Mexican Drug Cartel Seizes Texas Ranches Update: Los Zetas Plot to Blow up Falcon Dam near Laredo
Media didn't report May, 2010, Los Zetas Falcon dam plot incident until weeks after incident occurred
In May 2010, a small army of law enforcement scrambled to thwart a plot by the los Zetas cartel to blow up a dam near Laredo TX. Local media didn’t cover it nor did the national MSM. The best source of news as the incident unfolded? Los Zetas, who warned residents on the Mexican side with pamphlets and announcements via bullhorns. The Houston Chronicle reported on it–6-8 weeks after the fact.
“It would have been a hell of a disaster,” said Gene Falcon, director of emergency preparedness for Starr County, site of the dam. “There was plenty of concern.”

MSM, LOCAL PRESS, LOCAL AUTHORITIES REMAINED MUM DURING THE BATTLE FOR FALCON DAM–DESPITE DISCOVERY OF DYNAMITE NEAR DAM BY AUTHORITIES
While we’re still awaiting verification a Mexican drug cartel, the Los Zetas, have seized two South Texas ranches with an alleged operation or “standoff” between the cartel and the “authorities”, we’ve discovered a recent incident which occurred “some time” in May. An incident where government authorities including Homeland Security, the Texas Dept. of Public Safety, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and local officials “secretly scrambled” to “thwart” what the federal government considered a credible plot of the Los Zetas Cartel blowing up Falcon Dam located near Laredo, on U.S. soil.
A story which, when it unfolded, wasn’t reported by the local press, the local authorities, or the mainstream media. The Mexican residents across the border were warned by the Los Zeta drug cartel, handing out handbills and using bullhorns.
What conclusion can we draw from this?
That the best source of news and information as the story unfolded came not from the local press, the local authorities, or the national mainstream media: It came from a Mexican drug cartel.
Houston Chronicle, June 2, 2010
Agents feared Mexican drug cartel attack on border damAn alleged plot by a Mexican drug cartel to blow up a dam along the Texas border — and unleash billions of gallons of water into a region with millions of civilians — sent American police, federal agents and disaster officials secretly scrambling last month to thwart such an attack, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
In the Chronicle story, the Chronicle reported the Los Zetas Falcon Dam plot incident involved:
-Homeland Security, The U.S Border Patrol, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Zapata County Sheriff’s Department, and, the Mexican military.
-The federal government “contends” there were “serious and reliable sources” which prompted the federal government to “swing in to action” including Homeland Security to issue an alert “first responders along the South Texas-Mexico border.

Federal and local authorities “swung into action” after a “small amount of dynamite” was discovered near the dam along with “plans” seized by Mexican authorities.
-The federal government, local, and state authorities descended upon the dam, after Los Zetas gang members handed handbills and used bullhorns to alert Mexican residents to “get out”:
With handbills and bullhorns, members of the Zeta cartel are said to have warned the civilian population on the Mexican side of the river near the dam to get out of the area, according to residents and intelligence information from law enforcement officials.
-The Los Zetas plot to blow up the dam was a revenge plot against the Gulf drug cartel, rivals of the Los Zetas whose smuggling routes are located in the Falcon Dam reservoir area.

We did some research on when this incident was reported by the press, in particular, the local press in Texas. Whether the local press reported Homeland Security had issued an alert and that federal authorities were in the area investigating a plot by a Mexican drug cartel to blow up an American dam. Whether the local press had reported Los Zeta gang members, just across the border in Nuevo Laredo, were handing out handbills and yelling on bullhorns from Mexican residents to “get out”.
Here’s what we discovered:
We’ve been unable to locate any reports from the local press when the incident occurred, an incident the Houston Chronicle, the first MSM news source to report the story, stated the incident occurred “sometime last month”.
On June 22, FOX News reported Drug Cartel Activity Threatens Texas Water Supplies, Lawmaker Says:
According to FOX News, Congress was concerned about the Los Zetas plot to blow up the dam with members of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water and Power holding a hearing on a bill which would create a new task force, the Southwest Border Region Water Task Force. A task who would “monitor and assess the water supply needs of the area”.
Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Calif., ranking member of the House subcommittee, told FoxNews.com that the situation needs immediate attention, particularly in light of reports that a Mexican drug cartel — the Los Zetas — unsuccessfully plotted to blow up the Falcon Dam along the Rio Grande last month.
“If the plot against Falcon Dam had succeeded, it would have affected more than 4 million residential customers,” McClintock said Monday. “We need to focus our attention on securing these border water systems from attack by Mexican drug cartels, but also their use as a conduit for the illegal importation of drugs and people.”
FOX News cited the June 2nd, Houston Chronicle report.
What FOX didn’t report:
When the incident occurred–an incident which involved federal, state, and local authorities responding to what the federal government believed to be a very credible threat the Los Zetas drug cartel was about to blow up Falcon Dam.; an incident which wasn’t reported by the local media.
A local media report which would have alerted the mainstream news media that there was incident unfolding in their area involving local, state, and federal authorities, and, the Mexican military.
An incident involving a plot to blow the local 5-mile long dam with Los Zetas drug members handing out handbills and using blowhorns to alert the Mexican citizens to “get out”.
NOTE: The information only was reported by Fox in a routine report on the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water and Power hearing.
