Pawlenty’s Charlie Gibson Moment: Pawlenty Votes Present on NY 23

PAWLENTY ON NY 23: “PRESENT”
Asked to comment on the NY 23 congressional race between Republican Party party boss-endorsed Dede Scozzafava–who’s sinking like a Led Zeppelin in the polls–and Conservative Doug Hoffman, Tim Pawlenty has had a Charlie Gibson moment and has lost at least one potential supporter for his 2012 ambitions.
From Pawlenty on Hoffman:
“I haven’t been following that,” Pawlenty said of the contest. “I haven’t studied the race at all. It’s not that I would or wouldn’t [endorse Scozzafava], I just don’t know anything about it.”
Sounds like ABC’s Charlie Gibson, when asked about what he thought of the ACORN child prostitution scandal. Maybe Pawlenty really is uninformed, but maybe he is hinting at a Pawlenty-Gibson ticket?
Conservatives should mark this down as the Minnesota governor trying to vote “Present”….
…and that hasn’t worked out too well for either the present occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue or the country.
We’ve always viewed Pawlenty favorably, BUT…
…How tired of politicians, weasel words and careful parsing is the country going to be by 2012?
This writer is sick of it in 2009.
Either lead, follow or get out of the way.
Tim Pawlenty should either take a stand. Or take a seat.
UPDATE @ 1515 10-23-09: Uh oh. Looks like Scozzafava Declares Herself Part of Abramoff Wing of GOP: Funnels Campaign Cash to Family.
Red State’s Erick Erickson has uncovered some suspicious-looking shell-shifting–and that’s coming before Scozzafava is even in Congress. It involves money paid to family members–voila!–right after the Republican National CC gave Dede a big infusion of cash.
Maybe it’s nothing. And maybe, it’s another symptom of why the RNCC has some problems. Nominating John McCain-like RINOs is one of them. RINOs by nature don’t have nearly as many principles to stand on as conservatives.
UPDATE @ 2025 10-23-09: Hot Air is stating that Scozza-mentum: T-Paw may endorse Hoffman.
Soon as the Minnesota can get his finger out of the wind.
