White House: Congress Cannot Meet with Obama Czars
WHITE HOUSE SAYS “NYET” TO CONGRESS MEET-UP WITH CZARS
During the 2008 campaign Barack Obama promised the “most transparent administration–ever”!
Just in case anyone hadn’t heard Obama’s promise, four days after the election, that promise was again made by John Podesta, the Obama transition captain.
“Transition captain John Podesta reiterated the point Tuesday when he said Obama’s would be “the most open and transparent transition in history.”

So now Congress wants to talk to the many “czar” positions created by President Obama. These are people who have a hand in making administration policy and Congress wants to exercise some of its oversight responsibility.
White House counsel Greg Craig today told Congress, “Nyet”.

Bush created five new czar positions in five years. Obama created 17 new czar positions in 8 months, only one of which needed Senate confirmation and has Congressional oversight. These are essentially end runs around Congressional oversight. The Obama administration denied this earlier this year, but their response to both Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill leaves little doubt on the matter. Obama wants to create and implement policy in secret, and doesn’t want his czars having to testify before Congress on what they do.
Even Democrats in Congress won’t take kindly to this bitchslap by Obama. The president will need some help in ushering more regulations, taxes and transformative changes through Congress, and some Democrat Senators know that doing so will cause heartburn among folks back home.
A battle would seem to be brewing on the horizon…
