UPDATES at end of story
* Action heats up in the Sarah Jessica Parker surrogate mother story. The surrogate mother’s former residence was burglarized in mid-May. The burglary was allegedly carried out by two local police chiefs looking for items to sell to a supermarket tabloid for cash.
* Bridgeport (OH) Police Chief Chad Dojack and Martins Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter under investigation for allegedly burglarizing the home of the surrogate mother who is carrying Sarah Jessica Parker’s twins. The surrogate mother resided in Martins Ferry OH; it was allegedly burglarized by the two policemen sometime in Mid-May.
* Witnesses reported “a bunch of police cars that weren’t from the Bridgeport PD” outside the Bridgeport Police Department on Thursday.
The investigators are believed to be from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI). One source said he believed that the BCI was executing a search warrant in connection with the investigation.
* Holes have appeared in Martins Ferry (OH) Police Chief Barry Carpenter’s telling of the incident.
Carpenter stated to WWVA Wheeling (WV) radio host David Blomquist in a phone conversation that “he had met with a reporter from the National Enquirer”. Reports speculated that the Enquirer reporter subsequently turned Carpenter in to the Ohio BCI.
David Perel, formerly Editor in Chief of The National Enquirer, in a phone interview on Wednesday, told DBKP that the Enquirer didn’t have a reporter on the story in eastern Ohio. Perel wasn’t sure of the Enquirer’s plans for future coverage of the story. “We may just pick up photos from syndication.”
Investigators, at least some believed to be from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI), descended upon the Bridgeport (OH) Police Department today. One source said he believed that the BCI was executing a search warrant.
According to local reports, the two law enforcement officers were searching for “pictures, phone messages, all those things” at the surrogate mother’s residence, in hopes of landing a supermarket tabloid payday.
* The story was originally broken this week by David Blomquist–host of the “Bloomdaddy Experience” on AM radio station 1170 WWVA in Wheeling, WV.
Blomquist talked to Carpenter and reported Wednesday that the police chief said that “he (Carpenter) had met with a ‘reporter from the National Enquirer’”. It was also reported that Carpenter had said that he was “fooling around with the reporter–after all, it’s the National Enquirer. They have aliens on the cover.”

I have the lowdown on the investigation into Chief Barry Carpenter]
This report raised one Texas-sized red-flag.
IT’S ONLY THE ENQUIRER
Anyone who raises the “it’s only the Enquirer” defense usually turns out to be guilty as hell. (Aliens on the cover is optional and a matter of taste). It’s the equivalent of throwing yourself on the mercy of the court of public opinion.
It’s also about as effective as making a cross with your fingers to ward off a vampire. (See “Lost Boys”.)
One caveat: most of the people using this non-defense are those caught by the Enquirer engaging in nefarious behavior. (See “John Edwards Love Child Scandal“.)
NATIONAL ENQUIRER SAYS “ABSOLUTELY NO REPORTERS HAVE BEEN IN THAT AREA ON STORY”
DBKP talked with David Perel yesterday. Until recently the Editor in Chief of the National Enquirer (Perel took over RadarOnline.com in March 2009, but is still operating from the same offices at American Media, which owns both the Enquirer and RadarOnline.)
We asked about Carpenter’s allegations that he spoke with a “reporter from the National Enquirer”.
Perel said that the Enquirer didn’t have anyone there on the story.
What did Perel think about Carpenter telling a local radio station that he was negotiating with a “reporter from the National Enquirer”?
Perel laughed and answered: “Bulls**t”.
When asked if he could be quoted, Perel replied, “Sure!”
When it was suggested that perhaps someone had represented themselves to Carpenter as being an Enquirer reporter, he offered that, “That happens.” Perel then wondered if Carpenter could “supply the name of the reporter”?
Perel called back later on Wednesday and confirmed “no reporter from the Enquirer” was or had been operating in Bridgeport, OH or that area.
WWVA AM 1170 reported that Carpenter learned of the phantom Enquirer reporter from Dojack’s father-in-law, who owns the Hillside Motel in Bridgeport, where the reporter is alleged to have stayed.
ODDS ‘N ENDS
The surrogate mother is no longer staying at the Martins Ferry residence.
According to reports, she still plans to have the babies delivered at a local eastern Ohio hospital.
Agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation have been investigating, and a special prosecutor, T. Shawn Hervey of Harrison County, has been appointed.
Carpenter has maintained his innocence and says the charges are “untrue”.
But Carpenter was reported to have said that he met with a reporter from the National Enquirer.
A reporter the Enquirer says doesn’t exist.
NOTE:
Check back for UPDATES.
DBKP will be following this story daily.
UPDATE #1: 2108 6-18-09
MOTHER’S NAME RELEASED
The surrogate mother has been identified as Michelle Ross of Martins Ferry OH.
I know, I know…not much of an update.
I forgot to include it in the original report.
UPDATE #2 – 2132 6-18-09
According to Diva Asia, Sarah Jessica Parker’s surrogate mother is a bisexual rocker.
Michelle Ross, the surrogate mother, openly declared on her myspace page about her bisexuality, tattoos and love for fetish footwear.
Ross is also reported to have a thing for dominatrix gear.
If it’s determined that Carpenter and Dojack did burglarize Ross’ home, maybe it was a good thing for them that she wasn’t at home.

I’m happy for them too. It must be a wonderful feeling to finally have the babies with them.
What I’m still astound about is, that they were successfull hiding the name of the surrogate mother for so long. With all the media trying to hunt them down.
