Jill Zarin: Husband Bobby’s Cancer, Jill Zarin’s Six Degrees of Health Ledger
It’s season three of Real Housewives of New York City season which, according to a source, contains a rift between best buds, Jill Zarin, 46, and Bethenny Frankel. The source claims the fallout was due to Bethenny’s unconcern over Jill’s husband Bobby Zarin’s cancer.

So far we’ve been unable to ascertain what form of cancer Bobby Zarin was diagnosed or Bobby’s current condition. Bobby has been out and about: see photo from October 13,
The August/September edition of Health Monitor featured an article on Zarin and her advocacy for people for arthritis. According to the article, Zarin agreed to be in Real Housewives of New York City for the “very special reason” of helping awareness for arthritis:
But while Jill certainly is a prominent figure on the Hamptons and New York social scenes, attending parties and rubbing shoulders with celebrities like Fran Drescher, Randy Jackson, and Molly Shannon, she agreed to be on the show for a very special reason. She knew that she could use her participation to help raise awareness of a disease that has affected one of the people she loves most. “I did it because my daughter, Allyson, has arthritis, she explains, and I wanted to help others who are affected.”
Also featured in the article, Zarin’s daughter Ally and stepson, Jonathan Zarin. Ally was diagnosed at age 10 with spondyloarthropathy, an inflammatory arthritic disease that affects the joints and ligaments of the spine. Jonathan was diagnosed at age 26 with Still’s disease, a rare form of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis that can affect the internal organs, including the heart. Jonathan, on the day the first season of Real Housewives of NYC aired was rushed to a hospital after suffering flu-like symptoms, agonizing pain, and the belief he was suffering a heart attack which was confirmed by doctors. Initially paramedics believed Jonathan’s heart attack was caused by drugs. Tests were inclusive while Jonathan, after a 24-hour period, went into heart failure.
Jonathan was placed on a heart transplant list while doctors sought to diagnosis his condition then transferred to Columbia Medical Center. Jonathan was eventually diagnosed with Still’s disease, a very rare rare form of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. It was through Jill’s actions Jonathan was placed on the correct form of medication which lead to Jonathan’s improvement.

Jonathan is the son of Bobby Zarin, age 64, Jill’s second husband and owner of the discount fabric emporium in Manhattan, Zarin Fabrics. Together Jill and Bobby run Zarin’s which has been in business since 1938. Jonathan has two other siblings, David and Jennifer Zarin. For photos see this link.
Is there a “six degrees” link between Jill Zarin and the late Heath Ledger?
When looking for info on Jonathan I came across a Page Six article on Heath Ledger’s death by overdose and an “up and coming actor” named Jonathan Zarin:
But up-and-coming actor Jonathan Zarin, an acquaintance of Ledger’s, said he’d been told that the star had been feeling down.
“We heard that he was depressed, but we didn’t think it was to the point where he would do something so drastic. It was out of the blue. He must have been in a bad place,” said Zarin. “He always gave me good advice about acting, he was always the nicest guy.”
Ledger was discovered dead in a rented lower Manhattan apartment on January 22, 2008. What’s interesting to note is that I’ve been unable to find any info relating to an “up and coming actor” named Jonathan Zarin other than the sole news account which included the “Jonathan Zarin, actor” quotes which were then widely published by other media sources. There’s also another mystery of Zarin’s statements to Page Six and whether the NY Post has deep-sixed an article.
On January 23, the day after Ledger’s death, the site PopSquire.com posted Zarin Zaps Hollywood In Heath’s Defense with:
In discussing Heath Ledger’s death with Page Six, actor Jonathan Zarin says: “Everyone in Hollywood experiments with drugs.”
Popsquire’s warning:
Be careful, Mr. Zarin. If you were to substitute ‘everyone’ with specific names, you could find himself involved in a serious lawsuit for defamation unless, of course, your statement was true.
Remember, a defamatory statement generally is an untrue statement of fact that harms someone’s reputation.
The link Popsquire supplied to the original Page Six article ended with “the page is missing” which means Page Six scrubbed the article off the web. One wonders what was in the article, why the article is now missing, and at whose request? The site, Showbizspy posted this:
Actor Jonathan Zarin told website PageSix.com: ‘I was hearing that he was depressed.
I’m sure he must have been in a really bad place. I’d been hearing that for a while.’
There have been reports Ledger had a drug problem and Zarin added: “Everyone in Hollywood experiments with drugs.”
Upon further research the only Jonathan Zarin listed in Manhattan where Ledger resided at the time of his death is Jill Zarin’s stepson while I’ve been unable to find any references on the web of a “Jonathan Zarin” who is an actor.
Less than six degrees is Jill and Bobby Zarin’s friendship with Florida Republican governor Charlie Crist.
