Democrats Duped by Fake Iraq War Veteran: The MSM’s Role and Joe the Plumber

Remember Joe the Plumber, the Toledo Ohio man whom then running for President Barack Obama told of his plan to “spread the wealth” back in October of ‘08? In case you happened to be on another planet, Joe asked Obama about his new tax plan and how it would cost Joe more “taxes”. Obama responded with his “spread the wealth” plan:

“It’s not that I want to punish your success,” Obama told him. “I want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance for success, too.

Then, Obama explained his trickle-up theory of economics.

“My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody. I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

Joe became an instant success with conservatives but the darker side of politics emerged with the news that Joe’s private info was illegally searched by Ohio state government workers while the media treated Joe as National Enquirer fodder. While Joe’s personal info was publicly aired for public consumption there was yet another side to this story, a side that didn’t come to light until recently, of the “injured Iraq War vet” who was against the Iraq War and whom the Dem’s touted and feted during various election rallies, including Barack Obama, where the “vet” spoke on the steps of the Capital building last July at a Barack Obama veteran’s rally.

While Joe’s garbage was searched for incriminating evidence that Joe’s character was less than sterling, Rick Strandlof, executive director of the Colorado Veterans Alliance, an “ex-marine and Iraq War vet” was co-hosting several Democrat events as well as starring in a commercial attacking Colorado Republican Senate candidate Bob Schaffer in a tv ad paid for by the group, Votevets.org.

It’s come to light that Strandlof, the ex-Marine, ex-Iraq War vet who claimed he was brain damaged by a roadside bomb while serving in Iraq and was now against the war was actually a guy named Rick Duncan who had never served in the military. He hadn’t spent time in the military but he did spend time in a mental institution. Dems believed Strandlof’s “erratic behavior” stemmed from his Iraq War injuries. Apparently Dems are now appalled that they were duped. Yet they weren’t appalled at how Joe the Plumber’s life and private info became fodder for the MSM intent on destroying his credibility. Which begs the question: why did the MSM go after Joe, who by the way, was a real plumber from Ohio, but took bogus Rick Strandlof at face value? Perhaps they were too busy digging through Sarah Palin’s garbage trying to ascertain whether baby Trigg was really her daughter Bristol’s child. Or getting the “low-down” over Bristol’s pregnancy which was announced right after the Republican convention when McCain chose Palin was his running mate.

Palin and Joe became lighting rods during the election for Democrats seeking to destroy the two conservative’s characters. The Dem’s were enabled by the MSM. Meanwhile, the fabulously fake fraud Strandlof was treated with kid gloves even while his behavior and lies were accepted at face value. Here’s how the MSM is reporting the Strandlof story, it isn’t the MSM who is red faced but the Democrats. Yet it was the MSM who took it upon themselves to dig into Joe’s life and publish their findings while ignoring the fake Strandlof. Which doesn’t seem to be “fair” journalism or unbiased reporting. Yet it would be rather naive to believe that the MSM would blow the whistle on themselves. After all, evidence shows the MSM has rarely if ever blown the whistle on themselves, owning up to unrestrained bias in their zeal to tout Obama during the election. It the MSM who chose to ignore Obama’s relationship with William Ayers, the unrepentant former Weather Underground terrorist who admitted to planting bombs at the Capital, the Pentagon and the New York City Police Headquarters. The same Bill Ayers whom Obama sat on a board in Chicago dispersing a $100 million in funds and who held in his living room the first political fundraising party for Obama when he ran for Illinois State Senate. These types of facts were deemed inconsequential to readers. Which makes one wonder, just who else did the MSM choose to ignore during the election or deemed inconsequential and not worth investigating?

The irony is that if the MSM had used the same rules it used with Joe the Plumber as Strandlof, the fake Iraq War Vet, then the Dems would have learned a lot sooner that the man they “trusted” enough to use time and again as a spokesperson was a fraud.

Halfway through the post, you started saying “Schaffer” (the GOP candidate) when you meant to say “Strandlof” (the fake vet). Makes for a very confusing post. Otherwise, a great point. Thanks!
