Boy Suffers Serious Burns at Japanese Steakhouse in Washington State
This article caught our eye in that we wondered how a seven-yr-old boy suffered “serious” burns to his hands and face while dining at restaurant, as the headline read “Boy suffers burns to face at restaurant”. When we read what type of restaurant, a Japanese Steakhouse, some of the pieces to “how he might have been burned”, fell into place. But not all the “pieces” were given, as the article gave few “details” on how this incident occurred:
“Lacey Fire Chief Jim Broman said paramedics were dispatched to the restaurant in the 7900 block of Martin Way at 6:05 p.m. Sunday and treated the boy at the scene. He was then taken by ambulance to the hospital, he said.
Broman said it was his understanding that the boy’s burns were serious.
A witness who notified The Olympian after the incident said the fire occurred in a dining area, injuring the child, a second boy who was not taken to the hospital, and a chef who was preparing food at a table.”
The incident occurred at Fuji’s Steakhouse in Lacey, Washington. Fuji lists itself as an “authentic Japanese teppanyaki” style restaurant. In North America, teppanyaki means where food is seasoned and grilled “before your eyes”. Japanese teppanyaki-sytle steakhouses were made famous by Benihana, who opened its first restaurant in New York in 1964.

In regards to the little boy who was burned, there’s no info as to how he got his burns, nothing on whether he climbed up on the table where the grill was located, or, whether he was safely in his seat when the incident occurred.
