Obama Health Care Plan: IRS to Enforce Healthcare Coverage Mandate

Here’s the latest in twisted rhetoric to emerge from the House Dems and Obama regarding their upcoming legislation on healthcare reform: that all Americans “have the right to healthcare coverage!”

Before you cheer, here’s the caveat: the Dems’ bill would give the government the “right” to require every American to have healthcare coverage, or mandated coverage, with a stiff penalty and/or garnishment of wages from the IRS if you fail to comply.

From the New York Times:

“The legislation calls for a 5.4% tax increase on individuals making more than $1 million a year, with a gradual tax beginning at $280,000 for individuals. Employers who don’t provide coverage would be hit with a penalty equal to 8% of workers’ wages with an exemption for small businesses. Individuals who decline an offer of affordable coverage would pay 2.5% of their incomes as a penalty, up to the average cost of a health insurance plan.”

Americans would have to prove they have healthcare coverage to the IRS, a government entity that has the power penalize with stiff fines and garnish wages.

The upshot on your new “right”:

-you’ll be mandated to acquire and pay for healthcare coverage,

-you’ll be required to file proof of healthcare coverage on your federal income tax forms,

-failure to provide proof of insurance will result in penalties or possible garnishment of wages.

Still think this plan is “fair”?

According to the new bill, Americans will be forced to acquire healthcare coverage before the very real serious problem of sky-high healthcare coverage costs have been fixed. The bill would implement a new federal government run healthcare insurance plan in case you can’t “afford” private insurers. A new federal government healthcare coverage plan that it still on the drawing board and yet to be implemented. Americans will be forced into buying a prototype that hasn’t been tested from a company with less than stellar service, shoddy workmanship, and over-inflated prices with no “money-back” guarantee, or penalized by IRS enforcers if they “turn down” the product.
