Inayat Bunglawala, British Muslim Advisor to Government on Terrorism Arrested For Attack
Inayat Bunglawala, an adviser to the British government on terrorism after the 7-7-2005 attacks, was arrested today in Britain. Bunglawala, 39, was charged with allegedly stabbing another man in his home in an altercation on December 13 of last year.
From The Daily Mail:
A prominent member of the Muslim Council of Britain, the British government appointed Bunglawala and seven other Muslims to a Home Office Task Force which dealt with radical Muslims in Britain after the series of terrorist attacks on the railway station and a bus.
In 2005, following his appointment to the Home Office, it was revealed that Mr Bunglawala had previously accused the BBC’s management of ‘Zionism’ due to the presence in the Corporation of several prominent Jews, including Michael Grade and Alan Yentob.
Five months before the 9/11 attacks, Mr Bunglawala circulated writings of Osama Bin Laden, whom he regarded as a ‘freedom fighter’, to hundreds of Muslims in Britain.
When this came to light in 2005, Mr Bunglawala said he did not hold those views any longer.
Last night, Mr Bunglawala refused to discuss the alleged stabbing as it was a ‘police matter’.
Bunglawala was also featured at the British newspaper, The Guardian, and their website, where he was listed as “an Advisor on Policy and Research at ENGAGE, an initiative designed to encourage British Muslims to interact more effectively in politics and the media in the UK”.
Stephen Pollard, of Britain’s “The Spectator” has quite an interesting read, “The real Inayat Bunglawala”.
Here’s a small snippet:
As Oliver notes:
“Inayat” is Inayat Bunglawala of the Muslim Council of Britain, a sinecurist whose talents were neatly encapsulated by Christopher Hitchens in Vanity Fair a few months ago: “A preposterous and sinister individual named Inayat Bunglawala, assistant secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain and a man with a public record of support for Osama bin Laden, was made a convener of Blair’s task force on extremism despite his stated belief that the BBC and the rest of the media are ‘Zionist controlled.’”
According to the Daily Mail, Bunglawala, who calls himself a “moderate” Muslim, filed a protest against the BBC after its website referred to cleric Abu Qatada as an ‘extremist’.
Many in the Islamic community have been concerned at his behaviour. Mr Bunglawala – the MCB assistant general secretary and Press spokesman – lodged a complaint with the BBC after its website described firebrand cleric Abu Qatada as an ‘extremist’.
Dubbed Al Qaeda’s ‘Ambassador in Europe’, Abu Qatada gave religious authority to extremist groups in the UK and abroad, including the men behind the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre.
Last night, a BBC News source said: ‘We were right to call Abu Qatada an extremist and we would be happy to do so again.
