Oprah: 18 Months of Maudlin Tributes, Rumors Oprah Talk Show at Oprah’s New Network
Oprah to move talk show to OWN Network?
Eighteen months of Maudlin Media Oprah Tributes? Someone Call Dr. Phil!

Ever since Oprah announced she had made the decision to end the Oprah Winfrey Show -what was it, 48 hours ago or less?-the press has been phenomenally over-maudlin, with such moronic articles as “What will Oprah’s last guest be?” and, a “look back at some of Oprah’s most famous guests”. You’d think that Oprah had announced that she was ending her talk show next week, next month, or, the end of this season. What’s extraordinary about this whole “shedding tears” episode is that Oprah announced she was ending the show in 18 months, and, that Oprah failed to inform her fans that, after The Oprah Winfrey Show ends, she may start a talk show on her new OWN Network.
From Newsone.com:
The industry has been betting that the daytime diva would extend The Oprah Winfrey Show for at least another year or two because of the huge cash license fees which stations have long paid her. But people around Oprah are telling me that won’t happen. They say that Discovery Communications chief David Zaslav has demanded that Oprah “move it or lose it†— move her talk show to OWN, or risk losing the Oprah Winfrey Network altogether.
I’ve learned that in coming days Winfrey and Discovery will issue a press release announcing OWN’s on-air launch for the start of 2011. And, in several weeks, Oprah will tell the public that she’s ending her syndicated Chicago-based daytime talk show when her current deal runs out and moving it to OWN headquarters in Los Angeles probably as soon as mid-2011.
If this article holds true, that Oprah intends to move her talk show to her OWN Network, beginning in mid-2011, which just happens to be around the “18 month” mark Oprah announced to fans, then Oprah had better come clean, fairly quick. Otherwise fans will learn they’ve been “partially” had, that the woman they thought was leaving talk shows behind, was merely packing her bags and moving to a new “talk show” home that she, herself, owned. And, that fans, and the public, had been forced to endure an 18-month media “grief” march much like the first time Brett Favre “retired”, where fans were bombarded during NFL broadcast games with endless Brett Favre tributes while Favre still played.
In Favre’s case, he may have actually believed he was truly retiring, you know, the first, or second time he “retired”. In Oprah’s case, Oprah announced she was “ending” her talk show in 18 months, leaving fans with the impression that their beloved Oprah was moving on, and away from being a talk show hostess. Oprah’s announcement has resulted in a tremendous outpouring of “tributes” from the media and fans. The type of tributes which one normally would see if Oprah’s career as talk show queen had truly ended.
Truly phenomenal, the fact that Oprah’s talk show won’t end for 18 months. Eighteen long months of Oprah “goodbyes” and tributes. Even Oprah, whose had numerous shows on grief, knows that 18 months of non-stop tributes is both exhaustive, and, abnormal behavior. And. that Oprah should know that if she intends to start up a new talk show on her new network without telling her fans and allowing the massive maudlin tributes to continue, that some fans, including yours truly, will feel as if they’ve been “had”.
