Ground Zero Mosque Developer Owes Over $200,000 in Back Property Taxes
New York City Comptroller says Developer may qualify for tax-free public loan
We’re not the only ones who find Mayor Bloomberg’s latest statements related to the Ground Zero mosque increasingly bizarre, especially when you compare and contrast Bloomberg’s statements to the latest news, the developer owing over $200,000 in back property taxes while the New York City Comptroller’s Office says the developer may qualify for a tax-free, tax payer subsidized loan.
Four days after Bloomberg stated there would be “no compromise” on moving the mosque to a location further away from Ground Zero, the New York Post reported the developer owes more the $200,000 in back taxes on the property where the developer plans to build the mosque. The New York Post report filed two days after Reuters reported the developer of the Ground Zero mosque could qualify for tax-free financing from the New York City Comptroller’s Office, with City Comptroller John Liu stating he was “willing to consider approving the public subsidy”.
The mosque developers are tax deadbeats.
Sharif El-Gamal, the leading organizer behind the mosque and community center near Ground Zero, owes $224,270.77 in back property tax on the site, city records show.
El-Gamal’s company, 45 Park Place Partners, failed to pay its half-yearly bills in January and July, according to the city Finance Department.
The delinquency is a possible violation of El-Gamal’s lease with Con Edison, which owns half of the proposed building site on Park Place. El-Gamal owns the other half but must pay taxes on the entire parcel.
The lease agreement, obtained by The Post, specifies that El-Gamal’s company pay taxes on the property and submit receipts to Con Ed.
The utility said it would have to review any possible lease violations.
Which means while Mayor Bloomberg was and still is out drumming up support for the construction of the mosque, castigating opponents with “shame on you”, and,
“This is a test of our commitment to American values. We have to have the courage of our convictions. We must do what is right, not what is easy. And we must put our faith in the freedoms that have sustained our great country for more than 200 years,” the developer Sharif El-Gamalf wasn’t paying the property taxes. The very same developer who “last year” plunked down $4.8 million in cash for his half of the property.

Even more intriguing, Mayor Bloomberg’s reply to the question of whether the developer and the funds for the mosque should be investigated. On July 14, the New York Post reported:
Bloomberg was asked Monday about GOP gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio’s demands last week that Democratic rival Andrew Cuomo investigate the mosque being developed near the Sept. 11 attack site.
The mayor has defended the mosque plans before. On Monday, he said investigating or vetting religious organizations goes against what the nation stands for.

On August 26, during an appearance on The Jon Stewart Show, Bloomberg stated:
“The family members, they do care,” Bloomberg told “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart Aug. 26. “And the family members that I’ve talked to – and I’m chairman of the board of the World Trade Center Memorial – 100 percent in favor of saying, ‘These people, if they want to build a mosque, can build a mosque. The lives of our loved ones were taken because the right to build a mosque or say what you want to say was so threatening to people.’”

Even Stewart, who takes Bloomberg’s side in supporting the mosque and has mocked opponents in several episodes of the hit comedy news program, couldn’t let Bloomberg’s exaggeration go unchecked.
“I think the difficulty always is, unfortunately, I’m sure there are veterans who fought over there who feel we shouldn’t,” Stewart said. “I’m sure there are family members, maybe you haven’t heard of them, who feel we shouldn’t.”
Even more bizarre this quote from Bloomberg:
“There’s nothing new here,” he said, referring to the fact the project has been in the works for over a year. “The difference is we’re in an election season and this whole issue, I think, will go away right after the next election. This is, plain and simple, people trying to stir up things to get publicity and trying to polarize people so that they can get some votes, and I don’t think that most of the people who are yelling and screaming really care one way or another.”
A mind boggling statement from Bloomberg who believes “most” of the 68-71% of Americans who are opposed to the mosque, don’t “really care one way or another”. According to Mike,
“The lives of our loved ones were taken because the right to build a mosque or say what you want to say was so threatening to people.”
Which people? The 911 terrorists? The Islamic extremist terrorists were threatened because you can build a mosque in America?
Bloomberg’s solution: Build a mosque next to Ground Zero. (New York City has a hundred mosques including 17 mosques in Manhattan.)
Even more intriguing, the response from our leftie-liberal counterparts who support building the mosque. The same crowd who, when writing about right-wing conservatives, try mightily to connect the dots between right-wing conservatives and “religion”. The most handy target: Sarah Palin, labeled the moron who attends a Creationist Church. While showing utter disgust and disdain for Palin and the dinosaurs roamed the earth 6,000 years ago Creationist crowd, the very same liberals have weighed in on the controversial Ground Zero mosque giving a BIG THUMBS UP of approval, casting heaps of shame on the 61-68% of Americans who disapprove. According to the all-knowing, all-wise liberal journalists, those Americans are bigoted, which, in the case of the liberals labeling “those” Americans bigots, “It takes one to know one”.
We’re still wondering whether Bloomberg’s defense of Ground Zero mosque is related to Bloomberg’s business plan to dominate the Islamic Finance market? The ongoing Islamic Finance Middle East turf war between Bloomberg and Reuters?

El-Gamal first said he didn’t hit the man, but arrest documents obtained by CBS 2 showed he later conceded “his face could have run into my hand.” Oh yeah, nothing but peace & love flowing from the mosque that this clown builds with funding from????? Invite El-Gamal into a dark alley where he wants to shove a mosque in the faces of 911 victim families and he might wake up to discover that “his face ran into quite a few of their hands.”
