Bloomberg, Ground Zero Mosque: Building the Mosque Will Deter Terrorists?

Faisal Shahzad: Botched Times Square Car Bomber unaware of 17 mosques located in Manhattan?
We find it highly ironic Mayor Bloomberg, in his overwrought defense of the development plans to build a center with a mosque near Ground Zero during an iftar dinner at the Gracie Manson, stated not building the mosque would be a “propaganda tool for terrorist recruiters”. The reason why: On May 1st, Pakistani Muslim Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized American citizen who worked in the U.S. as a financial analyst and earned degrees at an American university tried to detonate a car bomb in Times Square. On May 1st there were 17 mosques in Manhattan, and, eighty-three mosques in New York City, a total of a hundred mosques. There’s also a mosque located in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the location of Shahzad’s residence.
In a news conference. Bloomberg said, “This was an act that was designed to kill innocent civilians and strike fear into the hearts of Americans.” However, he pointed to the crowds of people who have continued to flock to Times Square as evidence that New Yorkers are unafraid. “We will not be intimidated,” he said.
Referring to the arrest of Faisal Shahzad, 30, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Pakistan, Bloomberg added that “we will not tolerate any bias or backlash against any Pakistani or Muslim New Yorkers.” He said New York remains proud of its reputation as a city where people of all faiths can practice their religion and where “people from every part of the world live in the same neighborhoods.”
Before the federal authorities captured Shahzad at Kennedy Airport, bound for Dubai, Bloomberg, in an interview with CBS’s Katie Couric ventured as guess as to the identity of the botched Times Square car bomber:
“If I had to guess, twenty five cents, this would be exactly that, somebody who’s homegrown, maybe a mentally deranged person or somebody with a political agenda that doesn’t like the healthcare bill or something, it could be anything.”
Or, it could be a Muslim terrorist living in the U.S. who trained with the Pakistan Taliban, and, who made a video. A video which the Muslim reads from the Koran while describing his intent to harm Americans.
On August 25th the New York Post reported Bloomberg’s iftar dinner speech at Gracie Mansion. Bloomberg on why there shouldn’t be any compromise on the Ground Zero mosque.
“We would send a signal around the world that Muslim-Americans may be equal in the eyes of the law, but separate in the eyes of their countrymen.”
He added, “And we would hand a valuable propaganda tool to terrorist recruiters who spread the fallacy that America is at war with Islam.”
If building a mosque sends the right signal, America isn’t at war with Islam, why didn’t the presence of a hundred mosques in New York City, the mosque located in Bridgeport, CT, or the over 1200 mosques in America send the message to Shahzad and his Pakistani Muslim Taliban pals America isn’t at war with Islam?
Since the hundred mosques located in New York City didn’t deter Shahzad from attempting to car bomb Times Square, would opposing the building of the Ground Zero mosque lead to another terrorist attack, such as Bloomberg inferred in his iftar speech?
Highly informative, Bloomberg’s interview with Katie Couric on CBS News. An interview which occurred hours before federal authorities nabbed Shahzad at Kennedy Airport on a plane bound for Dubai.
Faisal Shahzad — the son of an air force officer in a wealthy Pakistani family — was arrested Monday night, pulled off a plane that was about to fly to the Middle East.
….
“Based on what we know so far, it is clear that this was a terrorist plot aimed at murdering Americans in one of the busiest places in our country,” Attorney General Eric Holder said in Washington.
Shahzad was on board a Dubai-bound flight that was taxiing away from the gate at Kennedy Airport late Monday when the plane was turned around and federal authorities took him into custody, law enforcement officials said. Federal officials had placed him on a “no-fly” list hours before his arrest.
Mayor Bloomberg speculates on the identity of the Times Square car bomber, including a “homegrown terrorist”, a “deranged person”, or, someone with a “political agenda” angry at the (Obama) healthcare bill.
We’d like to ask Mayor Bloomberg, how many “homegrown terrorists” have tried to, or carried out a terrorist attack on New York City?
Bloomberg stated it was “UnAmerican” to investigate the mosque. Really?
Bloomberg’s Katie Couric interview is reminiscent of Mayor Vaughn in Spielberg’s 1975 film, “Jaws” after several swimmers had been attacked by a great white shark.
Mayor Vaughn: Martin, it’s all psychological. You yell barracuda, everybody says, “Huh? What?” You yell shark, we’ve got a panic on our hands on the Fourth of July.

Here’s a fresh and original take on the issue. Nothing political – strictly architecture. (After all the Mosque is a building isn’t it?) http://archialternative.com/2010/08/27/gz-mosque/
