John Edwards and Elizabeth’s Split: Edwards Miffed Elizabeth Checked his Cell Phone

Edwards’ confidante: Couple’s separation due to John tiring of Elizabeth’s “trust” issues

According to an Edwards confidant the real reason why John and Elizabeth Edwards finally separated was due to “trust issues”. Not on the part of John, but on Elizabeth’s actions such as checking John’s cell phone, asking John where he went and asking who he was with.

There’s always another side of the story, and in the case of John Edwards, the National Enquirer has always been spot-on. According to the Enquirer, Edwards has been living in the couple’s seaside vacation home on Figure Eight Island, N.C.. Figure Eight is an exclusive, private island with a security guard stationed at the only access by road. In early January the Enquirer reported Edwards had been caught cheating on Elizabeth at a local bistro:

In a bombshell exclusive interview with The ENQUIRER, bartender Stephanie Breshears revealed that Edwards repeatedly tried to get her to go back to his house for sex. The 34-year-old divorced mother-of-two said Edwards hit on her “for four consecutive nights” at the local Kornerstone Bistro, where she works.

“I think he’s scum,” Stephanie told The ENQUIRER. “He was definitely looking to pick up women when he came in here – and he wanted me to go back to his house.”

Even creepier, according to Stephanie, Edwards told her that she’d caught his eye when he and Elizabeth were on the island back in August. Stephanie said Edwards told her that he was separated but soon to be divorced. According to North Carolina law, couples seeking divorce have to be separated for a year. The Edwards confirmed yesterday they had legally separated.

According to the Enquirer, Elizabeth and John visited John’s lovechild baby Francis Quinn sometime around Christmas in a North Carolina hotel room:

However, Elizabeth showered the child, commonly referred to as Quinn, with Christmas gifts in a North Carolina hotel room.

“She gave it a lot of thought, wrapped up a bunch of Christmas presents, took them to the baby and was so pleased when Quinn made a beeline to the toy carriage and doll,” sister Nancy Anania said.

“She even said to Quinn, ‘Go stand next to Daddy.’ And she took a picture. I don’t know how she could do that. She just has a big heart.”

Depending on the date, John was out scouting for sex either a few days prior to, or after the visit to Frances Quinn. In August, the Enquirer reported Edwards had moved Hunter and Frances Quinn into to a Wilmington home which is in close proximity to Figure Eight Island. On January 24, Edwards released a statement that he was the father of Frances Quinn. At the time the statement was released Edwards had already left for Haiti to help with earthquake relief efforts.

On January 26, excerpts from Edwards’ ex-aide Andrew Young’s book, The Politician” were published in the Wall Street Journal blog.

Shortly after John Edwards and Hunter returned from a trip to Uganda in 2006, Elizabeth Edwards answered a cell phone call to hear Hunter who “launched into a romantic monologue,” Young writes. According to Young’s account, Elizabeth confronted her husband who “confessed to having had a one-night stand but didn’t say with whom.” He called Hunter in front of his wife to end it, but later called her back to say he didn’t mean it.

Edwards traveled to Uganda in the fall of 2006 then posted an account on his Edwards08′ for President website.

An excerpt:

I just returned from a trip to Uganda and wanted to share my experience with you. Uganda is home to one of the greatest unreported humanitarian crises in the world — millions of people have been displaced from their homes and subjected to horrific violence. And with the exception of extraordinary groups, like the International Rescue Committee (IRC), whom I traveled with, most of the world is ignoring this tragedy.

The following is a great quote from Edwards who was speaking directly to Hunter while riding on a corporate jet to yet another campaign stop with Hunter. At the time, Edwards and Hunter were deep into their affair.

Edwards: Do you think most people have any idea what we’re doing when we’re not on the stage? All this-Edwards gestures around the plane-behind… you’ve seen a lot of it. Do you think most normal Americans have any idea of what we do?”

Hunter edited out her answer.
