Real Housewives of Orange County: Slap Happy Vicki and Jeanna’s Trip to Chicago

It’s the fourth season of Real Housewives of Orange County and this week’s episode featured face lifts, splintered families, underage drinking, a trip to Chicago, a serious lack of respect from a grown child, and a fascination with “slapping” and underage sex.

This week, Tamra’s mom went under the knife for a face lift. I’m not sure why Tamra’s mom felt as if she needed such drastic work done, as she looked quite young for her age. Rather than surgery, Tamra’s mom could have benefited from skin treatments and a makeover. Tamra was seen escorting her mom to the hospital as well as getting all teary-eyed before her mom was wheeled away to have her face surgically altered.

Tamra’s brother and family visited the Barney family. Her brother brought old family photos, so viewers got a look at Tamra at different ages. Tamra also spoke about how she stopped speaking to her father after he divorced her mother and that it had been 15 years since the divorce. Amazingly, Tamra’s father didn’t divorce her mother until Tamra was 25, yet Tamra’s reaction seemed more on par to that of a teenager.

Vicki and Jeanna traveled to Chicago, Vicki’s hometown, where Vicki introduced Jeanna to two of her oldest and “best” friends. Later the girls headed to a bar to party. At the bar, Vicki flirted with her friend’s husband. But before I write what Vicki did when flirting I’d like to include some snippets from an interview Vicki did with MSN TV:

“You know, guys, don’t judge me. Love me. I’m a good person. I love to work hard. Work is not my identity, but it brings a lot of joy to my family. I hope you are gentle with me. I know this year has been a little tough for some of the viewers. I’m not who you always see on TV. Just be gentle with me. I’ll cry if you’re not!”

If only I’d known this about Vicki when I called her a poisonous prickly puffer fish last week. Here’s another snippet:

“Much of the misperception is that I’m not compassionate or I’m not soft-hearted. I cry and I pray every day, and I do all of the things that make me whole. That’s not portrayed out there because maybe I didn’t expose it to the cameras. I am sensitive. I’m probably one of the most misunderstood people on TV. People just don’t understand me yet, and they’re never going to from only getting seven minutes of me a week. That’s the hard part. They don’t show me going to church every week. They don’t show me praying and reading my Bible every night. That’s personal. They don’t show me crying with my kids, saying, “Am I doing a good job as a mother?” and their saying, “Absolutely, Mom.” They don’t show all of that.”

Vicki also said that she “cried” and “prayed” every day. Which begs the question: what does Vicki have to cry about each and every day in sunny Coto? Vicki also wants the public to “love her” and not “judge her”. Speaking of “judging”, here’s what Vicki had to say about “housewives” Lynne and Gretchen, during the same interview:

“I’m not friends with Gretchen and Lynne. I just met them this year. I don’t know them at all. I don’t even have their phone numbers.”

“I’m friends with Jeanna and Tamra, and that’s it. The other two, I have no desire to spend any time with. I only have 24 hours in a day, and I’m going to spend it with people I like.”

“There is a lot that the viewers don’t know about Gretchen. Hopefully, the real truth will come out. But I base people not only on their actions, but on who they are as a person, morally and spiritually. I choose not to socialize with people that I have nothing in common with and people whose integrity I question.”

“Have you shared your feelings about Gretchen with Jeanna?

Jeanna knows. Jeanna plays on both sides of the fence. She struggles with this. There’s a lot that viewers don’t know about Gretchen, and hopefully it will all come out. I’m not going to expose it. Tamra may, and she may not. Jeanna knows how Tamra and I feel.”

“And Lynne, she seems like a great person. But the stuff she said in her interviews on camera, I can’t forgive her for that. Let’s put it that way. There’s no point in forgiving her. She’s mean, callous and not a person I want to be around. That’s it. I’m going to spend time with people who like me. Why spend time with people who don’t like me? I’m too old for that. I’m almost 47 years old.”

“Some of these other women are hurtful. Some of the things they say are just mean. I just don’t understand it, truly.”

“I don’t know anything about Orange County. I deal with my home, my work and people on the show. I’m a Chicago girl who relocated here. All of my dear friends are in Chicago. Jeanna and Tamra are my friends now, but beyond those, I’ve just got a lot of acquaintances.”

According to Vicki, she doesn’t want to “hang” out or be “friends” with Gretchen and Lynne because, “why hang out with people who don’t like me”. Yet Vicki also admitted that since she relocated from Chicago to Orange County 12 years ago, her only friends to date are Jeanna and Tamra. Which leads this writer to assume that there must be a whole lot of people in OC who “don’t like” Vicki.
Go figure.

