Ohio Tea Party: Rally at St. Clairsville is Magnet For Candidates
First of July Tea Party Rally at St. Clairsville Ohio
Hundreds of people gathered for a First of July rally in St. Clairsville OH. Several congressional candidates–as well as candidates for local offices–attended, along with one counter-protester. Though the crowd seemed determined to roll back big government and its boosters, most appeared cheerful and up-beat. Some pictures from the event.

FIRST OF JULY IS A GOOD DAY FOR TEA PARTY RALLY
The weather couldn’t have been better. The streets around the St. Clairsville, OH, courthouse–situated on a small hill in the center of the town–were blocked off in the area around the courthouse. The scene about an hour before the event.
Don’t Tread on Me seemed to be the prevailing sentiment of most of the crowd.
The main streets surrounding the courthouse were blocked off for the rally and the crowd began to fill up the area. Estimates were hard to come by, but the crowd was in the hundreds, maybe as high as 1000.
There were a couple anti-Obama shirts in the crowd, but most of the signs focused on particular issues: taxes, cap and trade, ObamaCare.
This attendee got three issues on one sign–and a BONUS “No Charlie.” “Charlie” is most likely Congressman Charlie Wilson (D-OH) who cast several votes for ObamaCare. Wilson has been defending those votes in closed media settings, particularly in the friendly confines of the area’s biggest radio station, WWVA. The congressman has been less willing to defend his votes in unfriendly settings, which is natural.
But, if ObamaCare is the great deal that he proposed it would be when he voted for it, why isn’t he helping the president on his multi-million dollar Pimp ‘N’ Pub tour?
Charlie Wilson’s opponent in the November 2010 election is Republican Bill Johnson, who’s built part of his campaign around giving out “American Excess” cards…
…signed on the back by “Barack Obama” and “Charlie Wilson.” The card also reads: The not-so-fine print: It’s OUR tax dollars funding THEIR shopping spree
Bill Johnson himself showed up to greet those who gathered in St. Clairsville to listen music and listen to a variety of speakers. Interested in helping the Johnson cause or learning more? BillJohnsonLeads.com is the candidate’s website.
Also on hand was David McKinley (R), who is running for the WV 1st Congressional seat currently held by Alan Mollahon (D-WV). Mollohan, who also supported ObamaCare was tossed out in the Democratic primary election. McKinley will face Mike Oliverio in the general election. McKinley’s website has plenty of information and a page to donate. McKinley for Congress is his website for those interested in helping.
One spirited counter-protester showed up. Or was he really a counter-protester? The unnamed man kept proclaiming that “The military is56% of the discretionary budget!”
Of course, the trillions in social spending, the Post Office, entitlement programs, etc. are not listed as “discretionary” parts of the budget. Also, since Congress refuses to even VOTE on a budget, how can he know what percentage military spending is? Maybe the man was referring to the last budget Congress had the brass to actually vote on?!?
But, still, the guy wanted to cut the budget somewhere. So, he might have been a Tea Partier after all.
