Danielle Staub: Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Latest Criminal and Civil Complaints
Danielle Staub, the “real life” convicted felon who plays a “real housewife” on Bravo TV’s Real Housewives of New Jersey seems to have a penchant for drawing herself into both criminal and civil court proceedings as in the past months as Staub was:
-Arrested in April by the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department on a civil complaint,
-In June, filed a lawsuit to halt sex-tape videos,
-In October, had a lawsuit filed against her for “false and defamatory” statements,
- In December, signed criminal complaints against two of her Real Housewives of New Jersey castmates: Jacqueline Laurita and Teresa Giudice, and Jacqueline’s 19-year-old daughter, Ashley Holmes.

Staub, who plead guilty to one charge of extortion in exchange for testifying against her co-defendants in a federal case that involved kidnapping, cocaine, and extortion, was arrested in April by the civil complaint division of the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department on an outstanding Passaic County Superior Court civil action contempt warrant. The warrant stemmed from Staub’s failure to pay a law firm.

Star Magazine has reported that at the beginning of April Danielle Staub was arrested at her Wayne, NJ mansion. Apparently, Danielle has yet to pay her divorce lawyers because her ex-hubby – some exercise equipment manufacturer hasn’t upped her divorce settlement. I don’t know how much Danielle stands to gain in the settlement, but her lawyers fees are in the six figures and they want their money. So, they issued a civil action contempt warrant.
In June, 46-yr-old Staub filed a lawsuit against Steve Zalewski, 27, a former boyfriend whose short-lived romance with Staub was featured in the first season of the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Staub filed the suit in order to halt Zalewski from airing sex tapes that were purportedly shot by Zalewski and starred Staub. Staub claimed the sex tapes were filmed without her knowledge and without her permission.
On July 26, NorthJersey.com reported the suit may have been settled as Staub had “dropped” her suit against Zalewski.
Court officials said Friday that the suit was dismissed, though they were unable to specify why. Attorneys for Staub and Zalewski did not return calls Friday. So, it’s unknown whether a settlement has been reached, and if so, what the terms were.
Staub filed suit last month for invasion of privacy and defamation after Zalewski allegedly videotaped and photographed her having sex with him without her knowledge, and then told Star magazine he may sell the images.
Staub swore under oath that she had no knowledge and never gave permission to be recorded having sex with Zalewski, no less having given her permission to publish such material.
:Update: In an interview with Steve, Steve stated the temporary injunction forbidding Steve to sell the sex tape or any other sexually explicit materials of Danielle expired a little over month later. Steve also stated it was Danielle who had emailed the sex tape and other sexually explicit tapes Danielle filmed of “herself”. Sexually explicit scenes Steve stated Danielle filmed using her cell phone. Steve stated Danielle claimed during testimony in court Steve had “stolen her cellphone”. A claim which was proven to be untrue.
Steve also claimed the whole incident began with an interview he’d done with Star Magazine where he claimed he was mulling over his options in deciding to sell the sex tape in an attempt to recoup some of the money he’d lent to Danielle. Money which Danielle claimed she needed to “buy food for her kids” and “pay the electric bills”. Steve stated that due to Danielle’s testimony during the trial, she and her attorneys dropped the invasion of privacy and defamation suit and that Steve has had no plans to “sell” the sex tapes which are in his possession.
Staub’s break up with Zaleweski was featured on the show, where a tearful Staub “ended the relationship because of their age difference and her need to find someone who could support her and her two children”.
In October, Staub’s ex-husband Kevin Maher filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Staub over “false and defamatory statements,” as well as the “threat” Staub made against Maher on the June 24 RHONJ reunion show.
Star Magazine has a copy of the complaint in which Mayer states Staub, during a People magazine interview, claimed Maher had raped Staub on a “bed of broken glass”, Maher had “inserted” a gun “inside” of Staub and played “Russian Roulette”, Maher had killed Staub’s dog, and that, during the Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion episode, Staub had threatened Maher, that Staub was “going down”.
According to New York Daily News, Staub claimed Maher’s 1995 book “Cop Without a Badge,” where Maher wrote about his relationship with Staub, contained only two true facts: Staub “changed her name” and, that Staub was “arrested”. The Daily News wrote that Staub may have “seriously downplayed” her role in her arrest.
The court papers show Staub – whose name was Beverly Ann Merrill back then – and then-boyfriend Daniel Aguilar were arrested in June 1986 in a kidnapping plot stemming from a cocaine deal gone bad.
She and Aguilar, a dealer for a Colombian drug family, were nabbed for allegedly holding a man for $24,000 ransom.
Unfortunately for Staub, some of her role in her conviction has been laid out in Federal documents obtained by Smoking Gun in “Jersey” Girl’s Sordid Past, Documents detail reality TV star’s drug, escort, snitch, crime record.
The Feds proved Staub, who was working as an escort, made a phone call to the kidnapped man’s father demanding a $25,000 ransom. Staub was caught by the FBI with 6 kilograms in her Florida apartment. Staub copped a deal for one count of extortion in exchange for testifying against her co-conspirator. Part of the plea deal, Staub had to undergo extensive drug rehab, drug testing, and had to stay out of further “trouble”. If Staub got caught in any further drug-related shenanigans, any evidence Staub provided in the exortion case, could, and would be used against her.
On December 3, Staub testified in a New Jersey court alleging Ashley Holmes, 18-yr-old daughter of fellow Real Housewives of New Jersey castmate Jacqueline Laurita had threatened to kill Staub and that Holmes had “attacked” Staub, yanking out one of Staub’s hair extensions. The altercation allegedly occurred November 11 in the parking lot of the Hamburg Turnpike Country Club after a fashion/benefit show. Staub alleged Jacqueline and Teresa Giudice had “ambushed” Staub-who attended the show with a body guard-after Staub left the restroom. Staub claimed the two “pushed” and “scratched” her as she attempted to flee, and that Staub’s high heel was broken.
In the People magazine article, Staub claimed she was molested by “multiple relatives” beginning at age 8:
The way Staub tells it, her survival skills were honed early. Given up for adoption by her 15-year-old Sicilian mother, she was raised in Pennsylvania and says she was sexually abused by multiple relatives: “The memory goes back as far as 8 years old. By 11, I started fighting back.”
And, that Staub was “brutalized” and “terrorized” by ex-husband Kevin Maher:
She “got in with the wrong crowd” as a teen, and then, she says, found work as a leg model for a branch of the Ford modeling agency in Florida—although a Ford Agency spokesperson says the company has no record of her. Of Maher she says, “When I met Kevin it was a dark time for me. I thought he was there to protect me, but he brutalized and terrorized me.”

