John Edwards’ Rielle Hunter Baby Daddy? Anticlimax, DNA, and When Politicians Fail to Keep Their Pants On

According to the National Review and Fox News, who are citing the National Enquirer as their source, ex-Senator John Edwards is going to admit Rielle Hunter’s love child is his after taking a secret DNA test.

This story is a bit anti-climatic for DBKP. When the Enquirer first reported, and we followed up, that Edwards was cheating on his wife and then reported that Edwards had “hidden” his pregnant mistress Rielle Hunter, a hop, skip, and jump from his Presidential campaign headquarters in Chapel Hill, NC, we got a lot of flack.

The story got a pass from the MSM. We were painted as gossipmongers and tabloid trash yet it was Edwards, who, while campaigning on a platform of family values, lied to voters, and apparently to a spouse with terminal cancer while accumulating millions in his campaign coffers. It wasn’t until Edwards got caught sneaking out of his mistresses’ hotel room in Hollywood-caught by a squad of Enquirer reporters-that the press finally took note. Edwards did a crybaby confessional on ABC with wife Elizabeth figuratively standing by his side.

The story Edwards gave was that the “short” affair was over in 2006. We provided proof that Hunter was still in the picture, shooting pictures, at Edwards’ last campaign stop on December 30 in Chapel Hill. In the photo: Hunter, Elizabeth, and Edwards’ family. As we’ve maintained all along, Edwards was running for President. While some argued that the affair was private, and therefore, none of the public’s business, we disagreed. The man was a politician running for President on a platform of family values. We would have had the same view and same response if Edwards had been a Republican.

The moral of the story: There were no morals. Edwards didn’t have any while the MSM looked the other way until Edwards got caught sneaking out of Hunter’s hotel room, well after he’d bowed out of the race but was still considered as a potential nominee as Obama’s Attorney General.

There’s no doubt that if Edwards had been a Republican candidate running for President this story would have had a far different ending. The Enquirer’s story of Edwards’ affair would have been picked up by the MSM then shouted from laptops with gusto and unbridled glee. Edwards, if he’d been a Republican, would have been labeled a hypocritical cad and cheat, unfit to run for President while Fred Baron’s involvement in the affair would have been uncovered. It took the Enquirer and a Federal Grand Jury in North Carolina, over a year later, to finally ferret out the truth.
