Rielle Hunter on Oprah: The GQ Photos, Video of Photo Shoot

Rielle Hunter claims she had no idea the photos which accompanied her GQ interview would be “repulsive”, that she was “just going with the flow” and thought the photos would be “classy”. Hunter recently interviewed with Oprah in Hunter’s Charlotte, NC, home. We’re betting Hunter will make the very same claims to Oprah about the GQ photo and photo shoot. Claims which Oprah’s audience will hear but not may be informed by Hunter, GQ’s side of the story.

The Case of the Rielle Hunter GQ Panties Photo Shoot

GQ was smart and put out a video of the photo shoot which we’ve got. The video either proves Hunter’s claim she was clueless, or, proves Hunter has been caught out in yet another Rielle Hunter “failure to tell the truth”.

Ever pose for a magazine in your panties and totally regret it later?

That seemed to be the kind of day Rielle Hunter was having Monday, after photos from her sensational GQ interview hit the Internet and went worldwide. On “The View,” Barbara Walters said she had talked to John Edwards’s former mistress, and she was “in tears.”

“She found the photographs repulsive,” said the veteran ABC broadcaster. “When I asked if that was the case, why did she pose the way she did” — big white shirt, strand of pearls, bare legs curled up on a bed — “she said she trusted Mark Seliger, whom she said is a brilliant photographer, and quote, ‘I went with the flow.’ ” Of all the photos Seliger took, Hunter told Walters she never imagined GQ would run more than, say, one sexy one. “She cried for two hours,” Walters said.

Seliger, a top portraitist for the big glossy magazines, could not be reached for comment, and his office referred us to GQ — which happily responded:

“I have no idea how she feels about the photos,” said Editor-in-Chief Jim Nelson. “but I think you can see how comfortable she was at the shoot by watching the video posted at gq.com.”

One of the “sexy” photos is the very same photo posted above. A photo of Rielle Hunter, sans pants, wearing a man’s shirt and pearls in “sexy” pose on her daughter’s bed next to 2-yr-old Quinn’s toys. Just “going with the flow”. To be fair, perhaps Hunter’s photo shoot “outfit”: panties, a man’s dress shirt, pearls, makeup, and tousled hair is how Hunter dresses every day!

“Headshots” or Bedshots”, Really, is there a difference? Depends, I suppose, on what one’s “belief systems” are. (Hunter is a believer of belief systems, in fact, later in this post I included Hunter’s response to a question about Oprah. A response which included Hunter’s judgment of Oprah’s own belief systems!)

As for Hunter’s claim the photos, taken on what looks like Hunter’s bed, would be “headshots”, New York Daily News spoke with GQ reporter Lisa DePaulo:

“Did she say she thought they would be headshots?” GQ reporter Lisa DePaulo asked on ABC’s “Good Morning America” Tuesday morning.

“Rielle is a smart woman,” she said. “She knows what she wore and what she was doing in the photo shoot.”

Hunter may claim to Oprah she was “clueless” as how the photos would turn out. Oprah may or may not point out Hunter had contract as “professional” videographer in the latter half of 2006 with Edwards’ political action committee, One America Committee, to follow and film Edwards across the country and to Africa. A great gig which allowed Hunter and Edwards to have fling with Hunter spending her first check to purchase a camera. The camera that was most likely used to film the Hunter-Edwards sex tape which Hunter claims occurred in September of 2006. Ironically, it was a remark Oprah made about the sex tape and John Edwards which earned a Rielle Hunter intellectual tongue lashing in the GQ interview:

Oprah also said on that show that John Edwards must have been out of his mind to make a sex tape while he was running for president, a comment that was picked up all over the Internet. What did you think about that?
That’s such a great question, because Oprah Winfrey, how she thinks and what she says, influences hundreds of thousands of people. First of all, that judgment she has is based on factually incorrect information, and it inspires other people to jump on the bandwagon and have that same judgment. And second, people’s judgments and opinions have only to do with themselves. This has to do with Oprah’s belief systems about sex, about public office, about men. It has all to do with Oprah and has nothing to do with John Edwards.

Hunter is right in that Oprah influences people except there’s a “tad more” than the “hundreds of thousands”. According to demographics, Oprah reaches, daily, an audience of seven million, the majority of whom are white women, 55 and older. A majority of them, wives or ex-wives who have children. Women who may relate more to Elizabeth, age 60, the wife of John Edwards, and not the mistress, Rielle Hunter, 46.

It’d be great if Oprah asked Hunter, the mistress at the center of a political scandal, why Hunter felt the need to portray herself as “sexy” in at least one of the photos? And, “sexy” for whom? The public? John Edwards? Or his wife, Elizabeth? One can imagine Hunter thinking, “These photos will show Elizabeth I’m too sexy for this shirt, so sexy for this shirt!”

In the GQ interview, Hunter went after Elizabeth with a vicious zeal in an attempt to shed the label of home wrecker. Hunter’s attacks on Elizabeth seemed to point to Hunter as the scorned wife and Elizabeth, the hated mistress.
