British Child Protection Services Seizes Newborn, Six Kids: Fat Mum “Endangering” Kids
Newborn to be Seized after Scottish City Council Deems 17-yr-old Mother “Not Intelligent” Enough to be Married
If you happen to believe that the government “knows best” on raising healthy kids then the following stories from the U.K. will brighten your day. Twenty-eight hours after giving birth to a daughter, British Social Services removed the newborn from the mother due to “fears” the baby would become “clinically obese”. The same fate awaits the woman’s other six children who are also slated to be removed from their home.
According to the Daily Mail, child protection papers were served against the mother, who weighs 23 “st”, or 322 pounds. The weight of three of her children were reported in the Daily Mail: a toddler who weighed 56 pounds, a 13-yr-old son who weighed 224 pounds, and an 11-yr-old who weighed 168 pounds.
This whole debacle began when the family asked social services for help with their 3-yr-old daughter who had developmental problems. According to the Daily Mail, social workers were “shocked” when they visited the home and “discovered” the couple’s children were overweight. The couple was then threatened they’d lose their kids unless they took steps to help their children lose weight. “Private minders” were hired by the local city council in June to ensure the family wasn’t “overeating” while the mother stated she “didn’t even own a deep-fat fryer”.
The newborn was removed from the family a little over 24-hours after delivery while social workers asked the mother to “stay” in the hospital “another day”. The mother, devastated her newborn was taken from her, declined.
In a second cautionary tale, U.K. social services ruled a 17-yr-old pregnant girl with mild learning difficulties will have to give up her baby at birth because the girl “didn’t understand the implications of getting married”.
According to the Telegraph, the girl and the baby’s father, an artist, were in the processing of getting married-the wedding was in less than 48 hours-when the Scottish registrar refused to marry the couple after the local city council waged objections over the girl’s “mental capacity”. Two days before the wedding social workers visited the couple and told them the marriage would be “illegal” because the woman’s “learning difficulties”. According to the groom, the social workers grossly exaggerated the claim as the young woman planned to “return to college” to “catch up academically”. The woman, who is 26 weeks pregnant, was told she’d have to give up her baby at birth as she is “incapable of raising her own child”.
