DEATH BY 1000 PAPERCUTS: THE FIRST THREE YEARS
Some facts and figures from our first three years.
(Later today, we’ll publish some of the interesting graphics/pictures from our extensive archives of our first three years.)
FIRSTS!
* First story published on DBKP: The War on The War on Terror by Mondoreb. [Though the date says August 28, 2007, this was really published on August 27. The date got changed during the transfer of our older articles to the new site.]
* First story by LBG: Nuge, Dude, WTF? on August 28, 2007. [Though the author is listed as Mondoreb, this was LBG's first story. Another of the credits that didn't accurately make the transfer to the new site.]
* First item by RidesAPaleHorse: Osama Bin Laden: Dead or Dead? on September 3, 2007.
* First item by pat: Larry Craig: The Craivan on September 8, 2007.
* Most amounts of hits on a single story in one day: The Day Calvin and Hobbes Died. Published on December 31, 2007. Made the front page of FARK around midnight and received 65,054 page views on January 1, 2008. The original was published at DBKP@Blogger.
* First time DBKP got “noticed”: GOOD THING AHMADINEJAD DOESN’T BELIEVE IN THE GOLDEN RULE He’d Never Set Foot Near Ground Zero-Mark Steyn’s Take on the Iranian Nutbag on September 20, 2007. It was quoted and linked to Mark Steyn at National Review, Powerline and Conservative Grapevine (now Linkiest), among others. Our traffic that day was a (then) mind-blowing 1128 visitors.
10 days later, Iran Names CIA “Terrorist Organization” A NEW PLAYER IN THE WAR on TERROR got almost 7900 hits–in 2 hours–when the story made the front page of Digg. That was before the Diggers had discovered that we were conservatives. They were enraged!
* First month we cracked 500,000 page views: July 2010. We had 558, 242, though we probably will exceed that this month.
* When we mad the switch to http://deathby1000papercuts.com (this site!): March 3, 2008, though we shut back down after about 36 hours when some glitches arose. We started back up on the night of March 16-17, 2008 and have been here ever since. Except for October 2009, when we were down for 9 days because of the worm hack attack…

NOW would be a good time for the myriad thank yous that never seem to get said enough–then no more until 2011!
* THANKS to the readers: it’s why we do it when we should be in bed zzzzzz-ing.
* THANKS to contributors past: Luscious Peach, Babba Zee and Trench Reynolds, in particular.
* THANKS to the contributors present: from Chris Muir to Jamie, Michael Volpe, Nancy Morgan, Stilton Jarlsberg, BigFurHat and the guys at I Own The World (even when they were at People’s Cube as the KG3), Maksim…everyone too numerous to mention (I know I’ll kick myself for the ones I left out, but that doesn’t mean I forgot–it’s late). This includes our newest: Jared from the Looking Spoon and Dan Youra from Utoons. These are the people who make it a little easier for us. In return, hopefully we’ve sent everyone a little traffic and link love for your troubles…And we have more coming in the days ahead!
* THANKS to our tipsters: some great stories have come from this collection of readers who have chosen to remain (mostly) anonymous. This includes the indefatigable AL-F and FS, as well as the army of those who contributed heavily to our “Crack Research Staff” past and present.
* THANKS to LBG and RAPH (part of the Original Band of Three–and pat, wherever you are): Sometimes you have to wonder how these two have hung in there for three years. We couldn’t have gotten here without both of you!
* THANKS to anyone I left out. Email me so I’ll add you to the list for 2011.
That’s it for now.
THANKS and enjoy!
