Hoffman Surges, Obama War on Coal: Morning Intell

Morning Intell:: Tuesday October 27, 2009
- HOFFMAN RISING: Hoffman Surges Into Lead in NY-23.
“New CFG Poll shows Hoffman 31.3%, Owens 27.0%, Scozzafava 19.7%”Since the sample was small (300 likely voters), the MoE is 5.6%, but still, this has to be encouraging to conservatives and “Curses, Foiled again!” time for the RINO “what the heck do we care what they stand for, long as they have an ‘R’ behind their name” mentality at the RNC.

…you never know. - CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: Decline is a choice. But is it America’s choice?.
Demonstrators are shot in the streets of Tehran seeking nothing but freedom, but our president holds his tongue because, he says openly, of our own alleged transgressions towards Iran (presumably involvement in the 1953 coup). Our shortcomings are so grave, and our offenses both domestic and international so serious, that we lack the moral ground on which to justify hegemony.
These fundamental tenets of the New Liberalism are not just theory. They have strategic consequences. Thus, for example, there is no more “Global War on Terror.” It’s not just that the term has been abolished or that the secretary of homeland security refers to terrorism as “man-caused disasters.” It is that the very idea of our nation and civilization being engaged in a global mortal struggle with jihadism has been retired as well.
As always, CK’s points are hard to argue against. Part 2 is up tomorrow.

More evidence that Team Obama doesn’t care about much about anything except Team Obama: that includes Americans, foreign policy and other Democrat candidates.
- ALLAHPUNDIT CAN’T ABIDE BECK; MAKES THE CASE FOR RINO-WORSHIP: Video: Glenn Beck goes all in for Doug Hoffman — and third parties.
Hot Air’s AllahP recycles the argument about conservatives sitting down and shutting up when the Repubs back liberal weenies. One crushing defeat away from total victory, in perpetuity. A question for Beck fans, borrowing a line uttered here by the man himself: What is the endgame? There’s a sense I get from watching Beck that he thinks there’s a supermajority out there willing to return to Founders-style libertarianism if only he and other conservatives hammer the message hard and long enough. I don’t think there is. And if I’m right that there’ll always be at least 40 votes or so in the Senate and 45 percent among the population for progressivism, how does he presume to enact the libertarian agenda while confronting the realities of congressional compromise?

“But make no mistake: this debate must be held and now’s as good a time as any. It’s past time for conservatives/libertarians to stop apologizing for standing on principle.
Exactly when is the right time for conservatives to open a can of New! Improved! STFU?”
- JAY LENO: “China has accused Google of copyright infringement claiming Google scanned hundreds of Chinese authors’ work for Google’s digital library without their permission. China is so upset they’ve threatened to stop using Google to illegally download American movies and CDs.”
- OBAMA’S WAR on COAL: War on coal .
EPA vetoes an already-granted permit for new WV coal mine.
But Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV, West Virginia Democrat, who also backed the Obama presidential bid, is outraged that the EPA is revoking a permit in his state. “I am angry with the EPA’s announcement that they will use veto power to revoke the authorized Spruce Mine permit in Logan,” he said. “It is wrong and unfair for the EPA to change the rules for a permit that is already active.”
The West Virginia-based Register Herald was equally harsh. “Coal is under attack by the Obama administration,” an Oct. 4 editorial said. “And now, even those who supported the Obama-Biden ticket in 2008 have come to that realization.”
Obama said in the campaign he would “bankrupt” those who want to use coal for energy. Killing coal mines is just a lot quicker way to bring this about.
During the campaign, coal miners were sold down the river by their union leadership: the UMWA supported Obama, even after he said he’d “bankrupt” coal. That union bosses would support Obama, regardless of the consequences to their membership is no surprise. The only surprise is that the membership would support these stooges.

- PRETTY INTERESTING STUFF: So, You Don’t Believe in Prophecy?
In Tanach (the Jewish Bible), it speaks about the Nations of the North assembling and descending upon Israel in a conquest of savage killing. In the Prophecy the attacking Nations from the North succeed in occupying, first the lowlands along the sea and then they begin to ascend the foothills toward Jerusalem.
…
I keep my eyes and ears on articles and reports from military journals. I carefully watch the Nations as the world agonizes, desperate to blame someone/anyone for their pain. Several years ago I noticed a small mention in U.S. Defense News, that the E.U. (European Union) was discussing a Rapid Deployment Force which they didn’t have and didn’t want to spend the money to build. It was ‘mentioned’ that they might approach NATO – which was primarily American supplied and manned, to be that Force.Something to keep an eye out for…

At this juncture, it’s almost embarrassing to admit that Newt was a candidate this writer considered as a possibility for 2012.
