Dresden, Germany: The Largest Picture in the World
Panorama of Dresden Germany “Largest Picture in the World”.
HUGE PANORAMA
We came across this quite by accident and thought it was interesting.
A site in Germany is dedicated to one picture: what is called ‘the largest picture in the world’. And they’re not exaggerating.
From the site:
“The picture was made with the Canon 5D mark II and a 400mm-lens. It consists of 1.665 full format pictures with 21.4 megapixel, which was recorded by a photo-robot in 172 minutes. The converting of 102 GB raw data by a computer with a main memory cache of 48 GB and 16 processors took 94 hours. With a resolution of 297.500 x 87.500 pixel (26 gigapixel) the picture is the largest in the world. (stand December 2009)”
After poking around for awhile, we discovered an amazing zoom feature that allows the visitor to zero in on parts of the panorama by using the middle mouse button or by left-clicking the thumbnails under the panorama.
Readers can also zoom by clicking on the mouse at various points on the panorama.
It’s sort of like Google Earth for a city–but faster and in more detail.
It’s worth checking out. Camera and photo buffs will have a field day.
Actually, anyone could spend some time zooming in and out at various points of the picture. This writers spent some time examining the fine details of statues on faraway buildings.
