Wikipedia AGW Bias: Wiki Censor William Connolley Axed
Wikipedia Fires Crazy Left-wing Climate Editor
More on Wikipedia and Connolley – he’s been canned as a Wiki administrator
Wikipedia announced that it has fired its long time climate editor William Connolley, . Connolley,a software engineer and host at RealClimate, a left- wing AGW site that relentlessly punishes AGW skeptics and lavishly praises alarmists, has been found to have changed over 5,000 Wikipedia articles to promote AGW catastrophic speculation.
He has been observed altering history, most prominetly by removing the Medieval Warming Period. But he also has been found to have described the careers and accomplishments of AGW skeptics in the most unflattering way. For background, Lawrence Solomon writes in the National Post:
He rewrote Wikipedia’s articles on global warming, on the greenhouse effect, on the instrumental temperature record, on the urban heat island, on climate models, on global cooling. On Feb. 14, he began to erase the Little Ice Age; on Aug.11, the Medieval Warm Period. In October, he turned his attention to the hockey stick graph. He rewrote articles on the politics of global warming and on the scientists who were skeptical of the band. Richard Lindzen and Fred Singer, two of the world’s most distinguished climate scientists, were among his early targets, followed by others that the band especially hated, such as Willie Soon and Sallie Baliunas of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, authorities on the Medieval Warm Period.
All told, Connolley created or rewrote 5,428 unique Wikipedia articles. His control over Wikipedia was greater still, however, through the role he obtained at Wikipedia as a website administrator, which allowed him to act with virtual impunity. When Connolley didn’t like the subject of a certain article, he removed it — more than 500 articles of various descriptions disappeared at his hand. When he disapproved of the arguments that others were making, he often had them barred — over 2,000 Wikipedia contributors who ran afoul of him found themselves blocked from making further contributions. Acolytes whose writing conformed to Connolley’s global warming views, in contrast, were rewarded with Wikipedia’s blessings. In these ways, Connolley turned Wikipedia into the missionary wing of the global warming movement.
Lawrence Solomon: Wikipedia’s climate doctor

That is what passes for peer review among the Warmists.
Frankly, the fact that Wikipedia is carefully edited by left-wing ideologues has been known for years. There is virtually no area of research that has not been compromised by left wing political theory. Science, history, biographies etc. are frequently edited to propagandize liberal thought. Connolley just happened to be one of the more prolific censors. Because of this his firing comes as a bit of a surprise.
But in response to a complained lodged by Dennis Kuzara , Wikipedia replied as follows:
In September 2009, the Wikipedia Arbitration Committee revoked Mr. Connolley’s administrator status after finding that he misused his administrative privileges while involved in a dispute unrelated to climate warming. This has now been added to his article.
Nobody has replaced him specifically, but there are more than a thousand other administrators with very varied backgrounds.
Mr. Kuzara immediately shared the news with Anthony Watt of the popular site, Watts Up With That.http://wattsupwiththat.
It is disturbing that Wikipedia saw no reason to can this green party member for his climate antics. And while they did not state why he was fired, it would be not out of character to find out that he attempted to smear someone’s reputation. You can read about that nasty habit here. http://network.nationalpost.
Good riddance. But there are many more of his ilk in the wings, who, no doubt will be honored to continue the battle against sanity.

Good blog, lousy colors. White print on a dark background is difficult to read.

Big Bob,
You have a point. Some here have also brought up the same point.
We’re currently trying out a different color scheme on DBKP FLASH Headline News and DBKP Report.
If it looks ok, we may make the changes here sometime in the next couple months.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

way back when the industrial standard was amber text. The choice was scientific.
White on blue may not be the best but red text on black is unreadable by my old eyes.

Actually, Connolley wasn’t “fired,” since its administrators are volunteers. He was relieved of his status as an administrator, or super-editor, last fall. He is still an editor there, and he is still working on entries related to climate change–including the entry on RealClimate, where he has an obvious conflict of interest. He continues to be a prolific editor there.

Hey LMA!
You’re exactly right…”fired” is used as sort of a familiar descriptor here, I believe.
What’s amusing is that after Connolley was relieved of his status, he ran for the Wikipedia Arbitration committee and was soundly defeated. Results are here (oops, can’t find the Wiki link and I’ve been over there for 15 minutes…his final tally was something like -425 or something).
Wiki discussion on Connolley’s Wiki Page here.

Obvious conflict of interest? How so? Do you know what a conflict of interest is?
Let’s say you’re referring to his studies and experience in the field. Are you suggesting that specialists in a field should not edit subjects on Wikipedia that they are an expert in?
Perhaps you’re referring to his being mentioned in the recent “email scandal” regarding climate change. Did you read the letters? His work was mentioned. Hitler mentioned Gandhi in one of his speeches. Does that make Gandhi a Nazi?
Do the world a favor. Check facts that you read with a primary source instead of trusting everything you read.

[...] bad is the coverup? Wikipedia has finally fired its climate editor — after he changed or deleted over 5,000 articles to promote the “global warming” [...]
So actually, Connolley was merely moved out of the spotlight, but is still active at Wiki. And Wikipedia has made zero admission of any kind that anything is wrong with Wiki’s presentations on AGW topics, and zero declaration of intent to restore the corrupted articles to their pre-Connolley state.
This doesn’t sound like a win for Truth, more like Wiki waving a distracting hand while continuing with lying business as usual. Not at all surprising considering where Wiki’s allegiances clearly lie.
I suppose the thing to do now would be to try restoring those 5000 corrupted articles, and see which Wiki editors ride in to re-corrupt them.

I hope you realize that you’ve referenced an article that was written by someone who misunderstands Wikipedia to a laughable extent. I’m sure your readers are enthused at the idea of the debunking of some sort of evil Goliath but sadly, your enthusiasm falls on def ears as I’m sure you’re used to.
I’d explain why you and the article is so incredibly wrong but I think the idea of a conspiracy theory is more fun. Do you really think there’s a cabal of editors that go around trying to hide global warming? Do you think administrators on Wikipedia only edit what they want and have no other responsibilities?
I imagine you and the writer of this article are so bloodthirsty because your ass backwards views on something you have no higher knowledge of are different from the truth. Why don’t you go save the whales or something. I hear that’s cool and rewarding these days.
Have fun!

“I’d explain why you and the article is so incredibly wrong but I think the idea of a conspiracy theory is more fun.”
Zach, what is wrong about the article? Did this guy not edit anything and the author is just wrong? You are horrifically uninformed if you don’t see the irony and stupidity in your own words. There has been a disagreement for years over the Medieval Warm Period and many global warming scientists have claimed it did not exist or that the temperatures in that time period were lower than todays. Furthermore, a climatologist from Penn State made a graph that falsely presented the medieval warm period’s temperature as being relatively flat and unchanging. So yeah, there is a conspiracy to hide climate data.

Zach, I’ve seen you around, you’re sounding very much like an accolyte of something who needs to get a little perspective, and also be a bit less whiny and a bit more respectful (people will talk to you more often)

Zach, here we go again – there’s no place for your attitude in useful discussion. It’s a sad fact, that the internet is very attractive to lots of people who do just as you claim they don’t – they get passionately involved to the exclusion of all reasonableness, and yes, lots of them don’t see that they are being censorious, only that they have power to defend their emotional involvement in “their” topic. Growing up is a work in progress.

Since this article was written, Conolley has been basically dismissed from Wikipedia for personal unfounded personal attacks and engaging in climate disinformation.
