In Britain, Parents No Longer May Watch Children

Sometime ago, DBKP wrote of a ruling in Britain whereby two police women were prohibited from babysitting each other’s child because neither was a licensed sitter.

That decision apparently was so popular that another council decided that it would go a step further.

It would not let parents watch their own children play at the local park.

From Parents banned from watching their children in playgrounds… in case they are paedophiles:

“A council has banned parents from supervising their children in public playgrounds until they have undergone criminal record checks.

Adults have been excluded from two adventure play areas in Watford, apart from a handful of council-vetted ‘play rangers’ who will assist youngsters, it emerged today.

Parents will be forced to watch their children from outside the perimeter fence.

Watford Borough Council claims it is just following Government guidelines and cannot allow adults to walk around playgrounds ‘unchecked’.

But parents are furious that they are all being labelled ‘potential paedophiles’ and branded the ban ‘a joke’.

Mother-of-five Marcella Bergin, 35, said she was disgusted when she heard she would not be allowed to stay in the park with her children.

Mrs Bergin, from Watford, has been visiting one of the playgrounds affected with her three eldest children for many years.”

Council Mayor Dorothy Thornhill said they are merely enforcing government policy at the play areas, in Vicarage Road and Leggatts Way. This takes government intrusion to a level that must make Obama shake with envy. And to think this from a country that is notorious for being lenient on criminals and hard on victims.

It takes it to a new level: punish the victims before the crime has occurred. This type of creative thinking is likely to draw imitators in America and Canada where such is taken for striking social advance.

The full text of the councils statement shows a remarkable degree of benign cruelty and indifference such that it will forever be remembered as a template for bureaucratic response to upset citizenry, likely to be taught in “social science” textbooks in colleges and universities within the English speaking world.

‘Safeguarding the children and young people who use the site is one of our top priorities.

‘There are other places in the town for parents with small children to go.’
