A roundup of entertaining invective from the Right Blogosphere

Janet Napolitano appeared on the Sunday newsers and reassured viewers that the Nigerian who attempted to blow up NWA 523 on Christmas Day was not an act of man-made overseas contingency because the System would not have allowed that–or something.

From Napolitano: “The system worked”:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up an Amsterdam-Detroit airline flight Christmas Day demonstrated that “the system worked.”

Asked by CNN’s Candy Crowley on “State of the Union” how that could be possible when the young Nigerian who has been charged with trying to set off the bomb was able to smuggle explosive liquid onto the jet, Napolitano responded: “We’re asking the same questions.”

Interesting system Napolitano heads up for sure.

The would-be bomber couldn’t get back into Britain–even though he had gone to school there–so the Brit system worked. The martyr wannabe’s father warned the US about his son, so the Nigerian family system worked. The nutbomber’s name was on a US terrorist watch list–we could have likely identified who had blown up NWA 523 had he been successful–so our intelligence system worked.

He didn’t blow up the plane because of a faulty fuse and the quick action of a passenger and crew, so our “7-come-11, bomber-needs-a-new-pair-of-pants, luck-of-the-angels system worked.

But Napolitano’s system suffered an epic B+.

Because we too lazy to think up more invective and because so many others have written so entertainingly about both the Boob and the Bomber, we’ll list some of the best reactions so far.

Hot Air–Poll: “The system worked”? Update: Rep. King votes … no:

I suppose one can make that argument — if one assumes that the system includes allowing a man included on a watch list onto an airplane, allowing his visa to remain in force even after his own father informs the US that he’s become a radical jihadi, assuming that any explosive said terrorist will smuggle onto the plane will fizzle out, and that only quick thinking by the other passengers on the plane kept the jihadi from trying it again while he barbecued his crotch.

At the time of the writing, Hot Air readers voted 19-8464 that the system worked.

RS McCain called Napolitano’s statement “Further evidence (as if we needed more) that Janet Napolitano is a useless dimwit”.

DBKP’ own LBG had her own hypnotic take: “Look into my eyes…. then repeat after me… “the system worked, the system worked”.…”. And Hallelujah! Janet Napolitano felt safer!

LBG included a BONUS VIDEO of a mesmerizing Muslim Mullah.

Rep. Peter King (R-NY)– Peter King rebukes Napolitano:

“The fact is the system did not work, and we have to find a bipartisan way to fix it. He made it on the plane with explosives and detonated the explosive,” King said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “If that had been successful, the plane would have come down and we would have had a Christmas Day massacre with almost 300 people murdered.”

Don Surber: “President Obama needs to tell Janet Planet four little words: “Merry Christmas, you’re fired.””

Don Surber again:

“Like the president, Janet Napolitano is in over her head.

The system worked? The system failed the day this Bozo-ette was appointed to something with more responsibility than changing bedpans.

Al Qaida sent its love: “Janet, All your ‘system works’ are belong to us”.

Okay, I made that one up.

Jonah Goldberg–Fire Napolitano:

I would wager that not one percent of Americans think the system is “working” when terrorists successfully get bombs onto planes (and succeed in activating them). Probably even fewer think it’s fair that they have to take off their shoes, endure delays and madness while a known Islamic radical — turned in by his own father — can waltz onto a plane (and into the country). DHS had no role whatsoever in assuring that this bomb didn’t go off. By her logic if the bomb had gone off, the system would have “worked” since it has done everything right.

Napolitano has a habit of arguing that DHS is a first responder outfit. Its mission is to deal with “man-caused-disasters” afer they occur. It appears she really believes it. If the White House wants to assure people that it takes the war on terror seriously (a term Robert Gibbs used this morning by the way), they could start by firing this patenly unqualified hack.

Huffington Post had a good reaction by a leftie on President Obama’s non-reaction, but HuffPo took it down. But lots of bloggers commented on it before it disappeared, so Google “Steve Marmel” and “Huffington Post” and readers will find enough to piece it together if they wish.

…”The system worked” is such a fire-breathingly insane and stupid statement to make Napolitano should resign at once. Either she believes this rot, and she’s too stupid and too content with pure luck being America’s defense to keep her job, or she’s the most viciously mendacious liar in the history of history.

And sure, I have no doubts this pap is being pushed by Axelrod, Emmanuel, and of course Captain Wonderful, who didn’t feel like taking a 7 am call about what could have been a coordinated terrorist attack requiring his order for the immediate grounding of all flights.

Delta House coordinated cheating strategy? The system worked.

How do we know that even this dimbo knows that the system did not work? They’re instituting changes to airline screening and in-flight procedures in reaction. If everything were hunky-dory, there’d be no need for that.

This is the Democratic knee-jerk blather, “See, we’re good on national security.” They can’t even bring themselves to admit that it is only an accident of fate that kept the passengers of Northwest Flight 253 alive on Christmas.

And lastly, Michelle Malkin–Clown alert: Janet Napolitano says the “system worked”:

The “system,” like Napolitano, was an epic fail.

And as predicted, Napolitano also played the “lone nut” card — dismissing the Christmas Day jihadist as a single operator not part of “anything larger” despite his own testimony to the contrary.

She’s Obama’s biggest joker. And there’s no Blame-Bush loophole
to weasel through anymore.

If the subject matter weren’t so serious, “The system worked” has a chance to float up there alongside of Obama’s “B+”, Nixon’s “I am not a crook” and Carter’s “killer rabbit” as epic political FAIL statements.

As it is, by Janet Napolitano’s own standard, Americans can all say “the system worked”–right after she’s fired from her Department of Homeland Security post.

We’ll only say that they brought it on themselves. First, Nancy Pelosi and her “draining the swamp” on the way to the “most ethical Congress” droppings. Then Obama, who’s had so many clownlike clueless pronouncements that I’m not going to go Google them right now–that’s a project for when we’ve got 5-6 hours. Then Janet Napolitano and her man-made disasters or whatever it was she called the naked aggression against the USA that we all know as “terrorism”.

This administration worked hard–labored mightily–to sow hubris. And they’re reaping the harvest of their Marxist-tinged, Chicagoland thuggish-ness.

Tar and feathers are too good for ‘em! (And to think we gave them an eight-month long honeymoon!)