Another New Yorker who moved to New Jersey…she’s from Brrooklyn. Even though these shows that attempt to depict NJ like the Sopranos, it is a very diverse and great place to live. We are the 3rd most populated state in the USA, so of course there is going to be ALL TYPES OF PEOPLE. But, it is very ignorant of people to sterotype an entire state!!! Obviously people are obsessed with Italians and associating them with the “Soprano” type of family, but in reality it is a small number of our population. I find it funny and mindless entertainment, but I would never sterotype an entire state and neither should anyone else. I am born and raised in NJ and proud of it. There are so many successful famous people and celebrities that were born here or live here now, and guess what?? Its not because its a hole!!

Always the poor innocent VICTIM. It is getting as old and tired as she is. What sewer did Bravo pull this one out of? Talk about trash! She needs to be either locked up or commited for the public safety. Do any officals in NJ see this behavior? Do they really think it is ok, esp with children in her custody? Her thug Danny was on probation and caused a disturbance at the Brownstone, made threats. Isn’t this a violation? Where is his probation officer?? WAKE UP NJ, ARREST THIS WOMAN, PUT HER KIDS IN A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE, AND ARREST DANNY AS A PROBATION VIOLATOR. They will wait till someone is seriously hurt or God forbid killed before they do anything with this woman who has a very long history of violence, lying and harming others. Great system we have.
