The Bachelor’s Jake the Pilot Takes Flight with 25 Bachelorettes

ABC’s The Bachelor premieres tonight with “Jake the Pilot”, 31-yr-old Jake Pavelka from Dallas, as the single guy who gets to sort through 25 bachelorettes to find his one “true love”. Jake, a commercial airline pilot and former actor, has a unique perspective as a former bachelor on last season’s The Bachelorette who was cast out by Bachelorette Jillian Harris.

Jake starring as the young Sheriff Walker on Walker, Texas Ranger 1999
Jake’s got a couple of acting gigs under his belt-his acting name was Jake Landrum-playing a young Chuck Norris character in a 1999 episode of Walker, Texas Ranger, and 2000′s “The President’s Man“. Jake also did a guest appearance on 2009′s Dancing with the Stars.
Poptower had this on Jake’s family and career in flying:
Fortunate to discover his passion at a young age, Jake Pavelka started taking flying lessons at age 12. An accomplished pilot, Jake Pavelka became an airline captain flight instructor at 23. On his days off, Jake Pavelka has fun flying acrobatic planes, taking dance lessons and woodworking at the home he owns near Dallas. Jake Pavelka’s parents have had a long and happy marriage, and it seems to run in the family, as Jake also has two happily married brothers—older brother Jason and younger brother Matt—and two nieces.
Jake Pavelka grew up in Denton, Texas, and attended University of North Texas and Embry Engineering University for Aerospace Science.

In an ABC The Bachelor interview Jake stated what he was most afraid of:
“I guess what I’m most afraid of is falling in love with more than one girl at the same time.”
And, Jake on his “dream girl”:
“Probably blond, blue-eyed, green, ah…., 5’5″, probably, you know, probably we’d look similar, physically.”
Jake laughed after that remark but there are studies which seem to agree with Jake’s desire to find someone “similar” looking to himself or the same level of attractiveness:
“Men and women tend to choose partners having the same general level of attractiveness, Roberts adds. Statistically, stunners choose stunners, and middling people tend to choose from the center of the spectrum. “Obviously there are a lot of exceptions, but this is the tendency,†she says.”

NPR’s Monkey See written by Linda Holmes called Jake “last season’s really big cheeseball in the line of fire”, and, “one of the corniest cornballs the show has ever husked”. Ouch. Holmes had more with Jake’s “flat good looks of a guy you might find in any good collection of stock photography”, and a “defiantly unobjectionable personality”, a “well-intentioned goober” and a “35 percent Care Bear. He has a heart made of soft cream cheese”.
In the pursuit of fairness we thought we’d supply a photo of Ms. Holmes who seems to have a bit of a fascination describing Jake in terms related to snack food.
