Obama’s Counterterrorism Adviser John O’Brennan Sends Out Strangely Informal H1N1 Swine Flu Email Alert

Today I received an email which, given its source, seemed strangely informal. The email was from Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser, John O’ Brennan, and “The White House”, who were “passing on a message” regarding swine flu from Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security, and Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education.
The message concerned “efforts to prepare for the coming flu season” and the “outbreak of a of a troubling flu virus called 2009-H1N1″.
Here’s the email in its entirety:

As the President’s advisor on Homeland Security, I am passing along the following message from Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Homeland Security, and Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education, who are leading the efforts to prepare our Nation for the coming flu season.
Fellow Americans,
This spring we were confronted with an outbreak of a troubling flu virus called 2009-H1N1. As the fall flu season approaches, it is critical that we reinvigorate our preparedness efforts across the country in order to mitigate the effects of this virus on our communities.
Today, we are holding an H1N1 Influenza Preparedness Summit in conjunction with the White House to discuss our Nation’s preparedness. We are working together to monitor the spread of 2009-H1N1 and to prepare to initiate a voluntary fall vaccination program against the 2009-H1N1 flu virus, assuming we have a safe vaccine and do not see changes in the virus that would render the vaccine ineffective.
But the most critical steps to mitigating the effects of 2009-H1N1 won’t take place in Washington — they will take place in your homes, schools and community businesses.
Taking precautions for this fall’s flu season is a responsibility we all share. Visit Flu.gov to make sure you are ready and learn how you can help promote public awareness.
We are making every effort to have a safe and effective vaccine available for distribution as soon as possible, but our current estimate is that it won’t be ready before mid-October. This makes individual prevention even more critical. Wash your hands regularly. Take the necessary precautions to stay healthy and if you do get sick, stay home from work or school.
We are doing everything possible to prepare for the fall flu season and encourage all Americans to do the same — this is a shared responsibility and now is the time to prepare. Please visit Flu.gov to learn what steps you can take to prepare and do your part to mitigate the effects of H1N1.

While the information “passed on” by O’Brennan is important we can’t help but wonder why Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser was assigned this task and how the outbreak of swine flu is related to terrorism. It was also the manner in which the message was sent and the way it was signed that was both slightly strange and rather amusing. I had no idea I was on first name basis with the Secretary of Health and Human Resources, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the Secretary of Education, or “Kathleen, Janet, and Arne”. I’ve never met these three people, talked to them on the phone, nor exchanged emails yet here they were in my inbox by way of O’Brennan and the White House (Obama) passing along their “message” then signing off using their first names.
It’s rather too cute by half, Obama’s government official’s ‘informality’. Next thing you know we’ll be getting “Cheers” from “Timmy”-Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner-when informed we owe penalties on not having government mandated health insurance coverage.

Mr. Brennan, I donated my money to Obama, I thought he would be a better president than McCain. I now believe he is the most incompetant manager I have ever seen. He is worse than JImmy Carter and that is saying a lot. Your speech today about terrorist and terrorism make me want to puke. They are murdering Terrorist, all the Islamic Muslims. When I travel by air and see someone that looks to be Arabic I stair at them all the time. Like it or not like this is what I do and will continue to do. I see you trying to get Mohammed Obama’s termanalogy throughts to be a sticking way for us to talk. The Jihad are murders, I do not like them and I am scared of them. I am scared of this president we have, also. He is not truthful about anything. He has not accomplished one single thing since being in the Oval Office. He, Pelosi, and Reid are crooks, dishonest people. He said he would have transparency ~~ another lye. His take on the Illegals coming in is sickin the way he and Bush have handled it. I want a presidnet with guts not an anit-milatary stooge traveling the world tell everyone how bad and how wrong we are and apologizing for everything. I am a veteran and I did not fight for this kind of socialist president. I spent a lot of money getting this dude in and I will spend a lot of money getting this dude out. I have respect for the Oval office of the president but I do not like the way our president is working – - better said, NOT Working.
