examiner.

From Rancher claims Mexican cartels takeover Texas ranch -Police blotter confirms story is not a hoax :

“On Friday 7-23-10 Laredo Webb informed that their county SWAT Team is conducting an operation in the Mines Rd. area. According to LT. Garcia with LSO (Laredo Sheriff Office) received a call from a ranch owner stating that the Zetas had taken over his ranch. As per the 17 (reporting person) he informed them that they stated La Compania (area business) was taking the ranch and no one was permitted on the ranch without permission. SO (Sheriff Office) will have an unmarked green Ford Taurus with two officers stationed at Los Compadres and a white Chevy Tahoe with two officers stationed at Mineral Rd. The LSO (Laredo Sheriff Office) will maintain surveillance in the area and advise if action is taken. Susp (suspect) Veh (vehicle) are described as a gray or silver Audi, a BLK (black) Escalade or Navigator and a van truck with a logo of a car wash spot free on the side. Border Patrol also has their response team on scene. Also known info of BMW’s and Corvettes entering and leaving the area. Auth LT Lichtenberger if assistance is requested LPD (Laredo Police Department) will secure the outer perimeter. (07/24/10 07:42:10 NR1873)”

Dvorak’s original story, Los Zetas drug cartel seizes 2 U.S. ranches in Texas. was attacked soon after publication as a “Internet rumor,” a “hoax” and “outright lies.”

Dvorak has now posted a copy of the police blotter which confirms many of the story’s details, including several that DBKP had been able to ascertain through other sources. One detail that is different from the original report: only one ranch was reported to police instead of the two originally reported.

Click map to enlarge

1-That the incident took place in Webb County, TX outside the city of Laredo beginning on July 23, 2010.
2-That the location of the ranch(es) was on Minerales Annex Road, not Mines Road (Rt. 1472), as some had reported.
3-That officers from various law enforcement organizations responded or were notified.
4-That surveillance of the area was ongoing from July 24 until at least early AM July 26. This last point has not been confirmed yet by public police sources.
5-That members of the Los Zetas drug cartel were involved.
6-That law enforcement were not only aware of Los Zetas involvement, but knew which cars they were likely driving.
7-That law enforcement had not blocked off Mines Road and but were stationed on Minerales Annex Road.
8-From the police report, only one ranch was under surveillance, not two, as originally reported.

A copy of the police report can be accessed at the Examiner link cited above. DBKP will post a copy as an update to this story later today.

There is more to come on this story, as we have reported since July 24.

But the basic details are now known.

More will be released over the next seven-ten days. By the sound of her story, it appears that Dvorak is moving on.

A media firestorm ensued after this reporter posted a story on Saturday July 24, 2010. Now that the story is corroborated, it will be up to local media to track down what events took place after the Zetas seized a U.S ranch.

Stay tuned for updates reports throughout the week.

That goes for DBKP as well: stay tuned for updates. The next post on this subject will be sometime later this afternoon.

This story is as phoney as the easter bunny. Several law enforcement agencies have already gone door to door in the ranches of the area – there is no such take-over.

The writer even lists a non-existent law enforcement agency. Why would anyone believe someone who is not even from here? All these fake reports are doing is wasting tax-payer monies by crying wolf and having different law enforcement agencies go out to check on something NOT HAPPENING.

    Laredoan,

Uh huh. Leave the Easter bunny out of it!

…and I’ll bet you were all over the Falcon Dam incident too, huh?

Who am I gonna believe: you or my lying eyes?

    Thanks for your comment.

I saw no police report on the examiner page, just what looked like a screen shot of info on a computer screen. The info looked convincing, but given Ms. Dvorvak’s lack of credibility and no other sources cited; I have to wait and see on this one. If someone with a gun tried to take over my home I would be screaming blood y murder over it. So why haven’t we heard from the victims?

    Brian,

You make some good points–with the exception of questioning Ms. Dvorak’s lack of credibility–and ask some good questions.

If someone with a gun tried to take over my home I would be screaming blood y murder over it. So why haven’t we heard from the victims?

I imagine that your home is not located within a 1/2 mile of our southern border; an area that the press is starting to refer to as a “war zone.” As to “why we haven’t we heard from the victims,” I might add the word “yet.”

But even without that one word, there’s several reasons why the victims–and participating law enforcement–have been reticent thus far. For some time, there was on-going surveillance; that may or may not be over. From what I’ve been able to gather, it’s over. At least in a 24/7 way.

Also, from what I’ve been able to gather, despite the assurances of those in Washington, there is an element of fear by some who live in border areas to speak out–especially in areas where they do not feel they are completely protected by those giving the assurances.

I don’t mean to say that everyone is cowering, but prudence is a consideration. Prudence refers not only to possible retaliation, but ridicule. Would they be believed? Would they be attacked as “scaremongering,” “hate-filled racists” or “trying to stir up resentments?”

Similar to what Dvorak and the others who originally reported on this story have experienced, only on a smaller scale. For a local TV report of an incident not nearly as traumatic as the Laredo one, check out this YouTube video where the reporter says “no one” would go on camera to comment–though they offered pictures to the TV station as proof of what had occurred.
