- MORE PROOF THAT RINOs ARE CLOSER TO DEMS THAN REPUBLICANS: HOFFMAN CALLS SCOZZAFAVA A ‘TURNCOAT’.
Dede Scozzafava throws her ‘support’ to Democrat Bill Owens in the NY-23 race. Republicans can only hope that she’ll be as effective campaigning for Owens as she was for herself.Chuck Schumer and Rahm Emanuel called the now-defunct campaign of Scozzafava to urge her to endorse the Democrat. As Scozzafava is still a NY Republican pol, perhaps this is only a premonition of the Dede-yet-to-come.
MORE: The Real Story.
ANALYSIS: Scozzafava endorses Democrat in NY-23. This last is both accurate and correct. That’s the labels we stick on any and all analysis with which we agree.
AND: How Scozzafava repays NRCC and RNC
The latest action by Dede Scozzafava is one reason so many conservatives refused to support her. Glenn Reynolds wonders if the RNC will be able to get their $900,000 Scozzafava investment back? “Like I say, you can’t sue politicians for breach of warranty the way you can sue businesses. If you could, politicians would have to be more trustworthy.”

California to withhold a bigger chunk of paychecks.
The state of California hits workers for an extra 10% of their paychecks and sez: “We’re hit you back later, dude!”
Even the LA Times gets it: “The amount goes up 10% on Sunday as Sacramento borrows from taxpayers. Technically, it’s not an income tax increase: You’ll get the money back eventually.”
…As in a no-interest loan to the state.
Of course, the state handed out IOUs for awhile in 2009, so California taxpayers looking for another reason to flee the “Golden State” have one. California’s increasingly “golden” only if you’re a state employee. - WHO’S ON TOP? Daily scoreboard

This is one of many examples illustrating why one-on-one handouts between governments and businesses are bad for taxpayers, and in the long run, bad for the businesses themselves. Once the luster of the handout runs out, the business will scramble for another, and another, and so on. Better to build a strong business climate across-the-board, which is good for large and small companies alike.
Washington’s competitiveness, from a labor standpoint, is dismal. Other states should take note. South Carolina is a right-to-work state, meaning workers do not have to be members of a union as a condition of employment. Workers at the South Carolina plant where Boeing plans to locate its second 787 line recently voted to remove the union from the plant—an unlikely feat in Washington given our current labor laws and the history of organized labor in this state.
Political hacks keep asserting that “we have to build more in the US”. Then, they pass more laws making that a more unlikely scenario. It’s one consequence of electing politicians who don’t have the foggiest about running a business.

It’s obvious that those who watch are going to have trouble monitoring this many people. In the meantime, many who are not terrorists will have to explain why they’re on this list. 1600 names suggested a day? Why not change the Watch List to “Popular Terrorist” and make it into a magazine format?
[h/t: Powell Gammill, Freedom's Phoenix] - FROM the EMAIL BOX: Census Change Will Cost California Five House Seats.
Uhhh, that’s if the Senate votes to only include citizens, as per the Constitution, in the census results.
Newsmax: “A proposal from Republican Sen. David Vitter to count only U.S. citizens and not illegal aliens in the 2010 census would cost California five congressional seats, a new analysis of census data reveals. The Constitution requires that congressional districts be reapportioned every 10 years based on a count of the “persons” in each state. The 2010 census form does not ask about citizenship.
Vitter’s proposal would ban federal financing for the census if a citizenship question is not included. The Louisiana lawmaker argues that counting noncitizens would “artificially increase the population count” in states with large numbers of illegal aliens, and thereby give those states larger congressional delegations than they deserve.
An analysis by demographers at Queens College of the City University of New York found that not counting illegals would cost California five seats, and New York and Illinois one seat each.
Vitter’s proposal would enable Louisiana, Iowa, Michigan and Pennsylvania to avoid the expected loss of one seat, while Montana, North Carolina, Indiana, Oregon and South Carolina would each gain a seat, The New York Times reported.
If all residents are counted in 2010, Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada and Utah would gain one seat and Texas would get three. Under Vitter’s proposal, Texas would gain only one seat, the analysis found.
Vitter said in mid-October that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wants illegals to be counted so that left-leaning states with large numbers of undocumented aliens will gain seats, according to The Hill newspaper.
Illegals counted in the 2000 census gave California up to five additional seats in Congress, according to Vitter, who said: “Basically states with large illegal populations, starting with California, are rewarded and other states are penalized.”