Vicki also took the opportunity to skewer both Gretchen and Lynne, the newest “housewives”. Vicki intimated that viewers “don’t know” the deep, dark secrets that Vicki, Jeanna, and Tamra know about Gretchen and that Vicki won’t be “friends” with Gretchen any time soon.

The latest episode had Vicki sitting on the lap of friend’s husband in a Chicago bar, stroking his face and telling him that her “boobs wanted to come out and play”.

According to Vicki, integrity must mean talking “trash” about Lynne and Gretchen and alluding to “deep dark secrets” about Gretchen in an interview while claiming to not be judgmental. I used to wonder if the producers had purposely edited out Vicki’s “softer” more “humanitarian” side but I “wonder” no more after this interview. It was unscripted and unedited and revealed Vicki as a “Lashon Hara”, the “evil tongue” of gossip mongers.

Note to Vicki: alluding to someone’s deep dark secrets and calling them immoral is the same as actually revealing the secrets. There’s no fine line Vicki can tap dance around on this one.

Back to the episode:

Jeanna and Vicki then traveled to Jeanna’s son Shane’s minor league baseball game in Geneva, Illinois. Shane plays for the Kane County Cougars.

Twenty two year old Shane made his feelings known to his mother through text messages sent during the drive to the game. It was obvious that Shane didn’t want his mother and Vicki to attend. When Shane used the “f” word in a text, Vicki commented that if she were his mother, she’d slap his face. Or was it later, I can’t seem to recall because I believe she said this twice, once about Shane, and also about Jeanna’s younger son Colton, while at the game.

When Vicki and Jeanna arrived and walked onto the infield, Shane dissed them and then strode back the dugout. Jeanna claimed that Shane’s “pride” was hurt because he wasn’t going to play. Shane did get the opportunity to play while Colton chided Jeanna for ordering an ice cream.

Later at dinner, Kimberly, the “housewife” who relocated to Chicago, joined the party, along with her young son and Shane’s on again, off again, girlfriend from Arizona.

Shane was incredibly disrespectful to his mother which leads me to believe there are some huge “anger” issues at play. Jeanna claimed that his attitude stems from when his father, former big league baseball pitcher, Matt Keough, suffered a severe head injury. That Matt’s treatment of Jeanna rubbed off on Shane and Colton. That the boys, to some extent, now treat their mother the same way their father did.

The dinner also involved a discussion on premarital sex and the Housewife’s kids. Kimberly chastised Vicki for not allowing her children to not have premarital sex, even though the “kids” are now in their twenties. The “kids”, Michael and Brianna, live at home so it is Vicki’s priority to set the “house” rules regarding sex in her home, but evidently this “sex” censorship also extends outside Vicki’s house.

Vicki used the opportunity to mention something about Jeanna’s kids at “16″ were having sex under Jeanna’s roof. Jeanna fired back, “don’t start that ***t with me, I’ll bitchslap you!”

Later at Coto, Lynne had a party and invited Jeanna, Tamra, Simon, and Gretchen. Vicki was waylaid out of town.

During the party, Lynne’s 18-yr-old daughter Raquel was seen drinking cocktails. Raquel “shocked” Jeanna when she said she didn’t have any goals or plans in the immediate future. Raquel does have goals, they just entail living at home on mom and dad’s dime while partying with friends.

Lynne seems to be a genuinely nice person whose daughter has used to her advantage. Lynne readily admits she spoiled her daughter. Lynee also admitted she’s not looking forward to when her two daughters fly the coop. Raquel doesn’t seem to be inspired to “fly” in the near future.

Gretchen hobnobbed with Tamra and Simon at the party so perhaps the “naked wasted” dinner party at Tamra’s house, where Tamra and her son Ryan purposely got Gretchen drunk, is “in the past”.

Whatever “secrets” Gretchen is “hiding” doesn’t change the fact that Gretchen isn’t cut from the same sour cloth as Vicki. Vicki is a narcissist and narcissists view themselves through a different looking glass than mere “mortals”. While she views herself as a kind, non-judgmental Christian, she’s gone out of her way this season to behave in the exact opposite. She’s also alluded to the fact that she’s incapable of making friends because they don’t meet her “standards” but also related that she won’t be friends with people who “don’t like her”.

Silly Vicki, why wouldn’t people like a woman who believes stay-at-home moms are “dumb” and incapable of understanding the “real world”? Or a woman who “shuns” people, such as the time she “shunned” Jeanna and Frankie at Lake Havasu, and Lynne and Gretchen at the Del Mar Race Track?

Since Vicki has laid down her “gauntlet” in regards to Gretchen and Lynne and her rules on “friendship”, I can most assuredly admit that Vicki would most likely not be friends with me because… I don’t like her. I’d even shun her if she’d like, but bitchslapping is out of the question. After all, I have to maintain my integrity.
