Vanity Fair Palin Piece Highlights Palin’s Threat to the Left

Levi Johnston: Cash for Bashing Palin, Tool for Vanity Fair

Today’s LA Times cited the recent Vanity Fair Sarah Palin hit piece, “Me and Mrs. Palin”.

From the LA Times:

“If former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin thought John McCain’s staffers stabbed her in the back when they tried to blame her for his loss last November, one can only imagine what she thinks these days about Levi Johnston, the father of her grandchild.

Johnston, who is weighing the many “celebrity” career options now coming his way thanks to the meteoric rise of his former mother-out-of-law, is in sharper-than-a serpent’s-tooth mode in the October issue of Vanity Fair, where he — how to put this delicately? — rips Palin a new one for what he perceives as her personal failings. The magazine said it paid him an author fee, since the story is in his own words.”

Levi claimed that Palin offered to adopt daughter Bristol and Johnston’s daughter. Imagine that, a mother offering to adopt her unwed 17-yr-old’s daughter? Too bad Johnston wasn’t shrewd enough to claim that Palin hadn’t, instead, offered to pay for an abortion. Even so, there was one quote attributed to Johnston that Palin should hire an attorney and sue Johnston for slander.

Here it is, from the Times, via Vanity Fair:

“Palin, he says, paid more attention to Bristol and Levi’s baby, Tripp, than she did to her own baby, Trig, who was born with Down syndrome and became a symbol of hope for parents of special-needs children during the campaign. Says Johnston: “I couldn’t believe it when she would come over to us and sometimes say, playing around, ‘No, I don’t want the retarded baby — I want the other one’ and pick up Tripp. That was just her, even her kids were used to it.”

“I don’t want the retarded baby…”

Here’s why I believe Palin never spoke this way about baby Trig. Palin opted to keep Trig even though, while pregnant, she was informed her baby had Down Syndrome and could have opted to have an abortion. When Trig was born, Sarah issued this statement:

“Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed.”

Nasty cynics claimed Palin used Trig. Nasty cynics, most likely, facing the same situation, would have aborted him, and thus, cannot comprehend Palin’s love for baby Trig. If Sarah despised her baby, she wouldn’t have issued that statement. It wouldn’t have even occurred to her. The statement seems more in keeping with Levi Johnston’s “values” than Sarah Palin’s.

Levi Johnston, as a father, has shown less than sterling qualities: taking cash for bashing the grandmother of his child instead of finding “work” that didn’t involve getting paid for trashing his child’s family. Not once, but several times. Easy pay for a young man who “could have been a star hockey player”. He’s a player alright. He’s played right into the hands of those seeking to destroy any future political career of Palin.

One has to question the motives of Levi Johnston. According to those who hate Palin, Levi’s rant was “payback” for Palin forcing him to cut off his mullet, then be paraded before the nation at the Republican convention.

Johnston was paid for the Vanity Fair interview. Imagine how much interest VF would have had if Johnston were unable to come up with the “good stuff” on Palin? How about, less than zero.

What’s truly been interesting is the amount of vitriol still leveled at Palin. During the election, intrepid journalists descended upon Palin’s tiny Wasilla, Alaska, in droves to dig through her trash and they’re still trying to trash Palin, with Levi Johnston, a “witting” pawn. This isn’t the first time “elite” journalists or writers have aimed their poisoned pens at conservatives. Just ask Ronald Reagan’s daughter, Patti Davis.

In 2003, TIME published an article written by Patti on the upcoming CBS “The Reagans”.

Here’s a few excerpts:

“According to the screenplay for The Reagans, my father is a homophobic Bible-thumper who loudly insisted that his son wasn’t gay when Ron took up ballet, and who in a particularly scathing scene told my mother that AIDS patients deserved their fate. They who live in sin shall die in sin, the writers and producers had him say.”

Look familiar? It should as it is right out of Liberal Trashing Conservatives They Fear Playbook 101.

More from Patti:

“CBS execs say the line about AIDS victims has now been deleted. I asked Bert Fields, one of America’s best known entertainment attorneys, who is not my lawyer but is a friend, to call CBS head Les Moonves and point out how painful the line was. My mother, through her attorney Ira Revitch, also wrote to Mr. Moonves asking for its removal. Not only did my father never say such a thing, he never would have.”

“Consider the scene in a girls’ boarding school I supposedly was attending when my father was elected governor of California (I was never at an all-girls’ boarding school.) They have a classmate saying to me, “Hitler’s just been elected governor.” No one writes a line like that with any other agenda except to wound. Later in the script, Don Regan refers to my mother as “Madame Fuhrer.” I’m quite sure he never did, but the feelings of those behind this project is made clear. Anger and vitriol always leak through if you’re a writer with those demons inside you.”

Patti had this to say about the of the script, the same type of script being written about Palin:

“But the idiocy of the script can’t dilute the cruelty behind it. To deliberately and calculatingly depict public people as shallow, intolerant, cold and inept, with no truths or facts to back up the portrayals, is nothing short of malevolent. Many of the people depicted in the script are dead — Lew Wasserman, my sister Maureen, my grandparents, Don Regan. They can say nothing about their portrayals. And my father, obviously, cannot correct the lies told about him.”

Liberals couldn’t attack Palin on her record but they could use the same tactics as the writer of the Reagan script, the producers, and CBS. Tactics such as depicting Palin as “cartoonish”, “inept”, “shallow”, “intolerable”, to name a few, and using Levi Johnston, who was probably paid a “handsome” sum in his “eyes”.

I have to give Patti Davis, an admitted liberal, an extreme amount of credit to speak out about the treatment of her family, the sheer “cruelness” and the lies perpetrated upon the public. “The Reagan’s”, produced by CBS, aired on cable one year before the 2004 election. Here’s my prediction: in the near future, either CBS, NBC, or ABC airing a similar “The Palin’s”, based on Levi Johnston’s claims.
