Casey Anthony Case: Meter Reader in, Mysterious Nanny Out as Defense Prime Suspect in Caylee’s Death?
Casey Anthony Defense and Reasonable Doubt: Why We Doubt the “Meter Reader Did It” Won’t Work
Casey Anthony Team Discovers it’s Far Easier to Paint Real Person Roy Kronk a Suspect, Than Made-Up Suspect Nanny Zenaida Gonzales
First, it was the mysterious nanny, a woman named Zenaida Gonzales who purportedly babysat Orlando, Florida toddler Caylee Anthony while her mother Casey worked at Universal and whom Casey claimed had “kidnapped” Caylee. Almost a year after Caylee’s remains were discovered a 1/2 mile from the Anthony family home, Casey Anthony’s defense team has a new “suspect” in Caylee’s death: meter reader Roy Kronk, the man who discovered Caylee’s remains.
According to Casey Anthony’s attorneys the man who discovered Caylee Anthony’s remains is as “much a suspect” in Caylee’s death as her mother Casey.
From the Orlando Sentinel:
“Casey Anthony’s lawyers on NBC’s Today Show this morning said former meter reader Roy Kronk is as much a suspect in Caylee Marie’s death as their own client, Casey Anthony.
“There is as much circumstantial evidence implicating Roy Kronk as there is implicating our client,” said Andrea Lyon, one of Anthony’s defense attorneys, to Today’s host Matt Lauer. “He’s the only one who’s been with the body. He’s the only one who magically discovers it. He takes a day off before he discovers it in December.”
The latest news is from the National Enquirer whom we’ve found, when writing on the John Edwards affair and Love Child, to be a highly reliable source.
According the Enquirer, the intrepid Casey Anthony defense team has turned up other “details” on Kronk which should give jurors “enough reasonable doubt” as to Casey Anthony’s guilt in the death of her daughter. “Evidence” which comes from “witnesses”: Kronk’s ex-wife’s wives, and a long time live-in girlfriend’s daughter. “Evidence” of one wife accusing Kronk of using duct tape after he allegedly attacked her to “hold her against her will”. “Evidence” that Kronk would walk into his girlfriend’s daughter’s room-age 11 at the time-when the girl was changing clothes.
Based upon an Enquirer story it looks like the Casey Anthony team has a “ready-made suspect” in Roy Kronk, versus the “elusive” nanny, Zenaida Gonzales. So far, the “nanny” hasn’t been found, not by the police, or by Casey Anthony’s high profile legal team. What they have found: a “ready made suspect” in meter reader Roy Kronk. A “suspect” whom the defense may try to paint as having “proclivities” for “tying down” women with duct tape and acting inappropriately with young girls.
Casey Anthony’s First “Suspect” Elusive Nanny Zenaida Gonzales
When confronted by her mother, brother, and the police on July 15, 2008, Casey Anthony told everyone that Caylee had been missing for a month and that Caylee had been “taken” by her nanny, a woman Casey claimed was named Zenaida Gonzales. According to Casey, Caylee had been “kidnapped” by the nanny, while Casey had spent the past month “frantically searching” for her small daughter.
Police investigators have circumstantial evidence that Casey Anthony lied, not only to them, but to her family and friends that she had a job. When Casey told her family she was at work, she was hanging out with friends. Witnesses claim Casey told them she had a job at Universal that allowed her to “work” away from her office. During the time period Casey Anthony told investigators she was “searching for Caylee”, Casey Anthony told friends Caylee was with the nanny at Disney World and Universal. The nanny’s “address” Casey gave to investigators, the address Casey claimed she “left” Casey with the nanny on the day Caylee “disappeared”, turned out to be an apartment which had been vacant for months. Even though, one by one, the authorities punched huge holes in Casey’s story about the nanny, that Casey didn’t have a job, didn’t have money to pay for nanny, and no one other than Casey had “met” or “seen” the nanny, Casey continued to claim Caylee was “kidnapped” by the nanny. And, that Casey had spent the 30 days Caylee was “missing”, “searching” for her daughter because she “feared” what would “happen” if she contacted the police. Not only did Casey not contact the police, she didn’t tell her family or friends. It wasn’t until July 15, when her mother Cindy Anthony, worried that she hadn’t seen Caylee for almost a month, contacted the authorities, that Casey’s story, of Caylee being “kidnapped”, emerged.
While we’ve yet to hear the defense “officially” drop the “nanny” as a suspect, it’s apparent the defense is now focused on meter reader Roy Kronk, an actual person, not the “illusive” nanny. While Kronk is now “fair game” as a potential “suspect”, at least to Casey Anthony and her defense team, her defense team hasn’t publicly focused on the “nanny” for months. Even so, once the trial gets underway, and the prosecution begins its case, the focus will once more be on Casey’s story, who pointed to the “nanny” as the prime suspect.
The circumstances surrounding the discovery of Caylee’s remains and Kronk were highly unusual in that Kronk reported seeing something suspicious in the area in August.
From WFTV:
Kronk came onto the scene as a hero who followed a hunch to the first patch of woods around the corner from Caylee Anthony’s grandparent’s house on Suburban Drive. Kronk told investigators almost one year ago, when he found Caylee’s remains in the woods, that he believes he was in the exact same spot in August, which is when he called investigators the first time. However, in August, the responding deputy never went to the exact spot where Caylee’s body was and, partly because of that, Deputy Richard Cain was fired.
While the defense can claim Kronk contacted the authorities in August claiming to have seen something “suspicious” in the same area, the defense cannot prove what Kronk “saw” was in fact, Caylee’s remains.
On November 19, Kronk was questioned under oath “all day” by Casey’s attorneys.
According to WFTV, the defense has made “unsubstantiated claims” that Caylee’s body was placed in the woods after October 14, 2008 when Casey was locked up in jail. There’s also been talk of Kronk planting Caylee’s remains a half a mile from the Anthony home in order to “frame” Casey Anthony for the murder of her daughter. In order for the defense to prove Casey Anthony was “framed” by Kronk, the defense would have to prove how Caylee got from Point A-the last time a witness other than Casey saw Caylee alive on June 16, 2008, to Point B: When Kronk discovered Caylee’s remains in December.
The defense would have to:
1. Prove the existence of the nanny, and,
2. Prove the nanny actually had Caylee as her mother claimed and,
3. Find a “tie” between the “nanny” and Roy Kronk,
4. Prove Kronk had Caylee, and/or, Kronk placed Caylee’s remains in the woods.
5. Get the jury to disregard the vast amount of lies told by their client, Casey Anthony.
The defense would have to discredit the large amount of circumstantial forensic evidence which began to mount when Casey’s mother Cindy Anthony dialed 911 on July 15 and told the 911 operator that her daughter’s car “smelled like there’s been a dead body in it”.
From ABC News:
“The car driven by the mother of missing Florida 2-year-old Caylee Anthony smelled “like there’s been a dead body” in it, according to a 911 call made by the child’s grandmother last week.”
Forensic evidence which showed the detection of the odor of human decomposition in Casey’s car plus the presence of human decomposition fluids. Casey’s car was impounded on July 15. The same day, Casey Anthony claimed to investigators that, the day before, she’d received a “phone call” from her toddler daughter. Investigators, looking at Casey’s cell phone records, were unable to find any calls which would have backed up Casey’s claim.
