I so agree. It seems that no one is talking about the real grief process this family has had to go through. John Edwards had to have been going through a great deal. It doesn’t excuse adultery. It does, however, provide some clarity as to the reasons why a brilliant, capable, and fabulously successful man would choose to risk everything by engaging in such risky and potentially damaging behavior. Rielle likes to believe that the Edwards’ marriage was “over” 25 years ago. That’s an awfully long time to live in a loveless marriage. My guess is it’s a rationalization provided to her by Edwards and easily accepted by her because it was convenient and aligned with what she wanted.

Ms. Edwards’ grief as she progresses through the stages of terminal illness, her grief at having lost the love and esteem of her husband to the charms of a younger woman, her frustration at feeling as though she had to play the role of the faithful wife while the mistress wandered about the offices, etc, one can hardly blame her for lashing out. At least I don’t.

The true victims in this whole thing are: Mrs. Edwards and all the children of John Edwards. Imagine having to grow up knowing such a family scandal? It’s awful.

We thought we knew him and we didn’t. We thought we knew her and I’m sure we don’t. Honestly, what did we think her voice would be if we heard it candidly? Would it be parsed and careful, full pf platitudes and resolution? Or would she be pissed at Rielle and, oddly, the man who volunteered to take the fall for her husband, wrath at whom was barely disguised in “Resilience” (Young)? No. If you created a masked online presence for EE, she’d be a spitting mad, anonymous commenter, badly faking biographical details and lashing out at JE, RH, Young, the Clintons, new cabinet appointees, and endlessly sticking up for the platforms which by now all others recognize as seriously lost to her: Health care and immigration. She’d have a vast array of links and campaign points at her fingertips, and she’d cite readily personal stats about JE. She’d be, you know, Cherubim. Wronged wife, suddenly unemployed pol, supporter of herself, rhetoric-spewer, pop music–and MJ–fan, wanderer of the net at night and in the morning.

She’s got to feel terrible now, as any of us would if we were outed as commenters. Whoops, that was me saying the waiters at my favorite restaurant are jerks. Guilty.

She’s entitled to her opinions and her reactions, but he should feel truly crappy for this all, too. This, in case he hasn’t noticed, hurts people.

cherbium is also on our old blog (which is great need of updating, apologies all around…google the john edwards movement continues). i’ve not bothered with it lately cuz we couldn’t keep the trolls off. cherbium’s last post was actually about michael jackson. lotsa people actually knew the edwards personally and blog about them.

i’ve dealt with so many trolls tho, glen beck is the worst with his teabag trolling, i swear it’s him…sometimes he’ll use two usernames and talk to himself posting back and forth…

it is standard practice now to hire bloggers on your behalf, whether it’s for political purposes or just pr. u don’t ever know really who’s who.

Leave Elizabeth Edwards alone, she and her children have suffered enough. If you want to vilify someone, start with John Edwards and his hootchie mama. Rielle knew he was married and she paraded around Mrs. Edwards and their children, pretending she was nothing more than the hired help, all the while she was sleeping with John. What kind of person would do that when Mrs. Edwards is so ill? And as for John Edwards, he is no better. I thought that he was a decent man who would do good things for the poor in this counrty. Guess, sex with his kept woman, was more important to him than staying with the issues and being faithful to his wife and family. He has turned out to be the biggest fool of all, he gave it all up for a roll in the hay with anybodies girl.

If Elizabeth Edwards is Cherubim, someone must step in and get her some mental help now. She is unraveling and may do something desperate. I have a lot of compassion for what she’s been through, but enough is enough. She needs help.
