World of Warcraft: China Government Pulls Plug on WoW Online Game
China Government Agency Pulls Plug on One Million Chinese World of Warcraft Players

There’s a real world war between two China government agencies over the popular War of Worldcraft online game with one agency suspending its approval Monday night, instructing China’s second largest internet games operator to “power off” its servers, leaving one million Chinese War of Warcraft players out in the ethernet cold.
According to China Daily, the bad guys are China’s General Administration of Press and Publications, GAPP, while the good guys are China’s Ministry of Culture, MOC.
On Monday, GAPP suspended it approval of War of Worldcraft, ordered NetEase.com, China’s second largest internet games operator, to power down their servers and to refuse any new account registrations. Currently there are one million Chinese registered to play the online game.
The Ministry of Culture cried foul, claiming they had received permission from China’s State Council to regulate China’s multi-billion dollar online gaming industry. In June China had 217 million online gamers.
Launched in November of 2004, World of Warcraft has 11.5 million players worldwide, the world’s most subscribed multi-player online game.
