Hunter claims she was “clueless” this photo was inappropriate

It’s easy predict in the Oprah interview Rielle Hunter, pronounced “real”, will opt to keep her pants on. (Hunter caught huge flack for posing in her panties and a men’s business shirt on her daughter’s bed next to 2-yr-old Quinn’s stuffed toys and on her own bed in photos in the GQ interview.)

According to Enquirer the Oprah-Rielle Hunter interview occurred this past week with the episode to be aired during May sweeps. According the Nielsen Ratings, the 2010 May Sweeps dates are April 29 – May 26. It’s a sure bet John Edwards will be described in gushing, glowing terms while Hunter will ignore or disavow any collateral damage. Damage done to the Edwards marriage, damage to their children and the destruction of Edwards’ political career. Hunter will show a total lack of remorse, shame, or guilt while painting Elizabeth Edwards and Andrew and Cheri Young as “villains”.

Rielle Hunter is 46. Hunter and Edwards’ daughter Quinn turned two in late February. Hunter became pregnant in May of 2007 during Edwards’ unsuccessful run for President and a little over a month after Elizabeth was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Sources close to Elizabeth Edwards say the Edwards had officially separated in late January of 2010.

In her first public relations foray, Hunter’s GQ interview, Hunter made statements which we addressed in Rielle Hunter GQ Interview: The Many Versions of the Rielle Truth. For those who have yet to read the post, here’s a few of Hunter’s statements. Statements which we believe are examples of Hunter’s need to “reshape” the “truth” in order for the pubic to see her in a more favorable light.

First up, Hunter’s “I could have cashed out big. But that’s not what I’m about.”

“Could have cashed out big, but that’s not what I’m about?!?”

Who could guess garnering somewhere between $10,000/month (what Edwards originally offered her) and almost $18,000/month (what Hunter requested) in child support isn’t cashing out big?

A lot of single mothers–with no other visible means of support and some rusty job skills (Hunter hasn’t worked outside of her “Johnny gig” for over four years)–would consider $120,000-205,000/year “cashing out.”

2. He’s very supportive of me talking now. He [Johnny] believes that it’s something that will help me be at peace with it. And he knows how important truth is to me. Factual truth as well as spiritual truth.

We all know how important the truth is to Rielle Hunter. Here’s Hunter’s statement released on October 11, 2007.

“The innuendoes and lies that have appeared on the internet and in the National Enquirer concerning John Edwards are not true, completely unfounded and ridiculous.

My video production company was hired by the Edwards camp on a 6 month contract, which we completed December 31, 2006.

When working for the Edwards camp, my conduct as well as the conduct of my entire team was completely professional.

This concocted story is just dirty politics and I want no part of it.”

The second sentence in the statement is arguably the truth–we’re not sure, because Newsweek’s Jonathan Darman reported in August 2008 that Hunter had told him that she was fired from the campaign by Elizabeth Edwards. That’s certainly one way of “completing” a contract.

The rest is a complete fabrication.

Unless Hunter classifies the making of a sex tape (which she herself in her court documents insists was made during September 2006) starring Edwards and herself as “completely professional” conduct.

In the GQ interview Hunter claimed when she met Edwards she knew “instantly” she could “help” him. Not sexually but in an intellectually “spiritual” way. Hunter claimed that after she told Edwards she could “help” him–Hunter claims the “I can help you” was all the conversation it took for Edwards to be eager to hear the rest of her spiel–Edwards gave her the number of his Regency Hotel room. Hunter claimed she called Edwards’ room–Hunter claimed she called within a half an hour–but didn’t leave message then was surprised when, “10 minutes later”, Edwards called her back.

8. So I hung up. And about ten minutes later, my cell phone rang. And I looked down, and I said to my friends, “What is this number?” One of my friends said, “That’s the Regency.” And I said, “He’s calling me back? I didn’t even leave a message. How is he calling me back?” And he, you know, star-69′ed or whatever the caller ID was. And he left me this message, “Hi. Call me. I really want to hear what you have to say.”

Martin Lewis, Huffington Post [John Edwards & Rielle Hunter: The First Big Lie], is ahead of the curve on this one. Let’s turn it over to him.

I just telephoned the Regency Hotel — where according to Rielle Hunter and multiple other accounts — John Edwards was staying the night they met and where she telephoned him.

I spoke to a very nice lady on the Front Desk. Juliet Bird. I inquired about the telephone facilities in the guest rooms. “Are the telephones at the Regency Hotel equipped with “caller ID” or “star-69″ facility?”

She told me that she had never been asked that particular question before and would need to check with a supervisor familiar with the hotel’s telephone system.

She checked. The answer was — as I suspected — no. Neither of those facilities, or anything like them, were available on the telephones in their guest rooms.

It’s easy to get that ’star-69 thing’ confused.

Andrew Young’s version is more simplistic–but not nearly as fraught with cat-and-mouse romanticism.

Young says that Edwards gave Hunter the key card to his hotel room.

In the Oprah interview Hunter will address the GQ photo controversy. Hunter purportedly told Barbara Walters she “cried for two hours” when the April issue of GQ hit the stands and Hunter saw, for the first time, the accompanying photos.

People:

Hunter trusted the photographer, Mark Seliger, to take classy photos, according to Walters. But several of them show Hunter lounging around in only a collared white dress shirt and no pants. “I went with the flow,” Walters quoted Hunter as saying.

Mark Selinger isn’t the first person Rielle Hunter has thrown under the bus in an attempt to portray herself as a victim. Selinger was smart, he opted to videotape the photo shoot then GQ released the video along with the interview. Hunter, who claims she was a “professional” videographer during the latter half of 2006 who made “webisodes”, or mini-documentaries of Edwards while boffing Edwards in luxury hotel suites “on the side” and the infamous sex tape starring Hunter and Edwards, claims she had no “idea” the photos would be “repulsive”. Here’s video, judge for yourself whether Hunter was, once again, “victimized” while “going with the flow”:

The GQ photos were representative of how “clueless” Hunter is when involved in decisions regarding appropriateness. The appropriateness of a mistress posing in an outfit which says “sex” next to her toddler daughter’s stuffed toys.

Hunter’s claim she was just “going with the flow” is the same claim Hunter uses to disassociate herself from her involvement in the cover-up of the affair and Hunter’s pregnancy.

Selinger isn’t the first person Hunter has thrown under the bus in order to portray herself as a victim. Andrew and Cheri Young were trashed in the GQ interview. Hunter’s main target was Elizabeth Edwards. Hunter attacked Elizabeth in a particularity venomous way while claiming it was Elizabeth’s fault Rielle Hunter was John Edwards’ mistress. For more read:
