I’m not one to jump on bandwagons and I don’t usually send this kind of stuff but for some reason, this, sending just one tea bag to Washington, D.C., seems like a good idea.
I’m just so frustrated that there seems to be nothing we can do to influence this nations “leaders”, to let them know we’re sick and tired of the crap they’ve been forcing on us for so long. Voting doesn’t seem to work. People kept re-electing the same traitorous, arrogant bastards back to Congress for so long the politicians think they deserve to be elected for life. “Entitled” as it were and writing to them only results in the usual form letter (IF you get any reply at all that is) thanking us for our concern and that they will look into it and surely take our thoughts into consideration. The original letter you sent which was probably never even read by the addressee, then went directly into the shredder or the deleted folder never to be seen or thought of again. If our representatives don’t even read the legislation they sign on to, what makes you think your letter is going to be?
Okay, at first, this sounds like just another wacky internet idea and you may even think it’s a waste of time but considering the symbolism of tea, for some reason, it hit home to me. Guess it might have been the actions of the first Americans sending a message to “King and Country” that we were NOT going to take this crap anymore. Since we are faced with basically the same situation today, isn’t it just possible that if enough of us did this it might open some eyes? The original Tea Party participants dumped 90,000 lbs. of tea into Boston Harbor in 1773. If 45 tons of tea were to land in the White House mail room, I think someone would notice.

I would, after giving it some more thought, take it to yet another level, sending a bag to each of the “representatives” of our respective districts. Congressmen, Senators, and even any of the local hacks that seem to have forgotten that WE pay their wages.
Just a little food for thought…………….
* 800 billion “stimulus” package.
* 410 billion budget proposal.
* Tax “rebate” checks to people who don’t even pay taxes.
* Increased taxation on anyone making over $250,000.
* Increased taxation on producers….. that hire people………
that pay taxes……..to pay the unproductive.
* Government financed embryonic stem cell research.
* Government financed abortion, not for U.S. citizens but for foreign entities.
* A “Global New Deal” as suggested by British P.M. Brown which would
force us as taxpayers to pay for foreign deadbeats mortgages and
debt in addition to our own homegrown parasites.
* Cabinet members that have a problem remembering to pay their own taxes.
* A president, vice president, Attorney General, and presidential chief of staff
that are vehement opponents of your right to self defense and are on record as
being in favor of more restrictive gun control/registration which are precursors
to all out confiscation.
* Taxpayer funded attacks on private citizens ie: “Joe the Plumber” and Rush
Limbaugh.
* A domestic civilian national security force “that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as
“well funded” as our military.
* Negotiating with “people” whose stated goal is to kill you if you don’t believe
in the same god as they do.
* MORE Illegal immigration (read, “open borders”) and a push for amnesty for those already here.
* Funding cuts for the military.
* Legislation by fiat (executive order).
* Stock market going down faster than the Titanic.
* Rising unemployment.
And we’re only in the first 50 days of this “administration”.
Is this the “change” you were expecting?
Yeah, I’m sick and tired of this crap and I do intend to sign on to this protest if for no other reason (taking a page from the liberals’ thought book) it will make me “feel better”. (shudder) Give it some thought and if you agree, give up a couple of bucks for teabags and stamps. Who knows? Maybe this is the one that will make them notice that……….

There’s a storm abrewin’……. What happens when good, responsible people keep quiet? Washington has forgotten they work for us. We don’t work for them. Throwing good money after bad is NOT the answer. I am sick of the midnight, closed door sessions to come up with a plan. I am sick of Congress raking CEO’s over the coals while they, themselves, have defaulted on their taxes. I am sick of the bailed out companies having lavish vacations and retreats on my dollar. I am sick of being told it is MY responsibility to rescue people that, knowingly, bought more house than they could afford. I am sick of being made to feel it is my patriotic duty to pay MORE taxes. I, like all of you, am a responsible citizen. I pay my taxes. I live on a budget and I don’t ask someone else to carry the burden for poor decisions I may make. I have emailed my congressmen and senators asking them to NOT vote for the stimulus package as it was written without reading it first. No one listened. They voted for it, pork and all.
O.K. folks, here it is. You may think you are just one voice and what you think won’t make a difference. Well, yes it will and YES, WE CAN!! If you are disgusted and angry with the way Washington is handling our taxes. If you are fearful of the fallout from the wreckless spending of BILLIONS to bailout and “stimulate” without accountability and responsibility then we need to become ONE, LOUD VOICE THAT CAN BE HEARD FROM EVERY CITY, TOWN, SUBURB AND HOME IN AMERICA. There is a growing protest to demand that Congress, the President and his cabinet LISTEN to us, the American Citizens. What is being done in Washington is NOT the way to handle the economic free fall.
So, here’s the plan. On April 1, 2009, all Americans are asked to send a TEABAG to Washinton , D.C. You do not have to enclose a note or any other information unless you so desire. Just a TEABAG. Many cities are organizing protests. If you simply search, “New American Tea Party”, several sites will come up. If you aren’t the ‘protester’ type, simply make your one voice heard with a TEABAG. Your one voice will become a roar when joined with millions of others that feel the same way. Yes, something needs to be done but the lack of confidence as shown by the steady decline in the stock market speaks volumes.
This was not my idea. I visited the sites of the ‘New American Tea Party’ and an online survey showed over 90% of thousands said they would send the teabag on April 1. Why, April 1?? We want them to reach Washington by April 15. Will you do it? I will. Send it to;
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington , D.C. 20500 .Forward this to everyone in your address book. Visit the website below for more information about the ‘New American Tea Party’. I would encourage everyone to go ahead and get the envelope ready to mail, then just drop it in the mail April 1. Can’t guarantee what the postage will be by then, it is going up as we speak, but have your envelope ready. What will this cost you? A little time and a 40 something cent stamp.
What could you receive in benefits? Maybe, just maybe, our elected officials will start to listen to the people. Take out the Pork. Tell us how the money is being spent. We want TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. Remember, the money will be spent over the next 4-5 years. It is not too late.

Mailing to the White House goes through the mail room. Because there is something in the package, it goes thru secret service. They will decide whether it is forwarded or not. If it is not forwarded, there is no record of its receipt ever forwarded to el Jefe. (Anthrax holdover)
Calling the White House Switchboard (202-456-1414):
- The only way to get something to the president is to send it as a gift via the “Gift Office.”
- However, the “Gift Office” hasn’t been established yet, and there is no set time line to establish it.
- She can’t give out the screening rules, so there is no way to prepare a package that will definately be delivered.
Possible options:
- Fax pictures of tea bags to all (FAX: 202-456-2461)
- Physically deliver tea bags to congressional offices (you can’t drop them off at the white house)

After perusing your comment I’m not surprised that you ‘don’t get it” and I imagine you were tired after moving all those goalposts, listing “Bush, God, Freedom, Democracy, and… teabagging.
In case you missed it, the tea bag protest was a protest against Washington’s policy of handing over a multi-trillion dollar stimulus bill to tax payers. Washington means the President as well as Congress.
People who pay taxes have the right to voice their protest. This protest was far different than blowing up buildings or marching in the streets. A symbolic protest whose meaning was apparently lost on an intelligent guy like yourself.

Yup, that’s it….i just don’t get it.
I don’t get why you didn’t mail your ‘teabag’ to Washington when they put throught the FIRST stimulus package, which was not only voted on my the republicans OVERWHELMINGLY, but also had no plan set in place to make sure the money wasn’t just spent or disappeared.
Nor did you ‘teabag’ when your president completely ignored the constitution by taking away your rights or privacy as citizens, with the Patriot Act…probably the single biggest mistake amongst his huge list of complaints.
Nor did you ‘teabag’ when your cocky cowboy lied to get us in a war that he had no idea how to handle.
Nor did you ‘protest with teabags’ when your lovable Texan and his puppet-master VP spend TRILLIONS of dollars on a war that has put the US into the biggest BUDGET DEFICIT in the history of this country.
Nor did you ‘mail some teabags’ when you found that MILLIONS of dollars and even BILLIONS of dollars has either been ‘lost’, or given to war mongering profiteers like Haliburton…who, btw…..claim to be located ‘outside’ of these United States, thus, exempting them from paying taxes…..oh, how American.
Nor…(yes, another nor) did you decide to ‘teabag’ the White House when it decided to not only ignore ALL peace agreements, and ALL signs of being a humane country and completey ignored the rules set in place by the Geneva Convention about sending people to secret prisons and torturing (and yes, they just admitted they had secret prisons this last week….oh, another lie revealed…how suprising).
But what you will do i ‘protest’ a president that has taken on what 8 years of a god appointed (his words) moron did too this country and tries to fix it. Dear God…for once, try not following your party and try following logic. Obama has created the biggest tax cut in the history of this country….in only 55 days……he’s brought back world respect to a country that even the CANADIANS thought were a bunch of idiots.

Once again you’ve managed to move quite a few goal posts as as well still not “get it”.
You assume that people who are protesting this issue are hypocritical Bush supporters protesting the 5.3 trillion dollar Obama stimulus plan. You’ve also issued arbitrary rules regarding protests i.e, since someone didn’t send in teabags when the Patriot Bill passed they don’t have the “right” to protest Obama’s and the Congress’ Stimulus bill.
You might bolster a better argument if you were educate yourself on the original Boston Tea Party, such as why it took occurred, as well as the symbolism of the tea bag protests that are being held today.

actually, if you had read what I wrote, you will see that I think the fact that you’re protesting is great….albeit it may be a little misguided, it’s wonderful. Protest away. Teabag (sic) the White House. Once again you’ve managed to avoid answering ANY of the questions posed to you and instead concentrate on the one thing that isn’t even being questioned.

Here’s the “motive” behind the protest:
“Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says that President Obama’s budget and deficit projections are too low. The president’s budget will incur $9.3 trillion in federal deficits between 2010 and 2019 –$2.3 trillion higher than Obama had originally claimed.
The CBO’s latest analysis, released Friday, showed that the president’s proposed budget will increase the deficit to $1.8 trillion in 2009; $1.4 trillion in 2010; and $970 billion in 2011 — falling to $658 billion in 2012 before rising again to $1.2 trillion in 2019.
The total deficit from 2010 to 2019 was pegged at $9.3 trillion. The deficit is nort expected to fall below a floor of $500 billion for the foreseeable future, the report pointed out.
In fact, the budget office found that Obama’s projected deficits are more than double what they would be if the president had merely stuck with the current spending and taxation proposals left by the Bush administration.
Under current spending proposals, including the $787 billion stimulus spending and $410 billion omnibus spending bills, the deficit would total $4.4 trillion over 10 years, not the $9.3 trillion Obama’s budget incurs.
Obama’s record deficits mean a record national debt – one that totals $17 trillion, up from the current $6.7 trillion.
By 2019, the CBO said, a whopping 82 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) will go to pay down the national debt. This means that in future years, the government could owe its creditors more than the goods and services that the entire economy can produce.”

Actually, you went and found a credible news organization…good job.
Did you actually READ the article though…lol……he SUPPORTS the stimulus, he only says that the changes made are for some projects that are going to be too slow in creating quick jobs for Americans. He’s not against it, because he understands (as a journalist, an economist and a free thinker) how a stimulus is needed at a time like this…he only thinks it should have been applied differently.
That’s called an opinion about HOW something is done, not getting all bothered at WHAT was done…and not offering any other solutions (ie: teabaggin’)
Heck, I even agree with him…I think a lot more of the money should be spent on things that can happen NOW…..screw getting healthcare paperwork system up to the 21st Century….lets overhaul it altogether……and just put the damn Universal Healthcare in place. (and before you go off on why Universal Healthcare doesn’t work, blah blah….remember that our US MILITARY has and has always been on their own Universal Healthcare system……in case you need something to ‘prove’ it works).
This journalist actually would advocate for MORE stimulus if you’ve ever read the writings of Robert Samuelson….he’s a journalist that finds FACTS and says his mind. He’s never been a believer in Obama since the beginning…..but his writings are articulate, thought out and based on fact, not right wing fiction. In fact, he doesn’t even VOTE because he feels as a journalists he should remain impartial.

I disagree. I think it will make a huge statement. I know that Obama will not personally get my tea bag on his desk but I don’t care. That was not my intention. You don’t think hundreds of thousands of pieces of mail above normal amount will make news… cluttering the already strained postal service? I do. This WILL make a statement. Americans (the ones that are not eating at the trough) are mad as hell and we are not going to stand for it any more.
Security will filter the mail- I agree. Don’t send the entire tea bag. Just send the tea bag label. The message is the same & it will flow right trough the automatic sorting machines.
I think you will be AMAZED how many people are doing this. I am personally sending 100 tea bags (already stamped & sealed and ready to go). It cost about $60 & I think it is well worth it. There are other people in my office sending even more than that. I talked to some customers 1,000 miles away & they brought up that their office is doing it too!
It is time to speak up!

It must have made an impact on washington. Rahm Emmanuel held a press conference with ABC, CBS and NBC and others and told them NOT to report on the amount of tea bags arriving at the DC post offices.

It was then that I realized that you are merely a drone in the hive called the Democrat party and take the words of a comedian and use them to form your opinions. That’s funny….cuz I just read today that Glenn Beck is doing a ‘comedy tour’ (his words)…and I’m willng to bet you’re a huge Glenn Beck supporter…of course, that doesn’t count does it?
To refer to John Stewart as just a comedian shows just how out of touch you really are. I’ll bet you dollars to donuts you listen to Limbaugh (a drug addict), O’Reilly (a sex addict) and Hannity (a moron) and consider it HARD HITTING NEWS REPORTING.

Just came out in the news….the Teabag group that ‘created’ this movement….TWO billionaires and FOX news…..say they knew that the conservative right wing would jump at the chance to protest Obama…..despite the fact that he has actually given the MOST tax cuts to 95% of Americans in the History of Presidents. um, yeah, that’s actually a FACT.
Also, oddly, Ron Paul supporters are saying that this event is ‘perverting’ their fundraising campaign on the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party….and have stated over and over….’Calling this something that refers to ‘Boston Tea Party’ is ridiculous, because we weren’t protesting the amount of taxation, we were protesting TAXATION all together.’ Now correct me if i’m wrong, but wanting to stop taxation all together…doesn’t sound very American to me….you?
The funniest thing is that the Ron Paul supporters also end with “and we would never refer to it as teabagging, because anyone with the internet knows what ‘that’ phrase really means’…..=) lmao.
Do any of you actually know WHAT you are trying to protest…I mean seriously? Please explain WHAT Obama has taxed that is affecting you? Of course, if you are one of the people making over a quarter of a million dollars, by all means, I can see how you’re pissed….but I’m thinking there’s a pretty good chance you’re not.
Again, NOT against the protest…hell, you’re supporting LIPTON and the USPS…..i’m sure they’re enjoying the attention….just like the French really profited from the idiotic Don’t Drink French Wine we Americans misguidedly protested….the amount of French wine, bought and then dumped, skyrocketed the sale of French wine in this country…..so again….protest away!
btw……if all you can respond with is ‘i’m this’ and ‘i’m that’ and ‘I don’t understand’….and you still can’t answer ANY of my questions….save your breath…..use your energy licking them envelopes and mailing that tea…..making some point that really does not technically have a point at this time…what better way to spend you days. This shows the difference in tax cut under Obama as opposed to what McCain offered (yes, he too offered tax cuts)…take my difference, 95 dollars more under Obama…sure, that’s only a couple of CD’s and lunch, or maybe a night out…but with every American doing something with their little bits and pieces…that’s what gets the economy going, that’s what keeps the world going round.

HOw is the helping Obama…because in a way he’s giving in to what the Republicans have always ‘claimed’ to want to do, but in the end, they ALWAYS give the tax breaks to the wealthiest Corporations and Individuals…now a chance to put their metal where their mouth is and show they really mean it. but really, that’s not even the point. The point is he’s doing something. The last prez sat on his hands for 8 months and did nothing while the economy spiraled out of control. Obama is doing something….right or wrong, he’s taking a stance, using the best minds available and they’re trying to make a difference.
It’s not about agreeing with him, it’s about supporting a DO SOMETHING president. Is withdrawing in Iraq the best plan? I’m not a military expert, I don’t know…but what I do know is that going in was a mistake because it was based on a lie…and sending in our troops without even proper armour was wrong, and sitting on your hands for 7 years and doing nothing…is not Something. ALL the top military brass has stepped down from there commands because of what the Bush administration was doing…and yet, we kept on. The entire United Nations was willing to help if only Bush woudl stop his rhetoric and listen, but he wasn’t, he didn’t and we were counting nations like Iceland as part of the ‘allience against terrorism’…..and yet, nothing was done.
Unlike conservatives of today…i never wished Bush would fail, I never wanted innnocent Iraqis to die or our troops put in harms way so I coudl say HAHA look what the idiot cowboy did……I prayed every DAY that that man would come to some realization that this world does not work like an old western…..that there are things out there that bigger men, with bigger brains need to decide. I wanted him to succeed, because his success makes for a stronger US and a stronger world….but when you go down a path of wrong-doing, evil and simple stupidity…then cry that others aren’t “patriotic’ for following you….that’s just plain dumb.
To wish Obama bad, to wish him fail, to protest the man that has taken on a country that Bush has driven into the ground over and over and time and time again……that’s just plain evil. God forbid Obama succeeds in this. god forbid obama turns this country around. God forbid all the right wingers who hate him for what he ’stands for’ have to admit that he was a good president……people would rather be right, then have what they want….and that is what this country has become…and that’s why its so frustrating……like I said, i love that people are protesting, whatever they want, thats awesome….but I really do question the motives when the protests are funded by billionaires and made public by a right wing news organizations…and so many people get behind it so ‘heartfelt’……and in the end, they have the same life, the same paycheck and the same day they had two days, two months or two years ago. MY president is trying to fix the mess the last president left for him….and you know what…so is YOURS.

Why argue about facts?
Go to the IRS (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040tt.pdf).
While the withholding tables have changed for 2009, the tax rate tables remain the same.
What does that mean?
It’s means that workers are getting to put an additional $13/week in their pockets–until April 15, 2010. That’s when they will be asked to pony up that money back to the government. While they’re letting you keep $13 more/week for the next year, they still want the same amount of tax bucks for what you earn at the end of that year.
So, they’re just kinda loaning you the money–your money.
This is obviously not a tax cut.
But Obama isn’t the first to pull these shenanigans and call it a tax cut. Bush II also did this, but the tax rate tables were also cut as well. So, most of his tax cut actually was a tax cut.

They just interviewed ‘teabagger’s’ outside the White House….they said they weren’t complaining about what was happening ‘now’…they were complaining about what could happen ‘in the future’…….
I find that funny. With the war, the patriot act, the secret prisons, condoning torture……since when did conservatives become ‘worried about the future’…?
So I get a little more per paycheck, in turn helping to stimulate the economy….and next year I pay taxes on what was given to me (which I expected to pay anyway)…and our economy is stable. Ok, so tell me why that’s bad.
Did you really think we were getting free money? We’re not the corporate system under Bush….we’re still responsible for what we’re given….no handouts for the non-rich, we all know that.
And YES, it’s still called a Tax cut, as taxes are being cut, thus the name. But I see your point…..though I’ve never, once again, said…obama is so awesome cuz i’m getting money…wooohoooo!!!! What i’ve said from the beginning…someone is actually DOING SOMETHING to fix this country….and oddly, the people who didn’t vote for him are all up in arms…when under their cowboy, we were in a free-fall spiral…but somehow that was ok? BTW…..I saw a study they did when they gave conservatives speeches made my McCain and Obama to read, but they switched the names on them….guess what??? The conservatives agreed with the McCain speech (which was really Obama’s) and disagreed with the Obama speech (which was really McCain).
The Freedom we should all be fighting for is the FREEDOM of THOUGHT……it’s not Patriotism…it’s PARTY-TISM……blindly following those who lead.

I imagine you’ve grown weary of “smacking down” the right wing “hypocrisy” yet, I recall, you made reference to “gay marriage”. As an Obama supporter, how you do rectify the fact that Obama has been quite consistent in his statement that while he will support gay unions, he too, is against gay marriage?
You’ve made quite a few assumptions in your previous comments about this site being Bush supporters and about patriotism. As an “intellectual” you do know what happens when people “assume” don’t you?
As for “freedom of thought”, we believe in this right too. Even “freedom of thought” such as yours. Rather than focusing on an issue pertaining to taxes, you threw in Bush torture, the Patriotism Act, and other assorted “acts” of the Bush administration.
I think it’s kind of strange that people like yourself became so incensed over the rather innocuous tea bag protests.

As for Obama with gay marriage…..hey, he’s not perfect after all. =) Our first Gay President will take care of that one.
And I’m not sure why you keep throwing around the ‘intellectual’ word…..never said that, that was you. And yes…..I do ‘assume’ you are Bush supporters who feel you are being Patriotic…..mostly because the entire time I’ve said it no one has denied it…God Forbid I be called a Bush supporter….that’s how most of us feel….at least 56% of us anyway.
Looks like the teabagging made a big splash in the media…that’s cool (seriously, protest in all forms is great, keeps us reminded of the freedoms we do have). Funny you would even do it if it was so ‘innocuous’ in your eyes….?
I think the reason I may seem ‘incensed’ is because it’s not just your ‘ideals’ or your ‘thoughts’ you’re expouting….but then you push those ‘ideals’ on other people in the form of Prop 8, Bush’s lying about WMD’s to get Congress to approve the war, etc…..and that’s when the Right becomes dangerous to everyone else.
It’s the amazing ability of the group/party who loves to refer to themselves as Convervatives, Christian, Family Oriented and (most annoyingly) Strong Moral Values that does things like create a huge deficit, kill thousands of innocent US Troops, kill millions of innocent Iraqis, Lie, cheat, deceit and then deny it all. THAT is what gets ‘people like me’ annoyed…..because even though Obama won, 46% of this country still voted for a war-monger because of issues like abortion (we value life..???), and Christian values (we lied and bombed a country…????)
The hyprocrisy is not annoying, it’s not inconvenient…it’s dangerous and it’s deadly…and innocent people die when others start ’saying what they think’ and then you find out they didn’t even ‘think’ it themselves, somebody like Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Hannity or Chaney TOLD them to think it.
The teabagging itself was not annoying, or the problem…the problem is that’s where it starts…..you keep getting the ignorant, or the followers, or the dont’-ask-questions groups to start being ‘outraged’ over something they know nothing about…..well then you’re playing with fire. You’ve labeled everyone who disagrees with the stimulus plan as “ignorant” or “followers” and as “something” they “don’t know about”. Again, I disagree.
You talk about “sheep” and “blind trust”. You seem to forget that the politicians in Washington are supposed to be representatives of the people, not the other way around. People have the right to question how their tax dollars will be spent. They also have the right to question how much tax they should be held liable for and how big the government should be.
Reagan won his first term because of the support of “lunch box” Democrats who were sick and tired of the massive inflation and “Misery Index”.
You assumed that the protesters are Republicans. Here’s a clue, Independents aren’t happy about the stimulus bill either.
People have a tendency to vote with their pocketbooks.
Here’s hoping that the economy turns around and that America has a bright future where everyone with diverging viewpoints can peacefully coexist.
