Two American nationals wanted by the US federal authorities have been arrested in the Philippines, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced Saturday.

Floro Balato Jr., BI-Interpol Unit chief, identified the arrested Americans as Jeffry Tye Brown, 49, and Paul Daniel Hogg, 67.

Balato said Brown and Hogg were arrested in Dumaguete City last December 16 and in Cagayan de Oro City on December 17, respectively, by BI-Interpol units.

My God! Do they know that they have no arrest powers? Maybe they didn’t investigate first and that let them off the hook?

Maybe Interpol doesn’t know they’re not supposed to be involved in investigations? From Interpol’s site:

However, arrests and investigations–while the specter is troubling to say the least–was not our biggest concern in the piece above. The fact that information about Americans is off-limits–in America–beyond the FOIA, beyond law enforcement is the most troubling thing, IMO.

Have you never heard of a ‘liason office’? Interpol has no enforcement ability. None. They don’t do investigations. They don’t do arrests.

I guess the following will give Glenn Beck something to discuss for the next week. It seems that Obama has signed an Executive Order that grants Interpol immunity from searches and FOIA requests. Looks like that police force that Obama wants to put out…

Now Interpol can conduct illegal searches against you and me, and can’t be held responsible.
