Obama As Nixon: Enemies List First Appeared in Campaign

[ABOVE: Remember this enemies list, titled "Smears, Inc" from Obama's Fightthesmears.com?]
“What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon — that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize.“
– Barack Obama, June 3, 2008

OBAMA ENEMIES LIST NOTHING NEW
FIGHT THE IMAGINED “SMEARS” with REAL SMEARS
Before Fox News and Glenn Beck, there was Floyd Brown and Bob Perry.
This White House has had plenty of practice compiling lists of those it sees as “enemies”, and then going public with it. The Nixonian practice started over a year ago.
Hark back to July 2008. That was when the above image made its debut on Barack Obama’s ironically-named campaign website fightthesmears.com. DBKP wrote about it in Smear, Inc: Obama Enemy List Published on FighttheSmears.com
As we wrote last July:
By tagging conservative activists as part of a “smearâ€, Obama has re-defined the word to mean “those who do not agree with youâ€. Obama’s site doesn’t say that the activities the activists are engaged in are illegal , immoral (to anyone other than rabid liberals) or untrue–it just implies it.
The original article can be seen at Behind the Smears.
In case it disappears–as these things have a disturbing habit of doing–a screenshot is provided below.

What’s truly Orwellian about the matter is the quote at the top of the page–a page that began the enemies list before candidate Obama had even entered the White House.
“What you won’t hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon — that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize.“
How’s that pledge working out for now-president Obama 15 months later? From Excuses wearing thin for Obama, media pals
The MSNBC blast against the chamber appears to dovetail with what the Politico newspaper reports is a White House and Democratic effort “to marginalize” the business organization. That echoes the administration assault on the Fox News Channel: It says Fox isn’t a news organization.
The White House trying to dictate who’s a news organization. Democrats out to gut a business group. Obama media allies damning Americans as racist, unpatriotic and treasonous. Is this the America Obama promised when he campaigned to end the cynical and divisive politics of the past?
“Marginalizing” and making an “enemies list”.
Not the activities of the Great Healer brand that Obama’s campaign pushed during the run-up to the 2008 election.
It should have been easy enough to see–and it was for some.
For a look at who’s made the White House list today, David Limbaugh gives a comprehensive breakdown: With Fox, Obama’s Enemies List Grows.
A candidate that proclaims at the top of a campaign website that he won’t “demonize” his opponents–and then posts an enemies list on the same page has no shame–or sense of irony.
The talk lately of “enemies lists” and “Nixonian tactics” shouldn’t surprise those who noticed the Obama July 2008 list of people who didn’t agree with the campaign.
Of course, with Dinosaur Media not reporting, most voters didn’t know about it then.
They’re only finding out about the candidate, his associates and his tactics now–when they turn on their TVs and see David Axelrod, Anita Dunn and Rahm Emanuel launch the latest broadsides.
Today’s target: People’s Enemy #1, Fox News.
One suspects Fox won’t be the last one to make a White House list before this administration is over.
